Abstract

Motor vehicle smoke pollution contains lead exposure which if accumulated in the blood exceeds the stipulated level, it can cause health problems, both psychological and physical. This study aims to determine the effect of exposure to lead emitted by motor vehicle fumes on students who take part-time jobs as online motorcycle taxi drivers. The influences studied include IQ levels and communication anxiety. Measurement of IQ using the WAIS test (Wechsler Adult Intelligence Scale) while Communication Anxiety was measured using the Communication Anxiety Scale. Blood lead levels were checked using the GFAAS tool. The data on blood lead levels, IQ scores and communication anxiety were then tested for normality using the Kolmogorov Smirnov technique and followed by a linearity test with a test of linearity. Then for hypothesis testing, the data were analyzed using simple regression analysis. The result is that there is a relationship between blood lead levels with IQ levels and communication anxiety.

Abstract

Metal smelting has the potential to release micro-sized metal particles into the air. One of the metal smelting household industries is the gamelan industry. Brass is the basic material for making gamelan with a lead (Pb) content of 0.46%. In the process of making this gamelan, gamelan craftsmen will have a risk of exposure to Pb particles. Absorbed lead will be transported in the organs of the body as much as 95%, in the blood lead will be bound by erythrocytes and will interfere with the formation of hemoglobin. This study aims to see the relationship between Pb levels and the blood profile of metal forging workers in the gamelan industry, Wirun Mojolaban Village, Sukoharjo. This research is a quantitative, observational study with a sample size of 35 gamelan craftsmen in Wirun Village, Mojolaban Sukoharjo. The examination of Pb levels was carried out at BLK Jogja with GFAAS, while the examination of hemoglobin, leukocytes, platelets, hematocrit, and erythrocytes was carried out in the clinical laboratory. The results showed that there was no relationship between Pb levels in the blood and the number of hemoglobin, leukocytes, platelets, hematocrit, and erythrocytes. Although gamelan craftsmen are exposed to lead, they have not shown any symptoms of poisoning and have no blood disorders.

Abstract

Kelurahan Duwet Kec.

Abstract

Lead is widely found in the environment and it is a heavy metal element that has a neurotoxic effect. Unlike other elements, lead does not provide its benefits in the human body. Neurotoxicity describes the neurophysiological changes caused by exposure to toxic agents, which can be manifested by changes in various functions of the nervous system. The aim of this research was to examine the associations between high school students' lead hair levels, intelligence quotient (IQ) scores, propensities for antisocial behavior, and hand grip strength. This research used canonical correlation analysis. Lead levels were detection by flame atomic absorption spectrometry (AAS). Antisocial behavior tendency data was measured using a 21-item antisocial tendency scale using the aspects listed in diagnostic statistical mental disorder (DSM) V which had previously been tested for validity and the reliability. The IQ level was measured using the Wechsler adult intelligence scale (WAIS) test, while the hand muscle strength test was measured using a hand grip dynamometer. Based on the results of the canonical correlation analysis, the research results showed that there was no correlation between lead levels in hair and antisocial behavior tendencies, but there was a relationship between lead levels in hair and IQ levels and hand muscle strength.

Abstract

The textile industry has the potential to release liquid waste and contain heavy metals Cr. The toxicity of the most toxic Cr(VI) ions in liquid waste. The purpose of this study was to determine the quality of groundwater (borehole water) in terms of chemical parameters namely the levels of Cr(VI) ions. The type of research is observational analytic with the subject of 10 locations of groundwater around the textile industry in Village Mojolaban of Sukoharjo. The research data were obtained through questionnaire and testing the levels of Cr(VI) ions using UV-Vis Spectrophotometer The result showed the average of Cr(VI) ion levels obtained from each sample A to J are 1,4980 ppm; 1,6996 ppm; 1,2954 ppm; 1,5209 ppm; 1,4436 ppm; 1,4377 ppm; 1,3879 ppm; 1,3607 ppm; 1,3535 ppm; dan 1,3689 ppm. The average of Cr(VI) ion levels in groundwater studied exceeds the maximum levels of metals contamination allowed according to RI Permenkes No.32 in 2017. The average of Cr(VI) ion levels also exceeded the threshold of 0,05 ppm according to RI Permenkes No.416/Menkes/Per/IX/1990.
