Abstract

Motor vehicle smoke pollution contains lead exposure which if accumulated in the blood exceeds the stipulated level, it can cause health problems, both psychological and physical. This study aims to determine the effect of exposure to lead emitted by motor vehicle fumes on students who take part-time jobs as online motorcycle taxi drivers. The influences studied include IQ levels and communication anxiety. Measurement of IQ using the WAIS test (Wechsler Adult Intelligence Scale) while Communication Anxiety was measured using the Communication Anxiety Scale. Blood lead levels were checked using the GFAAS tool. The data on blood lead levels, IQ scores and communication anxiety were then tested for normality using the Kolmogorov Smirnov technique and followed by a linearity test with a test of linearity. Then for hypothesis testing, the data were analyzed using simple regression analysis. The result is that there is a relationship between blood lead levels with IQ levels and communication anxiety.

Abstract

Carbon monoxide (CO) gas is a colorless, odorless, tasteless, non-irritating, flammable and highly toxic gas, and does not dissolve in water. Carbon monoxide is exposed to the body, binds to hemoglobin and inhibits oxygen to form carboxyhemoglobin. This study aims to determine carboxyhemoglobin levels in online motorcycle drivers (GO-JEK) and traffic control volunteer officer in Surakarta in Surakarta with the conway diffusion cell method. This research is a descriptive study with a quota sampling technique and the analysis used is a simple linear regression test. The subjects of this study were 12 respondents drawn from the population in accordance with specified criteria. Examination of COHb levels in the conway diffusion cell method uses a UV-VIS spectrophotometer. The results showed that description of HbCO levels for the 12 samples of GO-JEK drivers and SUPELTAS <3.5% which showed that they were still above normal, the systolic blood pressure description in the normal category was 75%, while the abnormal category was 25% and for diastolic blood pressure included the normal category was 58% while the abnormal one was 42%. Keywords: HbCO, conway diffusion cell method, online motorcycle taxi driver (GO-JEK), traffic control volunteer officer.

Abstract

Metal smelting has the potential to release micro-sized metal particles into the air. One of the metal smelting household industries is the gamelan industry. Brass is the basic material for making gamelan with a lead (Pb) content of 0.46%. In the process of making this gamelan, gamelan craftsmen will have a risk of exposure to Pb particles. Absorbed lead will be transported in the organs of the body as much as 95%, in the blood lead will be bound by erythrocytes and will interfere with the formation of hemoglobin. This study aims to see the relationship between Pb levels and the blood profile of metal forging workers in the gamelan industry, Wirun Mojolaban Village, Sukoharjo. This research is a quantitative, observational study with a sample size of 35 gamelan craftsmen in Wirun Village, Mojolaban Sukoharjo. The examination of Pb levels was carried out at BLK Jogja with GFAAS, while the examination of hemoglobin, leukocytes, platelets, hematocrit, and erythrocytes was carried out in the clinical laboratory. The results showed that there was no relationship between Pb levels in the blood and the number of hemoglobin, leukocytes, platelets, hematocrit, and erythrocytes. Although gamelan craftsmen are exposed to lead, they have not shown any symptoms of poisoning and have no blood disorders.

Abstract

Tannins result from plants' secondary metabolism, closely associated with plant defense mechanisms against insects. Condensed tannins can disrupt the life cycle of parasitic nematodes starting from eggs, adult worms, and larvae. Currently, the antiparasitic properties of condensed tannins are being investigated as an alternative for controlling parasites. The people use the young Pisang Ambon (Musa × parasidiaca L.) as an anthelmintic. People generally use this part of the banana peel. Based on this, a study was conducted to determine the tannin content in the peel and fruit of Pisang Ambon (Musa × parasidiaca L.). The research was conducted by extracting the fruit and peel of young Pisang Ambon by maceration method using 96% ethanol as solvent. The Harborne method and Thin Layer Chromatography tested the presence of secondary metabolites. The tannin content was determined by the visible, ultraviolet spectrophotometric method. The qualitative results showed that the peel and fruit of Pisang Ambon contained condensed tannins. Meanwhile, the quantitative results showed that the tannin content of the fruit (54.98% w/w) was higher than the peel (14.32 %w/w).
