Abstract

One of the obstacles, particularly speaking anxiety, has a significant impact on someone's ability to speak a foreign language. In fact, because to the Covid-19 pandemic, researchers discovered that students were anxious of speaking English in class in limited face-to-face learning. In light of this context, the purpose of this study was to look at the primary causes and sources of students' anxiety when learning to speak English in limited face-to-face learning due to pandemic Covid-19. A qualitative methodology and descriptive method were used to conduct the research. Six eighth-grade students from a public junior high school in Karawang took part in the study. Two low-level students, two middle-level students, and two high-level students were separated into three groups. Researchers used observation, interview, and documentation to gather data. The result showed that the primary causes of students' concern in learning English speaking, according to this research, were poor pronunciation and a lack of vocabulary. Meanwhile, students' anxiety in learning English speaking came from lack of confidence and nervousness. It implies that it is essential for teachers to be able to fulfill their roles as facilitators in order to minimize students' speaking anxiety in a foreign language classroom.

Abstract

The objective of this study are to find out the significant effect of the use Picture Series students’ descriptive writing skill and the students’ responses toward using Picture Series in writing descriptive text. This research used quantitative method with quasi experimental design. The target population and sample of this study was the tenth grade of students at Private Senior High School in Karawang that consist of 60 students. In this research, written test was administered as an instrument for both experimental and control groups and the administrating of questionnaires given to an experimental group. To answer the first research problem, the data from written test were analyzed using independent t-test. The result of data was of tobserved = 2.037 and ttable = 2.00 with the standard of significance 0.05. It means that tobserved was higher than the ttable (2.037 > 2.00). Moreover, the result indicated that Picture Series media significantly was effective toward students’ descriptive writing skill. Based on the result of questionnaire, it can be explained that most of the students had positive responses in learning writing of descriptive text by using Picture Series media and they were felt enjoyable and interested series to use pictures  in learning writing descriptive text.Keywords: Descriptive Writing Skill, Picture Series.

Abstract

Penelitian ini bertujuan untuk: (1) menginvestigasi penerapan model pembelajaran Blended Learning, (2) mengetahui persepsi mahasiswa, serta (3) mengetahui kendala apa saja yang dihadapi selama menggunakan Blended Learning pada Mata Kuliah Foundation of EYL. Metode yang digunakan adalah deskriptif kualitatif. Responden dalam penelitian ini merupakan mahasiswa semester IV Prodi Pendidikan Bahasa Inggris. Lembar observasi, kuesioner, dan dokumentasi digunakan sebagai instrumen penelitian. Hasil dari penelitian adalah: (1) pengimplementasian model pembelajaran Blended Learning pada mata kuliah Foundation of EYL dapat diintegrasikan dengan Google Classroom. Kelas online dan kelas tatap muka dilaksanakan bergantian setiap minggunya; (2) persepsi mahasiswa terhadap pengimplementasian model pembelajaran ini yaitu sebagian besar mahasiswa memberikan respon yang positif karena dianggap sebagai model pembelajaran yang inovatif dan menyenangkan; (3) Kendala-kendala yang dihadapi adalah koneksi internet yang kurang memadai, saat pembuatan video dibutuhkan tempat yang minim gangguan suara, saat mengedit video dibutuhkan kemampuan yang mumpuni, dan waktu yang cukup lama saat penggunggahan video.

Abstract

Student’s misbehavior, sometimes, can interrupt the process of teaching and learning. Moreover, one of students didn’t realize that his/her misbehavior can hinder their achievement on English lesson. The purposes of this research are: (1) to find out the characteristics of student’s misbehavior, and (2) to find out the factor of student’s misbehavior in learning English lesson. The research used qualitative approach. The participants of this research were 20 students at SDN Cadaskertajaya 1 Karawang. The results of this research showed that: (1) there are three kinds of student’s misbehavior to English lesson, There are: (a) in-attention, for examples daydreaming, doodling and looking at the window; (b) disruption, for examples talking with friends, laughing in-appropriately and shouting out during instruction; (c) annoying others, for examples provoking, teasing, and calling names. (2) The factor of student’s misbehavior is affected by internal and external. The internal factor is students itself, for instances: attention seeking and learning difficulties. In other hand, the external factor is from the teacher and society.

Abstract

This study aimed at finding out the junior high school students' difficulties in reading and students' attempts to overcome their reading difficulties during the covid-19 pandemic. This study used a qualitative method with a descriptive approach. The research participant took from six students in junior high school in Karawang with different levels from high, middle, and high levels, each level took from two students. The data on students’ reading comprehension difficulties were collected through observation, interviews, and documentation. The results show that students’ reading comprehension difficulties were affected by internal factors and external factors. and the use of the internet became the media for students’ attempts to deal with reading difficulties.

Abstract

This research is conducted to find out Edmodo can increase student’s ability in learning course design of EYL and student’s perception in learning course design of EYL by using Edmodo. A mixed method was used to collect quantitative and qualitative data. In answering those two research questions, the researcher used test (pre-test and post-test) to collect quantitative data and also used interview as data gathering technique to collect qualitative data. The findings of the research showed that: (1) Edmodo can increase student’s ability in learning course design of EYL. It is proven by the score of Independent T-test -0,741 and sig (2 tailed) was higher than degree of significance (0,462 < 0,05). (2) Student’s perception in learning course design of EYL by using Edmodo showed that Edmodo in learning course design of EYL can help students more understand the materials because they can get more information about materials of EYL especially course design of EYL; they can discuss the materials each other anywhere and anytime; they felt more interesting and happy; they are more confident to express their ideas, therefore they can be more active in learning course design of EYL.

Abstract

ABSTRAKKurikulum 2013 menuntut guru untuk menciptakan situasi pembelajaran yang kreatif dan inovatif dan dituntut untuk mampu menyediakan Sumber Daya Manusia (SDM) yang sesuai dengan tuntutan kebutuhan dunia industri. Tujuan dari pelaksanaan program pengabdian masyarakat ini adalah untuk memberikan pelatihan “English for Accounting” bagi guru-guru bahasa Inggris SMK  di Kabupaten Karawang. Pelaksanaan PKM ini dilaksanakan selama 3 bulan yaitu pada bulan September, Oktober, dan November 2021. Peserta kegiatan pelatihan ini melibatkan guru – guru SMK sebanyak 60 orang. Kegiatan pengabdian pada masyarakat ini dilakukan dengan menggunakan metode pelatihan dan workshop dengan melibatkan 3 tahapan pelaksanaan, yaitu (1) perencanaan untuk mengetahui kebutuhan dan menyusun materi pelatihan, (2) pelaksanaan kegiatan dan (3) evaluasi pelaksanaan yang dilakukan dengan analisis angket Kegiatan ini dilaksanakan di Ruang Auditorium SMK Bhinneka Karawang. Hasil dari pelaksanaan kegiatan ini menunjukan hasil yang memuaskan  pada 4 aspek, yaitu kesesuaian materi dengan kebutuhan, kejelasan informasi yang disampaikan dan interaksi dengan narasumber, serta kepuasan tentang pelaksanaan kegiatan. Oleh karena itu,  program kegiatan pengabdian pada masyarakat  mampu meningkatkan kompetensi guru dalam  bahan ajar bahasa Inggris untuk bidang Akuntansi Keuangan dan Lembaga serta penerapan media Teknologi Infomasi dan Komunikasi (TIK) di dalam kelas. Hasil dari pelaksanaan kegiatan ini menunjukan bahwa program kegiatan pengabdian pada masyarakat  mampu meningkatkan kompetensi guru dalam memb bahan ajar yang sesuai dengan jurusan bidang keahlian di sekolah, selain itu kegiatan pelatihan ini dan pengetahuan baru di bidang Teknologi Infomasi dan Komunikasi (TIK). Kata kunci: english for accounting; sekolah menengah kejuruan; guru bahasa inggris ABSTRACTThe national 2013 curriculum requires teachers to create innovative learning situations and is required to be able to provide Human Resources (HR) who meet the demands of the industrial world. The purpose of this community service program is to provide "English for Accounting" training for English teachers at Vocational High School in Karawang Regency. The implementation of this program was carried out for 3 months, from September to November 2021. The participants of this training activity were 60 teachers. This community service activity was carried out using training and workshop methods which involved 3 stages, i,e, planning, implementation and evaluation. This activity was held in the Auditorium of the Bhinneka Vocational School in Karawang. The results of the implementation of this activity indicated the participants’ satisfaction in 4 areas, i.e. the material suitability, clarity of information and interaction with the speakers as well as their overall satisfaction of the activities. Thus, it can be concluded that the activity facilitated the participants to improve their competence regarding English for Accounting teaching materials and Information and Communication Technology (ICT) classroom integration. Keywords: english for accounting; english teacher; vocational school

Abstract

ABSTRAKBerdasarkan hasil analisis dan wawancara yang telah dilakukan, terdapat beberapa masalah yang dihadapi oleh guru-guru SMK Iptek Sanggabuana Karawang selama mengajar pembelajaran jarak jauh sesuai dengan ketetapan pemerintah Indonesia agar mencegah penyebaran virus covid-19. Permasalahan pertama yaitu banyak guru yang masih belum paham mengenai aplikasi pembelajaran yang efektif bagi guru maupun siswa, kemudian yang kedua siswa menjadi kurang tertarik untuk mengikuti kegiatan pembelajaran jarak jauh karena keterbatasan penggunaan aplikasi yang tidak bervariatif. Maka dari itu selaras dengan permasalahan yang ada, tujuan pelatihan ini yaitu untuk memudahkan guru-guru SMK Iptek Sanggabuana Karawang dalam penerapan aplikasi pembelajaran khususnya aplikasi edpuzzle yang terintegrasi dengan google classroom. Metode yang digunakan dalam pelatihan ini adalah dengan metode ceramah dan praktek. Kegiatan pelatihan dilakukan selama satu hari dan melibatkan 20 guru SMK Iptek Sanggabuana Karawang. Hasil dari pelatihan tersebut yaitu guru-guru menjadi lebih paham untuk menerapkan aplikasi edpuzzle terintegrasi dengan google classroom pada kelas pembelajaran jarak jauh agar lebih efektif, serta siswa pun tertarik dan lebih semangat selama proses pembelajaran karena aplikasi yang digunakan lebih bervariatif, dan interaktif. Kata kunci: workshop; edpuzzle; google classroom; PJJ. ABSTRACTBased on the results of the analysis and interviews that have been carried out, there are several problems faced by teachers of SMK Iptek Sanggabuana Karawang during teaching distance learning in accordance with the provisions of the Indonesian government in order to prevent the spread of the covid-19 virus. The first problem is that many teachers still do not understand about effective learning applications for teachers and students, then the second is students become less interested in participating in distance learning activities because of the limitations of using applications that are not varied. Therefore, in line with the existing problems, the purpose of this training is to make it easier for teachers of SMK Iptek Sanggabuana Karawang in implementing learning applications, especially the edpuzzle application which is integrated with google classroom. The method used in this workshop is the lecture method and practice. The training activity was carried out in one day and involved 20 teachers of SMK Iptek Sanggabuana Karawang. The results of the workshop were that teachers became more understand to implementing the edpuzzle application integrated with Google Classroom in distance learning classes to be more effective, and students were interested and more enthusiastic during the learning process because the applications used were more varied, and interactive. Keywords: workshop; edpuzzle; google classroom; PJJ.

Abstract

This narrative study aims to explore the students' motivational experience of two English education students in Indonesia during the COVID-19 pandemic. The research was conducted by using a qualitative approach and narrative inquiry method. The research participants were two students second and fourth semester at the university of Singaperbangsa Karawang. To collect the data, researchers used were interviews. Drawing on semi-structured interview data, we found the prevalence of online courses affected students' emotions and motivation. Both participants experienced emotions and motivation facing the online courses. The study stresses the students’ experience, emotional experiences during online class, and factors that motivated learning. Keywords:  Online learning, English Learning, Students’ Experiences
