Abstract

In 2017, Sweden built women entrepreneurship (SHE-Leads Program) in Saudi Arabia to foster networks, meetings, and educational opportunities to train Saudi Arabian women as entrepreneurs and innovators. The aim of this study is to elucidate how did Sweden’s feminist foreign policy build women’s entrepreneurship in Saudi Arabia 2017-2021. This study was conducted using interview method by electronic mail with Monika Wirkkala, Director of the Department of Communication and Analysis of Sweden at the Swedish Institute (SI). The data are analyzed using the feminist foreign policy concept proposed by Cheung, Gürsel, Kirchner, & Scheyer, which encompasses five core values of feminist foreign policy. The results were as follows: (1) intersectionality, Sweden applied this policy fairly without any differentiation among participants; (2) empathetic reflectivity, Swedish leaders and stakeholders responded positively to this policy by developing SHE-Pioneer; (3) substantive representation and participation, Sweden actively engaged women from the Swedish Institute (SI) and collaborated with non-state actors in formulating and implementing policies; (4) accountability, the policy incorporates evaluation and monitoring, involving program participants, stakeholders, and partners; (5) commitment to peace, the SHE-Leads Program policy is implemented through collaboration, involving participants from diverse backgrounds, and aims to strengthen relations between Sweden and Saudi Arabia. This study concluded that Sweden feminist foreign policy in building women entrepreneurship in Saudi Arabia (SHE-Leads Program) has reflected Sweden feminist foreign policy and has implemented the five core values of the feminist foreign policy concept.

Abstract

Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs) number 2 is "zero hunger," among the targets mentioned in the SDGs document are stunting prevention and sustainable agriculture. One of the causes of stunting is the lack of nutrition, especially foods that contain iron and zinc, which come from green vegetables. The community service carried out by the Team of the International Relations Study Program at Padjadjaran University integrates these targets by encouraging the village residents to process organic waste as fertilizer and grow vegetables organically. The community service carried out in the RW 22 Cileunyi Kulon Village in the form of assistance and consultation for the village residents so that they are consistent in processing organic waste and growing vegetables that are sources of iron and zinc. In this activity, the team conducted interviews and dialogue with the village residents (who had previously received education on processing organic waste and tools for organic farming) to evaluate their activities so far. Thus, the method used is PRA (Participatory Rural Appraisal), in which the team acts as a facilitator, and residents carry out the activities independently. The findings from this assistance are that consistent residents have strong motivation regarding the benefits of processing organic waste and growing organic vegetables.

Abstract

The Belt and Road Initiative is a global infrastructure development project initiated by China by building roads and railroads connecting Asia to Europe and the Indo-Pacific port line starting from Southeast Asia, South Asia, the Middle East, and Africa. One country with an important strategic position in this project is Iran, which geographically connects the BRI Southern Corridor (China-Central Asia-West Asia Economic Corridor), which connects Central Asia, Iran, Turkey, and the Balkan countries. This article explains Iran's foreign policy strategy regarding China's BRI based on Lovell's typology of foreign policy strategies (1970). Using a qualitative method, the findings of this article are that Iran is implementing a concordance strategy of foreign policy. Iran implements tactical objectives by exploiting tactical advantages, reducing tactical losses, increasing bargaining position, and strengthening deterrence. Iran also performs tactical strategies consisting of "declarations and commitments, promises and threats" and "demonstrations of capability". .
