Abstract

This study aims to analyze 40 Scopus-indexed articles from 2015-2025 related to Education for Sustainable Development (ESD) in science learning. This study employs PRISMA and the systematic literature review method. The results of this study show that the most articles found were published in 2015 and 2021, with 7 articles each. Most articles came from Germany (8 articles). The research method that is often used is mixed methods (15 articles), with the most research objects being undergraduate students (16 articles), and mostly covering science material (19 articles). The most applied research benefit in the research is integrating three ESD domains, namely cognitive, socio-emotional, and behavioral. The SDGs that are most commonly mentioned in the studied literature are SDG 4 (Quality Education), SDG 13 (Climate Action), and SDG 12 (Responsible Consumption and Production). The findings in this study can offer a thorough summary that can be used to create science education plans that incorporate ESD principles, as well as become recommendations for further research related to ESD in science learning.

Abstract

Poor solid waste management can lead to significant environmental pollution, and the younger generation needs to be involved in finding solutions. The purpose of this study is to investigate the impact of involving students in ESD-STEM learning through solid waste management projects on improving engineering design skills and sustainability actions. A quasi-experimental design with a non-probability sampling method, especially convenience sampling, was used. There were two classes, one experimental and one control, each with 35 students. The instruments used included a validated and reliable sustainability action questionnaire. The questionnaire to measure changes in student actions was adapted from the Environmental Citizenship Questionnaire (ECQ) and ESD learning goals. The results showed a significant difference in the sustainability actions of students in the experimental and control classes after the learning process but with an increase in student action in the experimental class which was still low with an average N-gain score of 0.25. This shows that student involvement through the ESD-STEM solid waste management project has a significant influence on student sustainability actions, although the increase is still relatively low. These results prove that ESD-STEM learning is able to enhance students’ sustainability action on environmental issues, but more optimal habituation and assistance are needed for more sustainable impact.

Abstract

This study aims to develop an android-based application to explore students understanding of chemical representation on matter topics. This study used a DDD-E development model as a research method, consisting of deciding stage, designing stage, developing stage, and evaluating stage. The deciding stage begins with analyzing the content and the software used to develop it. The designing stage consists of drawing a flowchart and the storyboard. Then, in the developing stage, the application was developed based on flowchart and the storyboard. The last is evaluating stage, which involves five expert judges reviewing the application. The result shows that the ChemFUN Android application is compatible only for the Android operating system. However, there are many buttons the user can interact. In guided inquiry, the materials show the chemical multiple representations view and the interconnections between macroscopic, microscopic, and symbolic views. The review result show that the final average score on the content quality is 3.64, followed by a language category with an average score of 3.65 and the design category with an average score of 3.60. Although it still has a low audio, spelling, and grammar score, it has been revised. The average for all categories is 3.63, which is very good, indicating that ChemFUN Android application is ready to be used in the learning activity to explore students understanding of chemical representation on matter topics. Also, this kind of research can be done with different chemistry topics, whether in National Curriculum or Cambridge Curriculum.
