Abstract

The present paper aims to reveal the problems faced by teachers when teaching English for second – grade students at Al – Azhar 55 Islamic Primary Schoolin Yogyakarta. This bilingual school is considered as a pilot project which began theprogram in July 2016. There are only 2 classes which are the first and second grade.However, this study involved 21 second-grade students, 2 homeroom teachers, and 1native speaker. Qualitative method was applied in this study by combining documentanalysis, observation, and interview both students and the teachers. The results showsome problems occurred during teaching and learning process and how the teachersovercome them. The problems were (1) students’ lack of discipline during teaching andlearning process (2) the variety of students’ English ability, (3) difficulty in creating habit to use English as daily language, and (4) less support from parents. While, the solutions were (1) applying Class Dojo application, (2) providing the preparation class, (3) support and assistance from teachers and friends, and (4) hands – on learning.

Abstract

This study aimed to illustrate some learning activities in Integrated English class byutilizing WhatsApp application and how the students respond to its implementation. The study was conducted in Accounting Department at University of Technology Yogyakarta. The subject of this study was 66 students in Accounting Class A of 2018/2019 Academic Year. The instruments to gather the data were observation, questionnaires and unstructrured interview. The result of this study showed that WhatsApp Application could be utilized as one of the beneficial devices to assist students in learning integrated English and there were positive responses from students during the implementation of WhatsApp in their learning process.

Abstract

Kehidupan manusia selalu dibayang-bayangi oleh bencana. Diperlukan upaya untuk meminimalisasi dampak bencana, baik yang berupa bencana alam, non-alam, maupun bencana sosial. Karya sastra sebagai karya kreatif (ekspresif) dan cerminan alam (mimetik), menjadi salah satu objek yang layak dikaji untuk memberikan sumbangsih dalam kemitigasian bencana. Penelitian ini menganalisis struktur novel yang mengangkat cerita kebencanaan. Metode yang digunakan dalam penelitian ini adalah penelitian kualitatif dengan pendekatan struktural sebagai alat analisis. Temuan dari analisis intrinsik menunjukkan bahwa bencana sosial menjadi tema dominan dalam novel-novel Indonesia. Selain itu, ditemukan bahwa dalam novel-novel Indonesia memiliki struktur yang mengandung keseluruhan, transformasi dan regulasi diri.

Abstract

Marketing is one of the determinant factors on business success, even though there are still many negligent companies and still use conventional systems so that their sales turnover is low. The COVID-19 pandemic also creates problems on sales turnover. Micro, Small, and Medium Enterprises of Batik Berkah Lestari Imogiri are among those affected by the pandemic. This is related to the conventional marketing system that has been implemented up to this time. In addition, government policies related to pandemics also limit life activities. People are no longer free to visit shopping centers, so they need to make transaction media without leaving their homes. The development of internet technology has presented a medium called a website. Its flexibility, convenience, and simplicity make webiste to be widely used. Moreover,  the existence of website will be used for Batik Berkah Lestari in marketing its products during the pandemic. This study aims to implement the website as an online transaction medium for Batik Berkah Letasri. By utilizing the website as a medium for electronic transaction, the market reach will be even wider so that transaction opportunities at Batik Berkah Lestari will be even greater.

Abstract

Destinasi Wisata Pasar Kebon Empring (Bonpring) merupakan salah satu destinasi yang baru berjalan dua tahun sebelum munculnya pandemi Covid-19. Masuknya virus Covid-19 di Yogyakarta mengakibatkan ditutupnya beberapa destinasi wisata salah satunya Bonpring. Penutupan tersebut berdampak besar bagi perekonomian masyarakat setempat karena destinasi wisata ini sepenuhnya dilakukan oleh masyarakat sekitar. Pengelola yang merasa bertanggung jawab atas kegelisahan warga segera mendiskusikannya pada Dinas Pariwisata Bantul untuk menemukan titik tengah. Pada Juli 2020, destinasi ini diijinkan untuk dibuka kembali setelah dilaksanakannya sosialisasi pelaksanaan kegiatan wisata dengan starndar protokol kesehatan. Tujuan pelaksanaan penelitian ini adalah untuk melihat ketertiban pelaksanaan protokol kesehatan Covid-19 pada destinasi wisata. Metode penelitian yang digunakan adalah deskriptif kualitatif yang menggunakan instrumen penelitian berdasarkan pedoman pelaksanaan kegiatan wisata di masa pandemi Covid-19. Berdasarkan hasil observasi, Bonpring telah melakukan sebagaian besar standar protokol kesehatan dalam melaksanakan kegiatan wisata. Namun, pemantauan kepada pedagang untuk menggunakan masker dengan baik masih perlu ditingkatkan. Selain itu Bonpring belum rutin untuk melakukan pembersiahan area menggunakan disinfektan. Secara umum Bonpring telah memberikan upaya yang baik dalam menerapkan kegiatan wisata dengan standar protokol kesehatan Covid-19. Namun, pengawasan dan evaluasi pelaksanaan kegiatan wisata harus lebih ditingkatkan.

Abstract

The use of technology has become more inseparable as a part of the learning process in and out of the class. It offers various new tools that can be utilized by both learners and teachers. Microsoft Immersive Reader (MIR) is one of learning tools which equipped with various features to help students reading comprehension. In addition, to assist teacher in using technology in classroom, SMAR model serves as a framework which allows the teacher to assess their use of technology and determine the level of technology integration in their classroom. This study focuses on how to utilize MIR with SMAR model in reading class. The study was conducted at English Education Department. There were 1 lecturer and 35 students of the second semester who took part as repsondents. The data were gathered from observation and interview. The result shows that the lecturer gives psotive view that MIR will improve the quality of teaching and learning and also improve students’ motivation in learning reading. The students viewed the use MIR as motivating, and various features on MIR enabled them to understand the assigned reading topic much easier. Moreover, the reading assignment incorporating the use of MIR features encouraged them to actively participate in reading activities in a collaborative atmoshphere.
