Abstract

The Muqaddaman Tradition in Banjaragung Village, Bangsri District, Jepara Regency: A Study of the Living Qur'anMuqaddaman is an activity of reading the Qur'an which is carried out collectively, in which each individual receives a division of juz from 1 to 30 which is divided randomly according to their respective rations. Muqaddaman is a tradition that has been widely practiced by the Muslim community. This study aims to reveal the aspects of the living Qur’an in the muqaddaman tradition in Banjaragung village through a descriptive-inductive method with Max Weber's theory of social action as the analytical tool. This study seeks to answer how Max Weber's point of view on social action towards the muqaddaman tradition is in Banjaragung village. The results of this study are: First, this tradition is a part of the study of the living Qur’an. Second, based on the type of traditional action, traditional actors want to carry out Islamic religious symbols as traditions that have been carried out by scholars from generation to generation. Third, affective action shows that the perpetrators of the action have an emotional bond with religious leaders and the time of execution (Thursday). Fourth, in term of rational instrumental action, the actors can carry out the tradition rationally and consciously, both from the financial aspect and human resources. Fifth, in term of value rationality, actors want to emulate the behaviour of religious figures, to get used to giving alms, and to instil the value of member solidarity

The housewife comes from a family affected by Covid-19. Data obtained through observation and semi-structured interviews. The thinking framework used is Pierre Bordieu's perspective on the masculine domination. The masculine domination that was found in the social practices of the Sotang’s Village during the Covid-19 pandemic included: (1) women and onion cutting jobs during the Covid-19 outbreak; (2) female onion cutters as mothers and teachers; (3) space contestation for women onion cutters; (4) poverty and women. The role of women in increasing economic capital cannot be exchanged for symbolic capital. The form of masculine domination followed by symbolic violence as a result of the persecution of women from the lower middle class in the  Sotang’s Village during the Covid-19 pandemic has become part of the strengthening of androcentric culture.

Abstract

As a religious institution, pesantren is expected to be able to spread Islamic values of raḥmatan li al-‘ālamīn and counter radicalism in Indonesia. The portrait of such a pesantren is, for example, reflected in Pesantren Al-Anwar 3 Sarang. This study aims to reveal the efforts made by Pesantren Al-Anwar 3 Sarang in countering radicalism and terrorism in the country. It is a field study with a qualitative approach, where the data were obtained through participatory observation, in-depth interviews, and document analysis. This study found that Pesantren Al-Anwar 3 Sarang had initiated serious efforts in order to counter radicalism. First, the pesantren teaches the values of diversity to students so that they may act more wisely in responding to differences in cultures, thoughts, and religious ideologies. Second, the pesantren instills in students that the Unitary State of the Republic of Indonesia (NKRI) has been in accordance with Islamic law and the best form of compromise as the embodiment of Dawlah Mu‘aḥidīn (a treaty-based state). Third, the pesantren opposes radical ideologies which are believed to be one of the crucial factors in the birth of violent acts. Fourth, the pesantren propagates tolerance and pluralism because both are believed to be sourced from the teachings of Islam and the Qur'an. Fifth, the pesantren promotes Islamic moderation. Lastly, the pesantren calls for peace among mankind. Overall, the efforts made by Pesantren Al-Anwar 3 Sarang are expected to be a reference for other pesantren in countering radicalism.
