The proportion of men and women equally, the median age was 18.58 years (SD = 1.79). In this study  used  self-report  measure  of  modality. Subtest function measurement using gossip as a tool to influence others from scale measuring GFQ (questionnaire Gossip Foster), composed by Eric foster (2004). As a result, 55.2 per cent of  participants  of  the  important  functions  of gossip influence others. However, if both sexes were  compared  results  were  not  found substantial  differences  (though  the  average higher for women). Abstract

Optimism is a critical aspect influencing midwive candidate in their educational phase because it could affect midwifery students in overcoming any obstacles during their study. One of the factors associated with optimism is culture. This study was conducted to examine the differences of optimism given various ethnicities on midwifery students. The study sample was the 476 vocational students majoring in midwifery that were located in the provinces of DKI Jakarta, West Java, Banten, and West Sumatra (women only, age ranged 19-20 years). The LOT-R questionnaire was used to collect data on optimism. The results of One-Way ANOVA test showed that there was no significant difference on optimism in view of ethnicity (F=1.040; p>.05). The future studies should involve more participants from various ethnicities in Indonesia, especially ethnicities in the eastern region of Indonesia.

Abstract

This study is a first attempt to develop a new instrument using the Implicit Association Test (IAT) method. Researchers have tried to use this method in social psychology research, particularly to measure the construct of national identity. The national identity is a multi-dimensional construct and has several fundamental attributes, namely the same territorial, historical memories, culture, general rights laws and obligations for all members, and equal rights in the economic and territorial mobilization for group members. The study was conducted with 48 participants aged 17-23 years (M = 18.98, SD = 1.25). The result showed that the correlation between explicit and implicit measures on the construct of national identity was positive but not significant. Moreover, the explicit and implicit measurement did not provide the same pattern; indicating that both measurements measure national identity construct from a different point of view. Next, we evaluate the strengths and weaknesses of the two measurement methods in the Discussion section and then, provide recommendations for further studies.

Abstract

This study aimed to examine the relationship between the values of Pancasila in shaping a sense of citizenship in teenagers. Teenagers are the future residents of a nation that is expected to embody the values of Pancasila in public life. These values are inculcated through education at school, and could result in the creation of a sense of citizenship in teenagers. This study uses quantitative methods involving 297 high school students from the country, religious-affiliated schools and boarding school in West Java. Pearson correlation test showed a positive correlation and significant at all values of Pancasila and a sense of citizenship, which is the first principle, the secondprinciple, third, fourth, and fifth. Thus, the higher the values of Pancasila individual then come high sense of citizenship. In particular, the strongest relationships arise from values of social justice and citizenship

Abstract

In previous research (Meinarno & Suwartono, 2011), we developed 32 items from five values of Pancasila, however the psychometric properties of the scale are yet to be explored. In this reasearch, we identfied five dimensions of the scale, namely spirituality, humanity, nationality, democracy, and social justice. Using convenience sampling, with Webropol survey software to collect the data, of 234 participants, 59% were female, with range of age 15 35 years old (M=18.42, SD = 1.74). In this research, we focused on construct validation of a measurement model using confirmatory factor analysis. We found that the Pancasila scale consists of 25 items. The Cronbach's alpha coefficients for each dimension were 0.78, 0.70, 0.79, 0.70, and 0.77 respectively. Then, we explored the underlying factor structure and found five latent value factors and these were spirituality, humanity, nationality, democracy, and social justice. The five factors, each formed a unidimensional scale. However, these five latent factors cannot be explained by the high order of the latent factor, namely Pancasila. The second order factorial structure using confirmatory factor analysis did not fit. The fit indices showed that the model did not fit the data well. The results of CFA did not confirm the presence of a second-order factorial structure of Pancasila.

Abstract

This article discussed about globalization that eliminated physical borders between coun- tries in the world so that it considered a variable of social change in various fields. One of the important issues related to globalization was whether globalization related to things that were typical of a group, namely the value of the dominant group and has advantages in various aspects of life. Indonesian society has a distinctive value, namely Pancasila. The study method used Pearson correlation analysis to test two significance of two variables, knowing the strong-weak relationship, and knowing the amount of retribution and to explain the degree of relationship between indepen- dent variables with dependent variables. This article also discussed about the measurement the relationship between values formulated in Pancasila and correlated with the global identity. The results obtained that the higher score of Pancasila equal with the person global identity score. This happens to all values of Pancasila. These results could be a marker that the value of Pancasila relevant for Indonesian people in the face of globalization.DOI: http://dx.doi.org/10.17977/um019v3i12018p074

Abstract

Abstract

Abstract

This research is intended to understand description of religious orientation of the community. The basic concept of religious orientation used in this research came from Allport and Ross. The religious orientation is measured using Allport-Ross (AROS) measuring device which had been used by Mohammad and Ginting. It consisting of 20 opinions conducted with a Likert typed scale. There were 157 participants joined in this research. The average of intrinsic religious orientation from the group of participations is 4.48 with SD grade of 0.65 . Furthermore, average value of population is also found to be approximately of 4.38 to 4.59 with 95% l.o.s. If the result of this intrinsic religious orientation average is included in table 2, then the result of its intrinsic religious orientation in considered to be high. Meanwhile, the average of extrinsic religious orientation from the participants is 3.17 to 3.43 with 95% l.o.s. Such outcome if adjusted with table of category then extrinsic religious orientation of the community is rated low.

Abstract

The purpose of this research was to gain understanding and experience of individual's risk perception. The research method was quantitative, using risk perception questionnaire (159 questions), adapted from Kpanake, Chauvin and Mullet (2008). The participants of this research were 123 Jakarta residents consisting of 98 females and 125 males. The results were put in five broad categories of risks: (1) natural disasters, (2) wars, (3) chemicals, (4) human relationships and (5) health. Natural disasters include tsunami and earthquake. Wars consist of battles, nuclear weapons, chemical weapons and dynamites. Chemical contain of ecstasy, heroin, and hospital wastes. Human relationships include sexual intercourse, crimes, and violence. One risk perception in health is heart surgery. The results of the research are somewhat different from Slovic, Fischhoff and Lichenstein's findings (1979) revealing that nuclear usage is the number one issue. This is due to the difference in research's conditions. Their research was conducted in US which have nuclear weapons and suffered several nuclear reactor accidents. On the other hand, Indonesia is not only an archipelago on actively moving earth crusts resulting on earthquakes and volcano eruptions but also undergoes destructive natural resource exploitation leading to floods and landslides.
