Abstract

Arabic has a complex sound system, and many of its phonemes do not have direct equivalents in Indonesian, often causing Indonesian learners to experience difficulty in producing accurate pronunciation. Previous studies consistently indicate phonological problems such as sound substitution, difficulty distinguishing long and short vowels, and challenges in pronouncing emphatic, guttural, and uvular consonants. However, most of these studies remain descriptive and have not been sufficiently linked to a modern Arabic phonetic framework that may support pedagogical improvement. This study aims to analyze the relevance of Ibrāhīm Anīss phonetic and phonological concepts in Al-Aṣwāt al-Lughawiyyah to the teaching of Arabic sounds among Indonesian learners. This research employs a qualitative approach using library research and content analysis of Anīss primary text alongside secondary empirical studies and modern phonetic literature. The findings show that Anīss phonetic framework including articulation mechanisms, sound classification, and acoustic characteristics has significant relevance as a pedagogical foundation for explaining sound production scientifically and systematically rather than relying solely on memorization and imitation. The study recommends integrating Anīss phonetic perspectives into Arabic language instruction in Indonesia to help teachers design more effective pronunciation learning aligned with Indonesian learners phonological characteristics.

Abstract

The advancement of digital technology has shifted the paradigm of Arabic language learning from reliance on conventional resources to the use of digital media that offers greater authenticity and contextual relevance. One such medium is the Indonesian digital news portal “Indonesia Alyaum”, which presents various information about Indonesia in Modern Standard Arabic. This study aims to analyze the use of “Indonesia Alyaum” in enhancing the Arabic-Indonesian literacy of doctoral students in the Arabic Language Education program at UIN Alauddin Makassar. Employing a qualitative field research approach, the study gathered data through in-depth interviews, observation, and documentation. The data were analyzed using the interactive model developed by Miles, Huberman, and Saldaña, comprising data reduction, data display, and conclusion drawing. The findings indicate that the use of “Indonesia Alyaum” improves students' ability to read contemporary Arabic texts, enriches their academic vocabulary, fosters critical literacy, and strengthens their skills in translating or transforming information between Arabic and Indonesian. Furthermore, the use of digital news media boosts learning motivation and student participation in the learning process. The study recommends integrating Arabic-language digital news media as an alternative learning resource in graduate-level Arabic language education.
