Abstract

Preparation of Na / SBA-15 from corn leaves ash (Zea mays) as a substitute for TEOS (Tetraethyl Orthosilicate) applied as a heterogeneous catalyst in the transesterification reaction of used palm oil and methanol has been performed. The preparation of SBA-15 was conducted by surfactant template method and modification with Na was conducted by impregnation method. SBA-15 from corn leaves ash has a pore size ranging from 4.9 nm to 9.3 nm, a surface area of ​​595 m2/ g, a pore diameter of 3.95 nm and a pore volume of 0.99 cm3/ g. The yeild obtained from the first transesterification process was 96.46% with the free fatty acid content of the product 0.16 mg KOH/ g. The two most prominent methyl ester based on the chromatogram of the transesterification product, the two most prominent methyl ester in the product were methyl palmitate (36,32%) and methyl oleat (36,15%). Abstract

Antibacterial tests of Ag/SBA-15 from petung bamboo leaf ash against Escherichia coli were carried out. Modification of SBA-15 with Ag was conducted using the wet impregnation method while the antibacterial test was carried out by well diffusion method and disc diffusion method with various concentrations of Ag/SBA-15. The Ag/SBA-15 has a surface area of ​​143 m2/g, pore diameter of 8.4 nm and pore volume of 0.35 cm3/g. The SAXS pattern of Ag /SBA-15 showed 3 typical SBA-15 peaks in the 0o -2o 2θ range with the miller index [100], [110] and [200], indicating modification with Ag did not change the hexagonal structure of SBA-15. Ag / SBA-15 material has the potential as an antibacterial agent for Escherichia coli; the inhibitory zone diameters for the well diffusion method and disc diffusion method were 7.00 ± 0.57 mm and 13.16 ± 0.16 mm, respectively. Increasing the concentration of Ag/SBA-15 samples resulted in greater inhibitory zone diameters for the bacteria.

Abstract

The synthesis and characterization of mesoporous silica Santa Barbara Acid-15 (SBA-15) from the ash of corn have been done. SBA-15 was synthesised using the surfactant template method. SBA-15 from corn leaves ash has a surface area of 592 m2 / gram, pore volume of 0.99 cm3 / gram and pore diameter of 3.95 nm with pore size ranging from 4.9 nm - 7.1 nm. The SAXS pattern of the bio-SBA-15 showed three typical peaks of SBA-15 with miller indices [100], [110] and [200]. In the FTIR spectrum of SBA-15, peaks from Si-O-Si, Si-OH and H-O-H from water were observed.

Abstract

Mata pelajaran kimia merupakan mata pelajaran di tingkat sekolah menengah atas yang sering dianggap sulit dipahami oleh siswa. Tantangan yang sering dihadapi oleh sebagian guru kimia di tingkat Sekolah Menengah Atas (SMA) di kota Samarinda adalah meningkatkan minat dan motivasi siswa untuk belajar kimia dan memahami konsep-konsep dalam kimia yang sebagian bersifat abstrak. Pemakaian media pembelajaran dalam pengajaran kimia menjadi salah satu solusi untuk membantu guru meningkatkan sifat positif siswa terhadap mata pelajaran. Untuk itu diperlukan pelatihan penggunaan media pembelajaran kimia interaktif agar suasana belajar yang menyenangkan dapat tercipta. Tujuan kegiatan pengabdian masyarakat ini adalah meningkatkan pemahaman guru kimia di kota Samarinda akan pentingnya penggunaan media pembelajaran. Selain itu kegiatan ini bertujuan untuk memberikan pelatihan penggunaan media pembelajaran kimia berupa chemistry board games. Tiga media pembelajaran yang digunakan adalah chemipoly (monopoli kimia), ular tangga kimia dan kartu unsur. Metode yang digunakan dalam pengabdian ini berupa training/pelatihan kepada guru-guru SMA tentang penggunaan chemistry board games dalam pengajaran kimia kepada siswa. Hasil yang diperoleh pada pelatihan ini adalah meningkatnya pemahaman guru kimia akan pentingnya media pembelajaran dalam kelas dan meningkatnya pemahaman dan kemampuan guru dalam menggunakan tiga media pembelajaran dalam pengajaran kimia, khususnya pada materi tabel periodik unsur dan sifat fisik dan kimia unsur-unsur kimia. Penggunaan media pembelajaran kimia mampu meningkatkan minat dan motivasi siswa SMA di kota Samarinda yang mengikuti pelatihan ini.

Abstract

ABSTRACT Synthesis of silica gel from chitosan-modified rice husk ash and its application as an adsorbent of methylene blue have been studied. The stages of this research included the preparation of rice husk samples, the synthesis of silica ash of rice husks, sodium silicate, chitosan solution, and synthesis of silica gel - chitosan - tripolyphosphate, and the characterization of silica gel material from chitosan-modified rice husk ash. The results showed that silica gel adsoerben from chitosan modified rice husk ash was able to adsorb methylene blue dyes with an optimum pH of 5, optimum contact time for 60 minutes and adsorption capacity of 16.4554 mg/g. Abstract

Py-GC/MS analysis of six different species of fast growing Macaranga wood has been studied. Flash pyrolysis was conducted at different temperatures (250-850 oC) under a flow of helium followed by GC/MS analysis of the products. The total pyrolysis yields of the six different species of Macaranga were mostly between 40 and 90% within the range of pyrolysis temperature applied.  Pyrolysis of the woody biomass produced compounds which are mostly derived from thermal degradation or volatilization of lignin and cellulose/hemicellulose, the original major constituents of the biomass. The Py-GC/MS technique indicated that M. gigantea was the most potential species for biofuel production and the optimum pyrolysis temperature to produce high yields of bio-oil was 450 oC.

Abstract

Penggunaan media pembelajaran yang tepat dapat membantu guru kimia dalam menjelaskan konsep dan teori dalam ilmu kimia yang seringkali bersifat abstrak. Tim Qmiaku, Jurusan Kimia, FMIPA, Universitas Mulawarman mengembangkan Kit Detektif Kimia sebagai media pembelajaran baru, di mana siswa bermain peran sebagai detektif kimia. Pelatihan penggunaan Kit Detektif Kimia selanjutnya dilakukan dengan melibatkan mitra guru kimia di SMA, MA, dan SMK di Provinsi Kalimantan Timur. Kegiatan pengabdian masyarakat ini diberikan dengan metode pengenalan media pembelajaran, serta pelatihan dan pendampingan guru dalam menggunakan enam set percobaan pada Kit Detektif Kimia dengan materi asam basa, metode pemisahan sederhana, koloid, larutan dan suspensi, reaksi kimia, korosi, dan analisis kandungan bahan makanan sederhana. Berdasarkan hasil wawancara dan kuisioner yang diberikan, pelatihan ini mampu meningkatkan pemahaman dan kemampuan para guru dalam penggunaan Kit Detektif Kimia melalui penyampaian materi, diskusi/tanya jawab panduan penggunaan media yang mudah dipahami, dan pendampingan dari fasilitator pada praktik penggunaan media pembelajaran.

Abstract

Penelitian tentang ekstraksi ion logam kadmium Cd2+ dengan teknik emulsi membran cair telah dilakukan. Penelitian ini dilakukan secara eksperimental di laboratorium menggunakan ditizon sebagai zat pembawa, span-80 sebagai surfaktan, parafin cair sebagai fase membran, larutan HNO3 sebagai fase internal dan larutan kadmium 20 ppm sebagai larutan sampel. Tujuan penelitian ini adalah untuk menentukan kondisi optimum ion logam Cd2+ yang meliputi pH fase eksternal, konsentrasi fase internal, konsentrasi surfaktan, waktu ekstraksi konsentrasi ion logam Cd2+ yang dapat diekstraksi menggunakan teknik emulsi membran cair. Penentuan konsentrasi sisa ion logam kadmium hasil ekstraksi menggunakan alat Spektrofotometer UV-Vis pada panjang gelombang 518 nm. Kondisi optimum untuk mengekstraksi ion logam Cd2+ menggunakan teknik emulsi membran cair pada penelitian ini adalah pH fase eksternal 7, konsentrasi fase internal 1 M, konsentrasi surfaktan 3,5% dan waktu ekstraksi 15 menit. Pada kondisi optimum tersebut konsentrasi ion logam kadmium yang dapat diekstraksi mencapai 100 ppm dengan nilai persen ekstraksi 77,574%.
