Abstract

This research is motivated by the use of e-cigarettes in Indonesia. E-cigarettes contain substances that are harmful to the body, but recently there has been information about e-cigarettes being 95% safer than conventional cigarettes and the lack of public knowledge about e-cigarettes. This study aims to determine the relationship between exposure to information that e-cigarettes are 95% safer than conventional cigarettes and the level of knowledge about e-cigarettes and interest in using e-cigarettes. The theory used in this research is the theory of Diffusion of Innovation and the theory of Cognitive Response. The sample in this study found 100 people with an age range of 18 – 39 years who had been exposed to information that e-cigarettes were safer than conventional cigarettes and knew that e-cigarettes were. This sample uses non-probability sampling with a random sampling technique. The results showed that exposure to information on electric cigarettes was 95% safer than conventional cigarettes with an interest in using e-cigarettes had a significance value of 0.004 which exceeded the significance value of 0.01 which means that there is a very significant relationship, the correlation coefficient of 0.234 means that it has a weak and weak relationship strength. So that if the exposure to information about e-cigarettes is 95% safer, then the interest in using e-cigarettes is also high. The results of the research on the level of knowledge about e-cigarettes with interest in using e-cigarettes have a significant value of 0.026 which means a significant relationship, a correlation coefficient of 0.169 means that the strength of the relationship is very weak and positive. So if the level of knowledge about e-cigarettes is high, the interest in using e-cigarettes is also high. Therefore, researchers suggest to multiply clear information about e-cigarettes so that people do not experience confusion and marketers are more aggressive in promoting e-cigarettes so that people are more aware of the presence of e-cigarettes.

Abstract

The coronavirus disease or Covid-19 has contributed to the large disruption in all aspects of life, including the sports sector, specifically football. In an effort to reduce the spread of the virus, various global soccer matches or trainings had to be postponed. Moreover, communication in the football sector must also be limited due to the Covid-19 pandemic, as in Indonesian football organizations, particularly PSIS Semarang. This research was intended to describe the communication climate of the PSIS Semarang organization during the Covid-19 pandemic. This research was classified as a qualitative descriptive research. The data of this research were successfully obtained by means of interviews with seven members of PSIS Semarang who were involved as informants. The results showed that the communication pattern used in PSIS Semarang was a bottom-up pattern with a positive communication climate accompanied by a sense of kinship. The communication climate in PSIS Semarang during the Covid-19 pandemic was a good and positive climate by members of the organization because of their mutual respect, motivation, and encouragement for organizational members to be better. The existence of a good communication climate makes members of the organization feel comfortable and form good interactions with fellow members of the organization. Barriers to organizational communication at PSIS Semarang during the Covid-19 pandemic included the lack of communication intensity, the emergence of misunderstandings, and network constraints.

Abstract

LINE Webtoon carries out various promotions to promote its products and with a fairly frequent intensity, one of the promotions includes event marketing and organic product Ads on Instagram. When compared to U.S and Taiwan webtoons, the events they do are not more frequent and not more numerous than those held in Indonesia. Furthermore, U.S and Taiwan webtoons also very rarely advertise their comic products organically on Instagram accounts. However, in reality, the number of paid episode readers on LINE Webtoon Indonesia is unstable when compared to other countries, the U.S. and Taiwan webtoons have more stable paid episode readers. This study aims to determine the effectiveness of the intensity of LINE Webtoon's marketing events and exposure to product advertisements on the @linewebtoon.id Instagram account in the decision to purchase coins on LINE Webtoon. The theory used in this research is the Elaboration Likelihood Model and Strong Advertising Theory. To determine the sample, this study uses a non-probability sampling technique. The sample consisted of 50 females and males, aged 18-25 years who used LINE Webtoon, followed the @linewebtoon.id Instagram account, and purchased coins on LINE Webtoon in the last 6 months. The results show that the effectiveness of event marketing intensity in purchasing decisions has a significance value of 0.015 which can be interpreted as significant, a correlation coefficient of 0.251 which means that it has a weak closeness and this correlation test has a positive relationship direction. Furthermore, the effectiveness of product advertising exposure in purchasing decisions has a significance value of 0.440 which can be interpreted as insignificant

Abstract

There are many things that can be used as a medium for preaching, one of which is preaching through Muslim wedding clothing. Unfortunately, currently there are many models of Muslim wedding dresses that have come out of their essence, thus obscuring the values and mission of da'wah. The existence of Muslim wedding dresses that are not in accordance with the Shari'ah are trying to be minimized by Muslim designers, they are trying to present and reintroduce Muslim wedding dresses that are in accordance with Islamic rules. This study aims to determine the use of Muslim wedding attire as a medium of da'wah communication and to examine the meaning of the use of Muslim wedding attire. This research is a qualitative research that uses non-verbal theory and cultural hermeneutic theory with a phenomenological approach. The data collection method used was in-depth interviews, with a total of 4 informants. Based on the results of the study, it was found that (1) Muslim wedding dress is a wedding dress whose model is adapted to the dress code in the Qur'an and Sunnah. With the criteria of a loose dress, not tight, not wasting material, not using excessive accessories, and wearing a long hijab that covers the chest. This is what distinguishes it from ordinary Muslim wedding dresses in general. (2) The non-verbal message contained in the Muslim wedding dress implies that a woman who wears a syar'i dress in her marriage is a woman who is obedient to her religious orders, a woman who is closed, always takes care of herself, and tries to get the title of a pious woman. (3) The more obedient a person carries out religious orders, especially in wearing clothes according to the rules they have, the more visible the quality of that person's religion will be. (4) Muslim bridal clothing can be used as a medium of da'wah communication. Da'wah with the media of Muslim bridal clothing is included in the da'wah bil haal, namely preaching through morals, namely exemplifying good behavior to someone. Its existence is often the center of public attention and is used in front of many audiences, making it easier to carry out da'wah missions to introduce Muslim wedding dress models to the public

Abstract

K-Pop fandom, especially the Indonesian ARMY fandom, is known as a network that is quite barbaric and destructive. They often show their behavior that often posts with negative words if someone has a problem with their idol or fandom. This study aims to find out what themes are displayed by fans to criticize the issue of the Job Creation Bill, how the fandom process responds to or criticizes the issue of the Job Creation Bill, as well as knowing the process or way they gather power in responding to the issue (resistance). The method used is descriptive qualitative with an interpretive approach. The theory used in this research is the theory of digital activism and participatory culture. The data obtained using the interview method with several informants and observations made online. The theme formed by the ARMY fandom to criticize the issue of the Job Creation Bill is on digital activism: activism planning, mass mobilization on Twitter, and the process of forming public opinion. Themes in participatory culture include: message consumption, participation, and content production. This research shows that K-Pop ARMY fandom is not apolitical and cares about political issues in Indonesia. The use of theory in this study still needs to be studied more deeply by further studies so as to get more varied results. The solidarity factor and the wealth of knowledge are important factors in the digital activism of a fandom.

Abstract

Disclosing about the status of PLWHs needs to be done to get support in order to survive. There is a lot of bad stigma about HIV/AIDS, causing PLWHs to feel anxious about revealing their status. The family has a function as a protector and supporter of each member. Unfortunately, there are still many families who cannot accept the existence of PLWHs so that it can strain the relationship between them. In disclosing or concealing their status, PLWHs need to consider several criteria and strategies to gain acceptance from their families. This study aims to determine the strategies used by PLWHs in revealing or hiding their status and gaining acceptance from their families and the obstacles they experience. This study uses Privacy Communication Management theory by Sandra Petonio and Social Penetration theory by Irwin Altman & Dalmas Taylor as a theoretical framework. This study uses qualitative content analysis with a phenomenological approach. The data collection method used was in-depth interview, with a total of 3 informants who were PLWHs in Semarang who had already made disclosures and had good relations with their families. The results showed that there were several criteria and strategies used in revealing and hiding status and obtaining acceptance from the family. The criteria used are gender, culture, contextual, motivation, and risk-benefit. The strategies used are selecting people and sharing information, shifting the topic of discussion, providing education, and arguing. Different criteria and strategies are used according to the relationship between PLWHs and each family member. In addition, some informants managed to go through all stages of social penetration, where openness and acceptance from the family can create a closer/intimate relationship.

Abstract

The increasing development of online transactions has led to various digital wallet service applications currently aiming to provide convenience for users in conducting various payment transactions. This study was conducted with the aim of knowing how much influence OVO cashback promotion and peer group communication intensity had on the interest in using OVO. Competition that occurs between e-wallets at this time makes various companies engaged in digital wallets vying to provide the best innovations for their users. In this case, OVO as one of the most widely known as a digital wallet by society also strives to provide attractive services, features, and promotional offers to encourage people to use their service. The theory used in this study is Cognitive Response and Reference Group with a sampling technique in the form of non-probability sampling, with a total sample of 50 people, male and female, aged 18-35 years, and has been exposed with OVO cashback promotions in the last three months. The results of hypothesis, tested by using a simple linear regression technique show that there is an influence between OVO cashback promotion and the intensity of peer group communication to having an interest in using OVO, with a significance value of 0.000 for both hypothesis, which means it is very significant.

Abstract

Long Distance Relationship LDR is described as a form of long-distance romantic relationship, where two individuals are physically separated due to distance (proximity) or geography so that physical contact is limited. In the process, long-distance couples certainly cannot freely meet and express their feelings for each other. In fact, long-distance couples have more complex problems than close-distance courtships, because the greater the distance, the greater the obstacles and challenges that will be faced, especially sailors and students. Therefore, this study describes how a person who works as a Sailor maintains interpersonal communication in a LDR relationship with students and maintains relationships up to the marriage level. In this study, the theory used is the theory of relational maintenance and self-disclosure. The subjects in this study were sailors and students. The writing of this study used qualitative methods with data collection using interviews. The data is then grouped, analyzed using a descriptive phenomenological approach (PFD) and triangulated as a form of data verification. The results of this study indicate that the LDR maintenance process includes intimate relationships between male and female partners by establishing intense communication, then non-intimate relationships which include closeness to the spouse's family and financial distribution. Financial distribution is believed to be a reason to be able to maintain because with the form of financial distribution, the female partner also considers that the commitment undertaken by the male partner is very good and has a high responsibility. In addition, with the financial distribution, the men feel they can bind the female partner to stay committed. These two components will provide a form of influence on a sense of trust, comfort and mutual understanding as well as support from the family which is more important and make the relationship last, so that a perception emerges from them to make a good commitment in maintaining the relationship. The existence of another form of relationship maintenance can be established by having a positive element which means behaving pleasantly and not criticizing. In addition, there is also a need for openness, especially in undergoing a long distance relationship

Abstract

The relationship between in-laws and in-laws that exist consists of various kinds, namely conflict-filled relationships or harmonious relationships, especially if they both live under the same roof. This study aims to determine the correlation between the daughter/son-in-law's selfconcept and the daughter/son-in-law’s self-disclosure with the level of interpersonal conflict of mother/father in-laws who lived together. This research used Looking Glass Self Theory and Social Penetration Theory. This study used a sample of 100 people who in age from 19- 35 years old who are married and live with in-laws. This sample method used non-probability sampling with accidental techniques. The results showed the daughter/son-in-law's self-concept with the level of interpersonal conflict of mother/father in-laws who live together has a significance value of 0.000 ≤ 0.01, which means that there is a very significant correlation. This shows that Looking Glass Self theory can be applied in this study. The correlation coefficient is -0.558 means that it has a strong and negative level of correlation. This shows a negative correlation if the son-in-law's self-concept is low, the level of interpersonal conflict of mother/father in-laws who live together increases. While the daughter/son-in-law's self-disclosure with the level of interpersonal conflict of mother/father in-laws who lived together have a significant value of 0.000 ≤ 0.001, which means there is a very significant relationship. This shows that Social Penetration Theory can be applied in this study. The correlation coefficient is -0.553, which means it has a strong and negative level of correlation. This shows a negative correlation if the daughter/son-in-law's self-disclosure is low, the level of interpersonal conflict of mother/father in-laws who lived together increases. Likewise, vice versa. Therefore, the daughter/son-in-law should improve their self-concept and self-disclosure so that the level of interpersonal conflict of mother/father in-laws who lived with them decreases. It is recommended for further research to review other variables of the in-laws relationship.

Abstract

The rapid development of K-Pop is shown by the increasing number of fans in the K-Pop 4th generation’s fandom especially STAY, ATINY, and MOA with the strength within three fandoms shown by the solidarity of fans in carrying out activities in support of their idols on Twitter and participate in social activities. The sense of kinship in the fandom is also felt by supporting and encouraging each other. However, fandoms are often involved in fanwars or fights between fandoms by insinuating, berating, and bullying other fans and their idols. This study aims to see themes displayed by fans in responding to fanwars on Twitter and to find out how the dynamics of group communication in STAY, ATINY, and MOA in responding to fanwars on Twitter. The method used is descriptive qualitative with an interpretive approach. The theories used in this research include the theory of group communication dynamics and participatory culture. The data obtained using the interview method with several informants and observations made online. The themes found within three fandom in responding to fanwars on Twitter is on the dynamics of group communication: interaction analysis, direction of communication, and communication networks. The themes in participatory culture include: message consumption and participation. This research shows that in the STAY, ATINY, and MOA fandoms there are several types of fans based on their responses and participation in fanwars with the direction of communication between each fan running in two directions and the communication network they have is a chain pattern and all channel pattern. They also use social media, especially Twitter, to the maximum extent, as a platform for their activities as fans specifically to dig up information about the fanwars that occurred.
