Abstract

The elastic properties measurement of materials is important to determine their potential application in industries. Hence, the effect of frequency on the elastic properties is crucial in estimating the material's behavior with the change of frequency. Thus, this study was conducted to determine the effect of frequency on the elastic properties of materials. Five parameters of elastic materials were found in this study: bulk modulus, shear modulus, longitudinal modulus, Young's modulus, and lame constant. The elastic properties of three samples; stainless steel, aluminium and PMMA were measured for 2.25 MHz, 5 MHz and 10 MHz frequency. The method used is non-destructive testing using pulse-echo ultrasound techniques. The findings indicated that the longitudinal modulus, Young's modulus, shear modulus, bulk modulus, and lame constant of all samples are constant as the frequency increased from 2.25 MHz to 10 MHz. In conclusion, the elastic properties of a material are independent to the change of frequency.

Abstract

Penelitian ini bertujuan untuk mengembangkan sistem karakterisasi material terkomputerisasi untuk mengukur sifat material pada material berpori menggunakan teknik perendaman pulsa-gema. Sistem antar muka grafis yang dikembangkan menyediakan platform yang mudah digunakan yang terdiri atas akuisisi sinyal, grafik sinyal, parameter input dan sifat material. Sistem ini digunakan untuk menentukan sifat akustik (kecepatan longitudinal dan impedansi akustik) dan sifat elastis (modulus Young, modulus geser, modulus bulk, modulus longitudinal dan konstanta Lamé). Sampel yang digunakan berupa PMMA yang terdiri atas sampel tidak berpori dan sampel berpori. Sistem ini divalidasi menggunakan sampel yang tidak berpori. Persentase kesalahan pengukuran sistem adalah 8,36% dibandingkan dengan nilai referensi, yang menunjukkan tingkat akurasi yang wajar. Hasil penelitian menunjukkan bahwa sampel yang tidak berpori secara umum menunjukkan sifat akustik dan sifat elastis yang lebih tinggi daripada sampel yang berpori. Kemampuan sistem untuk menentukan sifat material secara akurat dengan persentase kesalahan yang dapat diterima menunjukkan bahwa sistem ini dapat menjadi alat yang berharga dalam pengujian material dan aplikasi kontrol kualitas.

Abstract

Research has been carried out to determine material properties using ultrasonic waves. The aim of the research is to see the effect of variations in ultrasonic transducer frequency on material properties, material mechanical properties and material acoustic properties. The ultrasonic technique used is based on the pulse echo technique. The samples used were steel with a thickness of 2.5 cm, aluminum with a thickness of 2 cm and 1.8 cm and PMMA with a thickness of 1.5 cm, 1 cm and 0.2 cm. There are three variations of transducer frequency used, namely 2.25 MHz, 5 MHz and 10 MHz. The mechanical property of the material that will be determined is the elastic modulus. The acoustic properties of the material to be determined are longitudinal velocity, attenuation coefficient and acoustic impedance. The results showed that variations in transducer frequency did not affect the values of elastic modulus, longitudinal velocity and acoustic impedance. However, the use of transducer frequency variations affects the attenuation coefficient value.

Abstract

There is no learning media yet except experiment modul on experiment subject that cause the lack on students science process skill. As a result, it encouraged researcher to do research developmet about learning media i.e tutorial video. The objective of this reseach is to know practicality of tutorial video of experiment physics subject to increase science proccess skill of the student. This research is research and developmen research. The result of video tutorial had been validated and then tested to the student of physics education 7th semester of IAIN Batusangkar. Based on questionnaire, it showed that tutorial video of experiment physics subject for increasing students’ science process skill is very practically used.Belum adanya media pembelajaran selain modul praktikum cetak pada mata kuliah eksperimen fisika menyebabkan kurangnya keterampilan proses sains mahasiswa. Hal ini mendorong peneliti untuk melakukan sebuah pengembangan media pembelajaran berupa video tutorial pada mata kuliah eksperimen fisika. Tujuan penelitian ini adalah untuk mengetahui praktikalitas dari video tutorial pada mata kuliah eksperimen fisika untuk meningkatkan keterampilan proses sains mahasiswa. Jenis penelitian ini adalah penelitian pengembangan (research and development). Hasil video tutorial yang telah divalidasi dilakukan uji coba terbatas kepada mahasiswa semester VII Jurusan pendidikan Fisika IAIN Batusangkar. Berdasarkan hasil angket respon juga diketahui bahwa video tutorial pada mata kuliah eksperimen fisika untuk meningkatkan keterampilan proses sains mahasiswa sangat praktis digunakan.
