Abstract

The coral reefs in Inner Ambon Bay are in the bad category or can even be said to be almost gone where the percentage of coral cover is very small. Efforts to deal with damage to coral reefs have been carried out through rehabilitation programs in Ambon Bay. One of the recommendations given through this program is the need for the participation of coastal communities near the coral transplantation site. It is expected that a good / positive community perception of the existence of coral reefs will encourage the community to participate in efforts to repair damaged coral reefs. For this reason, this research aims to assess public perceptions of damage to coral reefs in Inner Ambon Bay. The survey method was conducted on 318 samples of household heads for primary data collection using a Likert scale questionnaire. The data is analyzed qualitatively and quantitatively. The results showed that people's perception of coral reefs in Inner Ambon Bay was "know". This means that people have knowledge about coral reefs, the benefits of coral reefs, and damage to coral reefs. For this reason, local governments need to manage coral reefs at Inner Ambon Bay in collaboration with local communities, through the establishment of coral reef management institutions at the village level or to utilize coastal and marine management institutions or Kewang institutions in Poka Village, Hunuth Village, and Halong Village to conduct various coral reef rehabilitation program activities.

Abstract

The Matakus Beach is located in the Village of Matakus, South Tanimbar Subdistrict, Tanimbar Islands Regency (KKT), Maluku Province. This beach is situated on a small island with a total area of about 474 hectares and a circumference of 9,972 meters. Consequently, Matakus Island has promising prospects for development into an island tourism destination, necessitating an economic valuation. This research aims to determine the influence of travel costs to Matakus Beach on the interest to revisit, analyze the factors affecting the number of visits to Matakus Beach, and assess the economic value of Matakus Beach tourism. The basic research methods employed include survey, literature review methods and the data analysis is quantitative. The research findings indicate that the general characteristics of respondents show that tourists are predominantly aged 27-36 year with an average income of Rp 4.08 million per month. The results show travel costs amounting to Rp 32,615,000 per month. The analysis indicates that the variable with a significant relationship to the number of tourist visits is the travel cost variable, with a significance value of 0.004 smaller than 0.05 (0.004 <0.05), meaning that the number of tourist visits is mutually influenced by travel costs. The coefficient of determination (R²) is 0.624, indicating an independent variability of 62.4%. The economic value of Matakus Beach tourism is calculated at Rp 178,412,140 per month.

Abstract

In mid-2022, there was damage to mangroves in Poka Village, precisely in front of the PT State Electricity Company (PT PLN) Diesel Power Plant (PLTD-Poka), allegedly due to accidental exposure to waste due to pipe leaks during bridge construction activities. If you look closely, the mangrove damage that occurs on the coast in front of the PLTD-Poka is not only caused by waste but also by community rubbish. Making coastal communities in Poka Village the driving force for mangrove conservation raises the question, namely, what is the current attitude of coastal communities in Poka Village towards mangrove damage? One component of attitude that is interesting to study is perception. Based on this, it is important to conduct research on coastal communities' perceptions of mangrove damage in Poka Village, Ambon. This research method is a case study, a sample of 61 people are heads of families in coastal communities around the mangrove damaged area in Poka Village which was determined using the Isaac and Michael equation and taken using simple random sampling. Data obtained through primary and secondary data collection were analyzed using a Likert scale approach. The five scale scores were analyzed by modifying the value equation, mean, interval and indicator index criteria for the question instrument. The results of the research show that the perception of coastal communities in Poka Village regarding mangrove damage is knowing or positive. This perception is formed from: sight (knowing about the existence of mangroves), feeling (feeling the benefits of mangroves indirectly), and utilization (using mangrove resources directly).
