Abstract

The studies of cultural revitalization, local wisdom, and social security are often separated and seems unconneted. This article aims at connecting these domains through ethnographic research and document analysis of the phenomena in revitalization of local wisdom called bari to strengthen the social security of the poor in North Maluku. Revitalization activies like raising funds from public not from government budget to build hundreds of decent housing for the poor is interesting issue to study. The three main concerns of this article are socio-cultural factors that encourage the birth of this movement, the activities and achievements of these revitalization movements, and the typical characteristics of local wisdom as a result of revitalization that distinguishes it from its original form. The findings presented in this article can contribute to academic discourse in the domains of local wisdom, cultural revitalization, and social security. The more important of this finding is to construct arguments about the existence of a bridge between local wisdom, revitalization, and social security.

Abstract

Abstract

Abstract

INTRODUCTIONIn one of the discussions I was given the theme: "Rediscovering the Source of Goodness in Indigenous People's Life of North Maluku". This topic contains two impressions at once. First, we seem to have lost the best in custom that needs to be rediscovered. Secondly, the goodness of the custom, commonly called local wisdom, is seen as a very important aspect that must be rediscovered. The main concern then is this on both impressions.Referring to the above topics, particularly the implications of the second aspect, this paper will perform two tasks. Firstly, this paper attempts to rediscover the wisdom of indigenous people of North Maluku with reference to studies of mapping of cultural values that have already existed. Secondly, in addition, this article attempts to present a critical attitude to the claim of goodness in local wisdom in order that promoted local wisdom is not trapped in local indifference and does not contradict "national wisdom". Both these attitudes, finding and responding to local wisdom critically, need to be our cultural agenda in North Maluku if social harmony is seen as important for the future of society in the region.

Abstract

Violence in schools is increasingly reported by the mass media. It indicates that its prevalence is escalating. An instrument which has a proper psychometric property is needed to investigate the phenomenon. The study aims to develop an instrument for measuring physical abuse experienced by students in schools and explore the construct of the instrument. To pursue those objectives, the content validitity, construct validity, and reliability analysis on the developed instrument were measured. Its content validity was confirmed through expert judgment, construct validity was proven through exploratory factor analysis, and reliability was estimated through Cronbach’s alpha coefficient. Experts considered that the content of all items were relevant, though they also suggested some improvement in wordings for greater clarity. The exploratory factor analysis on 31 items indicates that seven items need to be dropped and 24 items are divided into three factors called (1) victimized by friends with the loading factor ranging from 0.44 to 0.69, (2) victimizing friends with the loading factor ranging from 0.45 to 0.66, and (3) being victimized by teachers with the loading factor ranging from 0.57 to 0.68. The reliability of the test was 0.874. Based on this result, the developed instruments consist of three factors with good validity and reliability.

Abstract

Many studies on the Covid-19 pandemic have explored various socio-cultural aspects related to this pandemic. Choosing a locus on Makean Island, this article focused on the responses of young villagers in Makean to the Covid-19 pandemic. The concept of response used in this article refers to the perspectives of environmental anthropology and psychological anthropology, namely the human response to external stimuli. In this context of study, we examined the responses of Makean Island youths to external stimuli, namely the COVID-19 pandemic and policies related to the pandemic. Using a combination of quantitative survey and qualitative ethnographic procedures, this study found several forms of responses to the COVID-19 pandemic. The responses we found were mainly in the area of ??seeking information about this pandemic: the level of trust in the existence of Covid-19, the perception of the risk of contracting Covid for both oneself and community, and the responses to pandemic mitigation policies, especially related to Covid-19 vaccinations. Another important finding is that although many Makean youths consider Covid-19 as dangerous, and they are at risk of contracting it, most of them do not view vaccination as the best preventive measure and therefore plan to take other preventive measures. This can be interpreted as a form of soft resistance to government policies that require all citizens to get vaccinated against Covid-19.
