Abstract

The aim of this study was to get information about the relation of frequency of teeth brush to oral hygiene of elementary school children in Palaran Samarinda. The samples were 1650 first to sixth grade elementary school children taken from 10 state elementary schools at Palaran Samarinda. Oral hygiene was measured by OHI-S index, and frequency of teeth brush was measured by questionnaire. Statistical analysis was performed with chi-square test. The results showed that 6.73% have good oral hygiene, 59.03 % moderate and 34.24% poor. The frequency of teeth brush showed that 18% at 1x, 34.24 % at 2x, 61.88 % at 3x; 1.70% at 4x. With statistical analysis showed that there were relation of frequency of teeth brush to oral hygiene school children (X2 = 98.5, df = 6 and p = 12.59. This study concluded that oral health knowledge and exercise become successful in children from state elementary school at Palaran.

Abstract

Dental plaque is a colorless thin layer, is not easily visible on the tooth surface and it causes caries. Disclosing solution is the material that can help us to see dental plaque. Chemical disclosing solution, which now exists, has several disadvantages so we need to develop natural disclosing solution. One of the ingredients in natural disclosing solution that has been studied for its effect is betacyanin, which is contained in super-red dragon fruit (Hylocereus costaricensis). This study aim to observe the coloring effect of super-red dragon fruit juice. The experimental was conducted by measuring plaque index of 20 people, who were not to clean their teeth for 24 hours (two periods), and were eaten the same foods in each period. Examination of plaque index at the end of the first period used chemical disclosing solution contains of erythrosine (FDC Red #3) and the second period used super-red dragon fruit juice. The datas were analyzed by Paired T-test. The results of the plaque index score at the first (2.47815 ± 0.811497), the second (2.7731 ± 1.0512) and did not find a significant difference (p > 0.05). The ability of super-red dragon fruit to coloring dental plaque has no difference with chemical disclosing solution, so it can be used as a natural disclosing solution.

Abstract

BACKGROUND: Indonesia's tropical forest is home to around 80% of the world's medicinal plants. One of these is Zingiber purpureum, which have traditionally been used to treat joint discomfort, the common cold, and jaundice. The rhizomes of this plant have been suggested to possess antibacterial action in the treatment of infections. In this study, Z. purpureum was screened for antibacterial activity against 13 bacteria (Gram-positive and Gram-negative).METHODS: Z. purpureum rhizomes were obtained and the distillated extracts were made to generate essential oil. The minimum inhibitory concentration (MIC) and Kirby Bauer disk diffusion methods were used to determine the antibacterial activity.RESULTS: All bacteria activity were inhibited by the essential oil of Z. purpureum at concentrations ranging from 2.5 vol% to 10 vol%. However, several bacterias (Escherichia coli, Pseudomonas aeruginosa, and Enterobacter cloacae) were inhibited at the lowest concentration (0.63 vol %), with the inhibition zones ranging from 6.7 mm to 8.0 mm. Meanwhile, the widest inhibition zone (13.3 mm) was reported on E. cloacae at 10 vol% concentration.CONCLUSION: A 10 vol% Z. purpureum rhizome extract inhibits Gram-positive and Gram-negative bacteria, particularly those that are resistant to a variety of antibiotics.KEYWORDS: Zingiber purpureum, antibacterial agents, susceptibility test, infection

Abstract

The material that used to bone replacement is much needed. In the beginning, the material of bone replacement came from human or animal bones, but now, the development of synthetic materials as the bone replacement from natural materials increase very fast. The Aim of this study was synthesizing bone graft composite derived from hydroxyapatite and cellulose of nata de coco (HAP/cellulose nata de coco) which tested porosity, density, and water absorption and we expected the porosity, density, and water of the composite were approaching to human or animal bones. Based on statistical analysis by Kruskal Walis (p <0,05) and AUC showed HAp/cellulose of nata de coco with 25 hours precipitation time having bony-like human porosity and there were correlation between porosity and density with water absorption capacity of HAp / cellulose nata de coco our by linear correlation statistical analysis. Keywords: Hydroxyapatite, Cellulose nata de coco, Porosity, Density, Water absorption

Abstract

Doctors who adhere to professional standards, service standards, and standard operating procedures can generally expect legal protection in their medical practice. Following established protocols and guidelines helps ensure that doctors provide care within accepted norms, reducing the likelihood of malpractice allegations. This is a literature review study that analyzed the literature related to the malpractice law. The initial involved searching various databases, including MEDLINE via PubMed, Scopus, and Web of Science from April to May,2023. This search was performed using specific terms, namely doctor, dentist, malpractice, and Indonesian laws. The literature search yielded a total 153 citation (Fig. 1). Upon completion of title and abstract screening, 75 full-texts were deemed potentially relevant and reviewed. Subsequently, 21 documents fulfilled our eligibility criteria and were included. The Medical Council of Indonesia (MKDKI) has the authority to examine complaints related to the discipline of doctors and dentists and determine whether any mistakes were made in the application of medical and dental disciplines. The decisions made by MKDKI can have implications for the professional standing and disciplinary actions against doctors.

Abstract

Povidone iodine is an antiseptic that is often used for wounds after tooth extraction, but is often debated because it can cause damage to cells and tissues. African leaf (Vernonia amygdalina Del.) from the family Asteraceae has saponins as anti-microbial, anti-inflammatory and antioxidant flavonoids as that all may be able to accelerate wound healing. To investigate the activity of extracts of Vernonia amygdalina folia (VAF) to accelerate the process of wound healing after tooth extraction in rats. VAF extracted by maceration using methanol. Wistar male rats as much as 6 groups (n = 5 mice each group) performed tooth extractions, and then observed the reduction of gingival socket closure for 21 days after being given povidone iodine, distilled water and methanol extract group VAF by 4 concentration. The closure of the wound after tooth extraction in the group of povidone iodine rats occurred on the 8th day, the group aquadest cover the wound occurred on the 12th day, the extract group 1, 3, 5, 7% sequentially occur wound closure on day 6th, 5th, 4th and 4th. VAF methanol extract of the leaves can accelerate wound healing after tooth extraction of mice
