Abstract

Kemidi Rudat, a traditional Sasak theater from Lombok, functions as a nonformal educational medium that transmits cultural, moral, and religious values through performance. While its aesthetic and historical aspects have been previously studied, limited research has examined its pedagogical role amidst sociocultural change, particularly the interplay of conservative and liberal educational values. This study employs a qualitative case study approach at the Panca Pesona Art Studio, using participatory observation, in-depth interviews, and documentation. Data were analyzed through the Miles and Huberman interactive model to explore how nonformal learning practices within Kemidi Rudat integrate preservation and innovation. Findings show that conservative values emphasize authenticity, such as traditional language, music, and etiquette, promoting cultural identity and character education. Liberal values, meanwhile, allow for innovation through story adaptation, use of modern instruments, and inclusivity, making the art form more appealing to younger generations. The Panca Pesona Studio mediates these values through a hybrid pedagogical model that balances tradition with creativity. Rather than conflicting, conservative and liberal perspectives function complementarily—conservatism anchors authenticity, while liberalism ensures relevance and sustainability. This dialectical learning model supports the preservation of cultural heritage while adapting to contemporary challenges. The study offers practical implications for educators, policymakers, and cultural practitioners in strengthening community-based arts education.

Abstract

The coffee manten tradition is a form of local wisdom full of philosophical values, which is still preserved by the people of Modangan Village, Blitar Regency. The main problem in this research stems from the importance of exploring people's meaning of these traditions, more than just a physical inventory of ritual plants. The aim of this research is to describe the community's perspective on the coffee manten tradition and analyze the cultural representation of the accompanying ethnobotanical elements. Using descriptive qualitative methods, data collection was carried out comprehensively through triangulation techniques in the form of field observations, in-depth interviews and documentation studies. The results of the research show that the coffee manten tradition is seen not just as an agricultural ritual for welcoming the harvest, but as a social construction and cultural identity that binds society. The use of various types of plants as ubarampe is not only understood functionally, but is a symbolic medium that represents hope, unity and blessings for the people of Modangan Village. As a novelty, this study confirms that an ethnobotanical approach is essential not only for recording plant taxonomy, but is crucial for uncovering spiritual relationships and the construction of people's cultural identity in interpreting plants in their environment.

Abstract

This study is motivated by the declining ability of senior high school students, as representatives of Generation Z, to speak Javanese fluently and confidently due to globalization, the dominance of Indonesian and foreign languages, changing communication patterns, and the continued use of conventional teacher-centered learning methods. These conditions reduce students’ interest, participation, and confidence in using Javanese in both formal and informal communication. Therefore, innovative and interactive learning approaches are needed to support speaking competence while also contributing to regional language preservation. This study aims to analyze the implementation of the hypnoteaching model and its contribution to improving students’ Javanese speaking skills. The research employed a qualitative descriptive approach through literature review and document analysis using journal articles, educational documents, learning modules, and previous studies related to hypnoteaching and language learning as data sources. The data were analyzed using descriptive content analysis supported by thematic categorization and source triangulation to ensure validity. The findings indicate that hypnoteaching creates a supportive and psychologically conducive learning environment through stages such as intention and motivation, pacing, leading, positive words, rewards, modeling, and yelling. These stages contribute to improving students’ motivation, confidence, participation, speaking fluency, vocabulary accuracy, and willingness to communicate in Javanese. Furthermore, hypnoteaching is considered relevant to the interactive and experience-based learning characteristics of Generation Z students.
