Abstract

Abstrak- Tanah lempung gambut memiliki kandungan alumina yang memiliki banyak manfaat. Proses recovery alumina dari tanah lempung gambut dapat dilakukan menggunakan metode kalsinasi dan elutriasi. Penelitian bertujuan untuk mengambil kembali alumina dari tanah lempung gambut dan mempelajari pengaruh variasi penambahan CaCl2 serta keefektifan variasi kecepatan pengadukan terhadap pengambilan alumina dari tanah lempung gambut. Penelitian dilakukan dengan beberapa tahap. lempung yang berasal dari tanah gambut dibersihkan dan dikeringkan. Lempung gambut yang sudah kering dilakukan penggerusan dan pengayakan hingga didapatkan lempung gambut berukuran 75 mesh. Lempung gambut yang berukuran 75 mesh  dicampur dengan CaCl2 dengan variasi perbandingan CaCl2 :  lempung gambut adalah 0,5:1, 1:1, dan 1,5:1. Masing-masing campuran CaCl2 dan  lempung gambut dikalsinasi dengan pemanasan dalam furnace pada suhu 800oC selama 4 jam. Lempung gambut hasil kalsinasi kemudian digerus dan diayak hingga  berukuran 200 mesh. 80 gram lempung gambut hasil kalsinasi ukuran 200 mesh ditambahkan 400 mL larutan HCl 6 N, kemudian dilakukan p leaching dengan pengadukan selama 2 jam dengan kecepatan pengadukan sebesar 200 rpm, 300 rpm dan 400 rpm. Larutan hasil leaching didekantasi dan difiltrasi. Filtrat hasil leaching diuapkan  sampai tersisa 100 mL, selanjutnya ditambahkan dengan 100 mL aquadest. Penguapan kembali campuran filtrat dan aquadest sampai volumenya 100 mL dilakukan dengan pengadukan. Cairan yang dihasilkan diuji kandungan aluminanya dengan menggunakan titrasi volumetrik berdasarkan SNI 13-6620-2001. Berdasarkan hasil analisis untuk sampel awal diperoleh kadar alumina dalam tanah lempung gambut 2,81%. Hasil akhir diperoleh kadar alumina optimum yang dapat terambil dari tanah lempung gambut sebesar 0,622% menggunakan variasi perbandingan berat CaCl2 dan lempung gambut 0,5:1 dengan kecepatan pengadukan sebesar 400 rpm.Keywords: tanah lempung, alumina, kalsinasi, elutriasiAbstract- Peat clay contains alumina (Al2O3) that has many benefits. The process of recovery of alumina from clay peat can be done by using the method of calcination and elutriasi (stirring). This research aims to recover the alumina from clay peat and study the effect of the addition of CaCl2variations and the effectiveness of stirring speed variations in the process of alumina recovery from clay soils. This research was conducted with several steps. Clay from the peat soil is cleaned and dried by drying. The dry clay that has been done peat milling and sifting to obtain the size of 75 mesh peat clay. A 75 mesh peat clay mixed with a variation ratio of CaCl2 and peat clay is 0,5:1, 1:1, and 1.5:1. Each mixture of CaCl2 and peat clay calcined by heating in a furnace at a temperature of 800°C for 4 hours. Calcined peat clay was performed milling and sifting through a 200 mesh. 80 grams of calcined clay peat size of 200 mesh is added 400 mL of HCl 6 N, then performed solid-liquid separation processes (leaching) with stirring for 2 hours with stirring speed of 200 rpm, 300 rpm and 400 rpm. Solution of the leaching process was decanted and filtered. The filtrate of the result of leaching process is heated (evaporated) until the remaining 100 mL, then added with 100 mL of aquadest. Heating (evaporating) re-mixed filtrate and aquadest until the volume of 100 mL of this process while stirring by using stirer. Liquid contents alumina was tested using volumetric titration method based on SNI 13-6620-2001. Based on the results of the analysis initial sample obtained for the content of alumina in the  peat clay is 2.81%. The final result is obtained optimum levels of alumina which can be recover from peat clay soi is 0,622%l using a variation of weight ratio CaCl2 and peat clay 0,5:1 with stirring speed of 400 rpmKeywords: peat clay, alumina, calcination, elutriasi.

Abstract

Abstrak-Industri elektroplating adalah industry pelapisan logam dengan cara mengendapkan logam pelapis pada logam atau plastic yang dilakukan secara elektrolitik sehingga menghasilkan limbah yang mengandung logam berat. Elektrokoagulasi merupakan proses penggabungan gumpalan-gumpalan yang diakibatkan dari pengaliran arus listrik searah (DC) untuk pengambilan senyawa logam yang terdapat dalam limbah cair. Dalam proses ini akan terjadi reaksi reduksi dan oksidasi. Dimana logam akan tereduksi dan elektroda positif (Al) akan teroksidasi menjadi (Al(OH)3) yang berfungsi sebagai koagulan. Tujuan dari dilakukannya penelitian ini untuk mempelajari metode elektrokoagulasi menggunakan elektroda aluminium serta pengaruh lama waktu pengadukan dan kecepatan pengaduk terhadap pengambilan kadar Cr6+ dan Cr total. Elektrokoagulasi ini mengolah limbah cair elektroplating dengan dialiri listrik supaya ion-ion yang ada pada limbah terserap oleh koagulan pengikat yang di lepaskan dari elektroda sehingga akan terjadi ikatan antara ion-ion logam dengan koagulan. Variasi kecepatan pengaduk yaitu 200, 400 dan 600 rpm, sedangkan lama waktu pengadukan 25, 50 dan 75 menit. Berdasarkan hasil uji, setelah dilakukan analisis menunjukkan adanya penurunan yang cukup signifikan terhadap kadar Cr6+ dan Cr total dalam limbah elektroplating tersebut,. Untuk Cr6+ diperoleh penurunan sebesar 95,1% pada menit 50 dan kecepatan pengaduk 200 rpm, sedangkan Cr total diperoleh penurunan sebesar 82,69% pada menit 75 dan kecepatan pengaduk 600 rpm. Keywords: Elektroplating, Elektrokoagulasi, Elektroda aluminium Abstract-Electroplating industry is a metal coating industry by way of metal precipitate coatings on metal or plastic which is done so that the electrolytic waste containing heavy metals. Electrocoagulation is a process of merging clumps resulting from the flux of electrical current (DC) for the extraction of metal compounds contained in wastewater. In this process of reduction and oxidation reactions occur. Where the metal is reduced and the positive electrode (Al) will be oxidized to (Al (OH) 3) which serves as a coagulant. The purpose of this research to study methods of electrocoagulation using aluminum electrodes and the influence of the length of time stirring and stirring speed of decision-CR6+ levels and total Cr. This electrocoagulation electroplating wastewater with electricity so that the ions are absorbed by the coagulant in waste binder in the release of the electrode and causes the bond between the metal ions with coagulant. Variation of stirrer speed of 200, 400 and 600 rpm, whereas the long stirring time 25, 50 and 75 minutes. Based on test results, after an analysis showed a significant reduction of the levels of total CR6 + and Cr in the electroplating wastes. CR6+ to obtain a decrease of 95.1% at minute 50 and the stirrer speed of 200 rpm, whereas the total Cr obtained a decrease of 82.69% at minute 75 and a stirrer speed of 600 rpm. Abstract

Abstract- A research on the utilization of ulin wood waste (Eusideroxylon Zwageri T) has been conducted as an active charcoal to adsorb Iron (Fe) and Manganese (Mn). The purpose of this research is to know and study the potential of activated charcoal from Ulin wood waste as adsorbent of Iron (Fe) and Manganese (Mn) in well water, knowing optimum time to adsorb Iron (Fe) and Manganese (Mn) and to know the concentration of Iron (Fe) and Manganese (Mn) after adsorbed by activated charcoal from Ulin wood waste. Charcoal is obtained from Ulin wood with burning for 9 hours, then activated chemically and physics. The parameters studied were pH, optimum time determination, Iron (Fe) and Manganese (Mn) concentration after adsorption. The results showed that the optimum time (toptimum) to adsorb Iron (Fe) and Manganese (Mn) was at minute 30 and obtained the optimum concentration of Iron (Fe) of 0,22 mg / L and Manganese (Mn)  concentration of 0,174 mg / L . Keywords: Ulin Wood, activated charcoal, Fe and Mn adsorption, filtration.

Abstract

Abstrak- Pengolahan air bersih dengan teknologi membran merupakan proses pengolahan air dengan kualitas yang sangat baik dan sesuai untuk pengolahan air minum di negara-negara berkembang karena membran memiliki banyak sekali keunggulan. Salah satu jenis operasi pemisahan membran adalah dengan membran ultrafiltrasi. Ultrafiltrasi merupakan proses penyaringan partikel-partikel dalam rentang ukuran koloid, yaitu larutan dan molekul besar ditahan dipermukaan membran dan zat terlarut dengan ukuran sangat kecil dapat melewati membran. Tujuan dari penelitian ini adalah untuk menentukan komposisi % berat dimetilformamida pada pembuatan membran ultrafiltrasi yang terbaik. Membran ultrafiltrasi ini dibuat dengan memvariasikan konsentrasi aditif dimetilformamida yang berfungsi untuk penentuan ukuran pori membran dan konsentrasi aseton. Pencampuran bahan dilakukan dengan pengadukan selama ± 6 jam, hasil cetakan film polimer dikoagulasi selama 1 jam dalam air es (± 4°C) kemudian dicuci dengan air mengalir dan disimpan dalam wadah yang diberi formalin. Kemudian dilakukan pengujian pada membran tersebut menggunakan air gambut dimana permeat yang dihasilkan di ukur volumenya setiap selang waktu 5 menit untuk menentukan fluks membrannya. Kemudian dilakukan analisa terhadap konsentrasi permeat  untuk menentukan koefisien rejeksi, di mana rejeksi yang diharapkan adalah > 90%. Berdasarkan hasil penelitian, membran ultrafiltrasi yang terbaik adalah membran dengan komposisi % berat dimetilformamida 20; 24 dan 28 dimana koefisien rejeksi rata-rata yang diperoleh masing-masing adalah 98,15; 92,80 dan 95,41%. Kata kunci: dimetilformamida, koefisien rejeksi, fluks Abstract-Clean water treatment with membrane technology is a water treatment process with very good quality and suitable for drinking water treatment in developing countries because the membrane has a lot of advantages. One type of membrane separation operation is with ultrafiltration membranes. Ultrafiltration is a process of filtering particles in the size range of colloids, namely liquid while large molecules detained on the surface of the membrane and the solute with very small size can pass through the membrane. The purpose of this study was to determine the best composition of %wt of dimethylformamide in the manufacture of ultrafiltration membranes. Ultrafiltration membrane is made by varying the concentration of the additive of  dimethylformamide which serves for the determination of membrane pore size and the concentration of acetone. Mixing materials done by stirring for ± 6 hours, polymer film printouts is coagulated  for 1 hour in ice water (± 4 ° C) and then washed with running water and stored in a container containing formalin. Then conducted testing on the membrane using peat water where permeate that generated is measured the volume of each interval of 5 minutes to determine the membrane flux. Then analyzing the concentration of permeate to determine the coefficient of rejection, where the expected rejection is> 90%. Based on the research results, the best ultrafiltration membrane was membrane with  composition wt% of dimethylformamide of 20; 24 and 28, where rejection coefficient average respectively was 98.15; 92.80 and 95.41%. Keywords: dimethylformamide, rejection coefficient, flux

Abstract

Tujuan penelitian ini adalah untuk membuat adsorben 2-Mercapto-benzothiazole (MBT) – Lempung Aktif yang akan digunakan dalam upaya menurunkan kadar merkuri dalam media air. Penelitian dimulai dengan melakukan proses demetalisasi pada lempung (bentonit) yang dilakukan dengan merendam bentonit dalam larutan HCl, larutan NH4NO3 dan kemudian dilanjutkan dengan pemanasan pada dua temperatur yang berbeda (120 oC dan 400 oC). Langkah berikutnya adalah proses pilarisasi yang dilakukan dengan merendam bentonit hasil demetalisasi selama 18 jam dalam larutan AlCl3 yang sebelumnya telah ditambah dengan NaOH 0,1 M. Pada tahap akhir proses pilarisasi, bentonit dipanaskan pada temperatur 120 oC dan 400 oC. Bentonit hasil pilarisasi kemudian diuji kemampuan adsorpsinya dengan larutan metilen blue. Hasil pengujian dengan metilen blue tersebut diambil sebagai dasar untuk menentukan tahap selanjutnya, yaitu proses impregnasi mercaptobenzothiazole (MBT) pada berbagai konsentrasi (6%, 8%, dan 10%). Adsorben hasil impregnasi selanjutnya digunakan dalam proses adsorpsi larutan Hg pada berbagai konsentrasi (0,1 – 0,5 ppm) guna mengetahui kemampuannya sebagai adsorben. Hasil penelitian menunjukkan bahwa perbedaan temperatur pemanasan pada lempung (bentonit) berpengaruh terhadap daya serapnya terhadap metilen blue. Perlakuan pada bentonit (demetalisasi, pilarisasi pada dua temperatur yang berbeda) berpengaruh pada pola difraksi sinar-X nya.  Kapasitas adsorpsi dari MBT-lempung aktif yang diamati melalui penelitian ini belum berhasil ditentukan, sehingga perlu upaya lanjutan untuk mengetahuinya. Kata kunci : mercury, MBT, activated clay, bentoniteAbstract-The objective of thus research was to make adsorbent 2-Mercapto-benzothiazole (MBT) – active clay used to reduce mercury content in water medium. The adsorbentof impregnationwas usedto adsorb Hgat various concentrations(0.1 to 0.5 ppm) for determininghis ability asadsorbent. The results showedthat thedifference inthe heating temperatureonclay(bentonite) affect theabsorbanceof themethyleneblue. Treatment ofbentonite(metal reduction, pillarizationon twodifferent temperatures) effected onX-ray diffractionpattern. Abstract

Abstract- Solid Waste Sludge (SWS) PDAM are formed by deposition of solid particles in water that has been given a coagulant such as alum and PAC (Poly Aluminum Chloride). SWS PDAM have the content of alumina (Al2O3) is quite high, making it possible to get alumina by recovery process. This research aims to study the process of recovery of alumina from SWS PDAM and determine the condition of the process to obtain optimum alumina.The process of recovery of alumina from a material divided into three main processes. First process was calcination material to break the complex bonds aluminosilicate contained in the material, in which some compound was added before calcination and to used to bind the compound alum. The second process is the solid-liquid extraction (leaching) that serves to separate the silica and alumina. Silica will precipitate and alumina will dissolve. Next process is the decomposition of hydrolysis, the compound of Al will be heated by adding water so that the hydrated form of alumina.This research was conducted with several stages. First SWS PDAM is mixed with CaCl2, by variation ratio of CaCl2:SWS PDAM are 0,5:1, 1:1 and 1.5:1, then calcined at temperature of 800oC. Calcined particle with size 200 mesh was leached by HCl with variation concentration of 4M, 6M and 8M. Solution was added to 100ml of water and heated to 100ml left. Results were analyzed as  %w / w alumina contained in the solution. The results of the best variations made to the recovery of alumina in this study is to use a variation of weight ratio 1:1 CaCl2 and SWS PDAM with HCl concentration on the leaching process of 8M obtained alumina recovery percentage 15.68%. Abstract

Ekstraksi cair-cair dalam kolom isian merupakan proses pemisahan fasa cair yang memanfaatkan perbedaan kelarutan suatu zat. Tipe ekstraksi ini termasuk kedalam  tipe ekstraksi kolom vertikal tanpa berpengaduk (unagitated) selain kolom semprot (spray) dan kolom pelat. Operasi ekstraksi cair-cair yang baik sangat dipengaruhi oleh karakteristik perpindahan zat terlarut (solute). Karakteristik ini dapat dikuantifikasikan dengan suatu nilai yang disebut dengan koefisien perpindahan massa. Koefisien perpindahan massa ini sangat penting untuk diketahui dalam perancangan kolom ekstraksi cair-cair dan nilainya dapat dicari dengan menggunakan model-model estimasi koefisien perpindahan massa baik di fasa dispersi maupun fasa kontinyu. Penelitian ini bertujuan untuk membuktikan keberlakuan model Handloss-Baros – Garner-Foord-Tayeban (HB-GFT) pada proses ekstraksi cair-cair menggunakan prototipe kolom transparan dan jenis isian berupa bola-bola kecil dengan variasi laju alir fasa kontinyu dan fasa dispersi pada rentang tetesan bersirkulasi (Re = 10 – 200). Dari penelitian ini didapatkan bahwa jenis isian, ukuran tetesan, dan laju alir fasa kedua (dispersi dan  kontinyu) memberikan pengaruh yang cukup signifikan terhadap proses perpindahan massa yang dinyatakan dengan koefisien perpindahan massa keseluruhan (KOD). Data laju alir dan komposisi masing-masing fasa di aliran masuk dan keluar kolom dianalisis dengan menggunakan alat kromatografi gas (GC) yang ditunjukan dengan makin besar laju alir fasa dispersi (Qd), koefisien perpindahan massa keseluruhan (KOD) makin kecil. Hal ini disebabkan bahwa ukuran diameter tetesan disepanjang kolom isian dianggap sama. Dan keberlakuan model HB-GFT untuk dinamika tetesan sirkulasi internal (170<Re<200) merupakan kombinasi terbaik dalam penentuan KOD dengan standar deviasi sebesar 3,2%. Keywords: ekstraksi, kolom isian, perpindahan massa. Liquid-liquid extraction in packed column is a process of liquid phase separation in which a liquid solution (the feed) is contacted with an immiscible or nearly immiscible liquid (solvent). This type of extraction is a kind of vertical column extraction type without agitator (unagitated column) besides spray column and plate column. Good operation of liquid-liquid extraction hardly influenced by solute transfer characteristic. This characteristic can be quantification with a value so-called with mass transfer coefficient. Mass transfer coefficient is importance in order to be known in scheme of liquid-liquid extraction column and the values can be searched by using estimation models of mass transfer coefficient either in dispersion phase and also continue phase.The aim of this research is to prove model applying Handloss-Baros - Garner-Foord-Tayeban (HB-GFT) at liquid-liquid extraction process using transparent column prototype and packing type of small sphere with various of flow rate continue phase and dispersion phase at circulation drop spread (Re = 10 - 200). From this research got that packing type, droplet size, and flow rate phase (dispersion and continue) gives influence that is enough significant to mass transfer process that expressed with overall mass transfer coefficient (KOD). Flow rate and composition each phase in inlet and outlet column data are analyzed by using gas chromatography equipment (GC) that showed more and more big dispersion phase (Qd) flow rate, mass transfer coefficient (KOD) more and more small. This caused that drop diameter measure along the length of packing column assumed to be same. And model applying HB-GFT for internal circulation drop dynamics (170<Re<200) is best combination in determination of KOD with deviation standard equal to 3,2%. Keywords: extraction, packing column, mass transfer

Abstract

One of method which ussualy used in neutralizing Acid Mine Drainage using neutralizing agents is Settling Pond. This treatment process requires adding neutralizing agents to the waters or through a mixing system and allowing deposits to form in the pond. Many factors and process mechanisms can affect the effluent quality of an Acid Mine Drainage processing system. The purpose of this study is to evaluate the effectiveness and optimize the Acid Mine Drainage neutralization process carried out in Settling Pond 19. The research method used is to make theoretical simulations both modeling using PHREEQC and calculations to simulate various neutralization process options. The results showed that the neutralization process was affected by the quality of the neutralizing agent, the number of doses, the saturation index (precipitation) limit, the dissolution process of the neutralizing agent, the duration of dosing, and the duration of neutralization. According to modeling and theoretical calculations, the technical recommendations for optimizing the Acid Mine Drainage neutralization process to produce effluent quality that meets wastewater quality standards are the duration interval to inject neutralizer from every 60 minutes to every 13.6 minutes with a continuous dosing mechanism; The use of a maximum dose of limestone of 0.22 g/L to avoid oversaturated events, and the use of a limestone dissolution mechanism before the injection process is carried out to reduce the need for retention time for 216 seconds.

Abstract

The significant growth in the amount of waste can cause various problems, so management efforts are needed to convert waste into more useful and useful material. Waste banks are facilities used as an alternative to waste management to reduce environmental pollution that will be caused by waste generation. This study aims to analyze the internal and external factors that influence the development of the Mentari Tamiang Layang Waste Bank is in quadrant l, which is in the alternative strategy section. The results of the SWOT matrix showed that there are nine alternatives that can be carried out by the Waste Bank, namely (1) improving Waste Bank services to customers by optimizrng existing facilities, (2) making innovations and increasing creativity to process recycled waste products, (3) marketing products from recycled waste, (4) requiring local government support so that the Waste Bank is more advanced and developed. (5) collaborate with parties that can support the development of the Waste Bank, (6) improve the implementation of larvs and regulations in waste management, (7) increase public awareness in preserving the environment by conducting socialization activities, (8) coordinate with the Regional Government related to the development of the Waste Bank, and (9) maintain bid prices so that cooperation with customers remains well establi shed.

Abstract

Water treatment sludge (WTS) still contains a lot of silica oxide (SiO2) as much as 43.12-66.90% by weight and can act as an adsorbent to be applied to the treatment of Sasirangan wastewater. Silica extraction from WTS was carried out by microwave-assisted leaching, which - compared to conventional extraction - had several advantages including high extraction yields, fast, uniform, and more selective processing time. In addition, Sasirangan liquid waste is a by-product of the dyeing process of Sasirangan cloth, which still contains heavy metals in amounts exceeding the quality standard. This study aims to extract silica from WTS by microwave-assisted leaching process to synthesize silica modified by chitosan (Si-Kit) as an adsorbent to reduce Pb(II) from Sasirangan wastewater, and to obtain a kinetic model of the adsorption process. The silica from microwave-assisted leaching process (Si-MaL) and Si-Kit adsorbents were characterized using FTIR and SEM. The results showed that the dominant functional groups of Si-Kit included Si-O-Si, Si-O-C stretching vibrations, and stretching vibration of C=N showing that the condensation between aldehyde groups and amino groups occurred to form base after the addition of glutaraldehyde. The SEM images showed that Si-MaL and Si-Kit adsorbent obviously increased in particle size with the presence of visible particles of homogeneous granules and large pores. The removal efficiency percentage of Pb(II) and color occurred at 6% w/v adsorbent weight and 70 min was 87.20% and 61.87% respectively. Meanwhile, the adsorption kinetics of Pb(II) and color followed the zero order kinetics model at weight variation of 6%-w/v based on the value of R2 close to one and the adsorption capacity of Pb(II) ion and color were 12.01 mg g-1 and 467 mg g-1, respectively.
