Abstract

In an era when adolescents are immersed in digital spaces, traditional practices of teaching literature in class fail to address their multimodal beings. Multiliteracies pedagogy is growing to be known, yet it has not been extensively developed in tertiary EFL settings, especially in Southeast Asia. There has been little investigation into how undergraduate students make sense of traditional texts in digital spaces. This study investigates the integration of online poster creation and character monologue video production in the teaching of traditional short stories to adolescent EFL students for enhanced literary comprehension and personal identification. With a classroom qualitative design, 24 Indonesian fourth-semester English Education students from Muhammadiyah University in West Java reviewed two stories, Araby and Mademoiselle Fifi, through Canva-based posters and performative video monologues. Student work and interview data were examined thematically to look for engagement and interpretation trends. The results indicate that the students not only accessed deeper symbolic meaning and empathic understanding but also enacted and represented personal and cultural identities through the visual and performative modes. The multimodal tasks enabled critical reading of themes such as disillusionment, gender, and nationalism, and transformed the students into active readers of literature. This research establishes the pedagogic worth of digital technology in teaching literature. By leveraging the digital literacy of adolescent students, instructors can facilitate more sophisticated literary consciousness and construct critical, creative readers in EFL environments.

Abstract

SOCIALIZATION OF HAND WASHING WITH SOAP AT SDN 24 MEMBALONG BANTAN VILLAGE, BELITUNG DISTRICT. Encouraging the community, especially the school community, to adopt clean and healthy living habits (PHBS) is very important. Schools have the potential to spread diseases in addition to serving as places of learning if the student body fails to uphold PHBS ideals. Evidently connected to PHBS is the rise of illnesses that frequently affect school-age children (6–10 years old).   As a result, teaching these principles might begin with something as simple as hand washing. Teaching people to wash their hands properly can be done by using a health promotion outreach method that is regularly assessed for its effectiveness as a way to build community capacity through a process of learning that is modeled after School Health Enterprise (UKS) programs. The overall goals and benefits of this events are to give Membalong 24 Elementary School students, Belitung Regency with an understanding of how to wash their hands cleanly using soap, so that students can apply clean and healthy living habits independently in their daily lives. Counseling and demonstration approaches were employed to complete this exercise, along with image media, posters/leaflets, and music. The outcomes of this activity reveal that pupils have a great knowledge of the affects and benefits, as well as how to clean their hands with soap.

Abstract

Listening is one of the most challenging language skills for EFL learners, particularly in selective listening activities that require students to identify specific information from spoken texts. To address this issue, interactive digital media such as Educaplay can provide engaging learning experiences and support listening comprehension. This study aimed to explore the benefits experienced by eighth-grade students when using Educaplay in selective listening activities. A qualitative case study design was selected because it enabled an in-depth exploration of students’ learning experiences, perceptions, and interactions within a real classroom context. The study involved 39 eighth-grade students at a junior high school in Kuningan Regency, West Java. Data were collected through classroom observations, semi-structured interviews, student reflections, and field notes, and analyzed using thematic analysis. The findings revealed that Educaplay enhanced students’ engagement, motivation, confidence, vocabulary development, and selective listening abilities. Its interactive, game-based features promoted active participation and improved students’ ability to identify specific information from spoken texts while fostering time management and critical thinking. Although internet connectivity, audio comprehension, and device limitations posed challenges, students generally responded positively, indicating that Educaplay is an effective medium for supporting selective listening instruction in EFL classrooms.
