Abstract

Considering the importance of grammatical knowledge in the writing process, this research aims at describing the grammatical errors that are committed by the fifth semester students of English Department at IAIN Palopo. The research study is classified into a descriptive-qualitative study. The data were collected from twenty two English texts written by the English Department students which were done as tasks and contained six familiar topics. Students were supposed to write an essay/paragraph about the given topics. In addition, the researcher had permission from the lecturer to take and analyse the students’ written works.  The researcher and students’ written works are the main sources of data collection in this research. To identify the common errors, students’ writings were analysed with the help of checklists in order to classify different types of errors made by the respondents. The results of the study revealed that the most common and frequent errors made by the students are 387 (58.37%) places of omission errors, 213 (32.12%) places of mis formation errors, 131 (19.75%) places of addition errors, 8 (1.20%) places of mis ordering errors. Besides that, the causes of these errors were developmental found in 323 (36.17%) places, 306 (34.26%) of ambiguous, 205 (22.95%) of interlingual, and 59 (6.60%) unique errors. Based on these findings, teachers are suggested to raise students’ awareness on these errors and provide sufficient remedies to prevent students from internalizing such errors.

Abstract

Silver barb (Barbonymus gonionotus) is a catch that is commonly found in the waters of Tempe Lake, Wajo Regency, South Sulawesi. Catching Silver barb (Barbonymus gonionotus) in the waters of Tempe Lake uses several types of fishing gear, including gill nets or lanra' (gill nets) with mesh sizes of 4, 4.5, 5, 6.5, 7, and 9 cm, dragon traps or ja'ba, traps, and lift nets. The purpose of this study is to analyze aspects of the population dynamics of Silver barb (Barbonymus gonionotus), which includes age group, growth, mortality, exploitation rate, and yield in a recruitment, and to analyze the catch of Silver barb (Barbonymus gonionotus) caught using gill nets, dragon traps, and lift nets. This research was conducted over two months, in November and December 2021. Stratified random sampling was used to select the participants. The fish were grouped into small, medium, and large sizes, and fish were randomly selected from each age group. The total sample obtained was 1600 tails with a total length range of 10-33 cm TL and an average length of 19.8 cm TL. The results of the analysis obtained two age groups: the first was in the length range of 10-18 cm, and the second was in the length range of 18-33 cm. Fish asymptote length (L∞) was 45 cm with a coefficient value (K) of 0.5 in a year, and fish age at length was zero (t0) = -0.2919 years. Natural mortality (M) was 1.05 per year, fishing mortality (F) was 2.19 per year, and total mortality (Z) was 3.24 per year. The exploitation rate value was 0.68, which exceeded the optimum exploitation rate (0.50). The value of yield in recruitment (Y/R') was 0.0166 g/recruitment, and the recruitment process was not normal.

Abstract

Local institutions are the values, rules, structures, and practices that exist within local communities and are interrelated with the activities carried out by a community. This study aims to determine the form and role of local institutions in fishing activities in Pundata Baji Village, Labakkang District, Pangkep Regency. This study was conducted from October 2024 to January 2025. This study used qualitative descriptive analysis and informant perception analysis using a Likert scale with data collection through interviews, observation, documentation, and literature study. The informants for this study were people whose livelihoods were in the fisheries sector, including fishermen, seaweed farmers, and fish farmers. During the field research, the researcher obtained 26 informants, and using the guidelines for determining informants, a total of 19 main informants were selected as references for providing information. The results of the study show that the existence of local community institutions such as punggawa sawi, sipakatongeng, nakasa, pappalele, and mabbulo sibatang in fishing activities plays an important role in the sustainability of the fishing industry. Local institutions act as a forum for coordination, a mechanism for profit sharing and economic roles, conflict management, collaboration and solidarity, and play a role in ecosystem sustainability.
