Abstract

The existence of digital transformation in the development of the world, makes the maritime industry increasingly rely on technology to carry out navigation, communication, and logistics intermediaries. As the maritime industry continues to adopt digitalization and adapt, the need for strategy as well as strengthening cybersecurity becomes critical for the country. The increase in cybercrime and its vulnerabilities should make Indonesia more aggressively address or anticipate this problem. Although it is proven that indonesia in its initiation of a cybersecurity strategy has increased, Indonesia is seen as still lacking to show the nation's commitment in terms of cyber security, when compared to data from NCIS (National Cyber security Index) from 2016-2023 Indonesia is still far below its neighbor, Malaysia, which is also a maritime country. Through a qualitative approach, this article aims to explain the urgency of cybersecurity in the maritime sector, highlighting challenges and solutions to protect ships, ports, and maritime infrastructure from cyber threats in Indonesia.

Abstract

. This research investigates the involvement of the ASEAN Ministerial Meeting on Transnational Crime (AMMTC) in efforts to tackle human trafficking in the ASEAN region, with a focus on the role and concrete steps that have been taken in supporting the fight against human trafficking in Indonesia. Using a qualitative approach with literature study methods, data was collected from various literature sources including official ASEAN documents, research reports and academic articles. The research results show that human trafficking is one of the most serious transnational crime issues in the ASEAN region, with the main victims including vulnerable women and children. AMMTC plays a role in developing policies and legal frameworks to address human trafficking, as well as facilitating operational cooperation between law enforcement agencies of ASEAN member countries. Concrete steps taken by AMMTC include issuing the ASEAN Action Plan to Combat Transnational Crime, adopting implementation guidelines, and formulating ACTIP (ASEAN Convention Against Human Trafficking in Persons). Through these steps, ASEAN is demonstrating a strong commitment to confronting the issue of human trafficking and working with member countries to address the threat. This research contributes to a deeper understanding of the role of AMMTC in combating human trafficking in the ASEAN region and its relevance to efforts to combat human trafficking in Indonesia.

Abstract

Lovina Beach, which is located in the northern part of Bali Island, has long been known as one of the main tourist destinations in Bali, especially for tourists who are interested in seeing dolphins in their natural habitat. This tourist attraction has been operating since 1987 and is a major contributor to local tourism. Lovina's dolphins are not only a tourist attraction, but also a symbol of Indonesia's rich marine biodiversity. However, as tourism develops and the number of visitors increases every year, there are increasing concerns regarding the management of dolphin resources in Lovina. Tourism activities that focus on observing dolphins have the potential to have a negative impact on marine ecosystems, especially on the dolphin population itself. Therefore, managing dolphin resources at Lovina Beach is a very important and urgent topic to consider.

Abstract

The La Galigo epoch is an important literary work that depicts the deep intercultural relationship between the archipelago and China. The story, which focuses on Sawerigading's adventures, not only presents an epic story but also reflects the significant cultural, economic, and political exchanges in Southeast Asia's maritime region. Since the 7th century, the archipelago has been a vital trade route connecting various cultures, with Chinese traders playing a key role in the flow of goods and knowledge. Through the La Galigo Epos, it can be seen how elements of Chinese culture, including shipping technology, trade practices, and social values, have contributed to the development of the archipelago's cultural identity. This integration not only enriches the local culture, but also expands the social and economic horizons of the community. The relationship between the two cultures is the foundation for emerging social and governmental dynamics, demonstrating the positive impact as well as the challenges faced in complex cultural interactions. This epoch is not just a story, but also a historical document that provides important insights into the development of maritime cultural identity in Southeast Asia. By tracing the intercultural relationships established in the La Galigo Epos, we can understand how these interactions shape the region's cultural diversity and richness, as well as provide valuable lessons for future generations in preserving cultural heritage.

Abstract

Sand mining in coastal regions, particularly on Kodingareng Lompo Island, has emerged as an environmental concern that profoundly affects ecosystem sustainability and the livelihoods of local populations. This study aims to analyze the impact of sand mining activities on coastal ecological conditions and their relationship to Sustainable Development Goal (SDG) 12 on sustainable consumption and production. A qualitative approach will be adopted, using interviews with local stakeholders such as fishermen, women entrepreneurs, the Neighborhood Association, and the Neighborhood Unit. Sand mining causes coastal erosion, habitat destruction, and water quality degradation. As a result, fishermen's catches and the economic incomes of local communities decline dramatically. This practice accelerates environmental damage contrary to the SDGs and exacerbates damage contrary to the principles of SDG 12. Recommendations for stricter regulations and implementing environmentally friendly mining methods can reduce adverse environmental impacts and support the sustainability of coastal ecosystems and the well-being of local communities. Such policies are essential to balance natural resource utilization and conservation efforts, aligning with SDG target 12. The novelty of this study lies in the need for more literature discussing this issue in Kodingareng Lompo Island.

Abstract

As an archipelago, Indonesia has a vast ocean and is rich in biodiversity. With a vast ocean, Indonesia has considerable marine ecotourism potential. However, the problem that needs to be solved is destructive fishing in Indonesian waters. Destructive fishing can damage the marine ecosystem and reduce the number of marine life that characterizes Indonesian waters. Kapoposang Island is one of Indonesia's areas with great marine ecotourism potential. However, on Kapoposang Island, there are cases of destructive fishing which are feared to hurt the development of marine ecotourism. Besides that, community participation is needed so that an increase can follow the growth of marine ecotourism on Kapoposang Island in the standard of living of the local community, one of which is the economy. This study examined the relationship between destructive fishing and tourism development on Kapoposang Island. The research was conducted using a qualitative approach to analyze the impact of destructive fishing on the development of marine ecotourism on Kapoposang Island, Pangkajene Islands Regency, South Sulawesi. Researchers used data sources in the form of interviews and literature studies.

Abstract

The war between Russia and Ukraine has recently been in the international spotlight. One of the things seen is the weapons technology used. The modernization of weapons technology has prolonged the war on both sides. This article will discuss Javelin and NLAW which are types of portable anti-tank missiles and their use in the Russia-Ukraine war. Man-Portable Anti-tank Systems are shoulder-fired missiles that are used to destroy opposing tanks. Weapons such as the Javelin and NLAW are the result of the development of earlier versions of the Anti-Tank Guided Missile. These "fire and forget" type missiles such as the Javelin belong to the third generation ATGM system. The method used in this research is descriptive qualitative. Data will be obtained through literature studies from secondary sources such as books, documents, online articles, and media online. The data obtained will be analyzed descriptively. The results of this study show that Javelin and NLAW missiles are very effectively used by Ukraine in repelling Russian tanks.

Abstract

Pakistan and China have established cooperative relations in various fields for centuries. In the field of security, the two countries have formed military cooperation that has significantly impacted regional security stability and has been quite effective in addressing evolving security challenges and geopolitical tensions in South Asia. Using descriptive methods, researchers can describe the factors influencing military cooperation between Pakistan and China and examine its implications for regional stability in South Asia. The research findings indicate that Pakistan-China military cooperation is influenced by economic, political, and other military aspects, which subsequently provide a strong position for both countries to face various potential threats affecting the balance of power and stability in South Asia. This cooperation can create a balance of power that stabilizes the region and brings strategic benefits to both countries, though the risks of escalation and increased tensions are also consequences that must be managed carefully.
