Abstract

Umbi bawang dayak (Eleutherine palmifolia (L.) Merr.) memiliki kandungan fenol dan flavonoid yang berkhasiat sebagai antioksidan. Kandungan kimia dalam suatu tumbuhan dapat dipengaruhi dengan adanya proses pengolahan bahan baku. Salahsatu proses pengolahan baku tumbuhan yaitu dengan adanya fermentasi menggunakan pemanasan. Penelitian ini bertujuan mengetahui pengaruh fermentasi pada kandungan kimia dan aktivitas antioksidan pada ekstrak umbi bawang dayak. Penelitian ini dilakukan dengan fermentasi umbi bawang dayak dengan pemanasan selama 10, 20 dan 30 hari. Ekstraksi dilakukan menggunakan maserasi dengan pelarut etanol 70%. Penetapan kadar fenol total, flavonoid total dan aktivitas antioksidan menggunakan spektrofotometer UV-Vis. Hasil penelitian menunjukkan, ekstrak umbi bawang dayak hasil fermentasi selama 30 hari memiliki kadar fenol total, kadar flavonoid total dan aktivitas antioksidan tertinggi, ditunjukkan secara berurutan (3,721 g GAE/100 g ekstrak ± 0,210; 0,378 g QE/100 g ekstrak ± 0,189, IC50 peredaman DPPH 28,689 µg/mL± 0,144). Adanya proses fermentasi dan lama proses fermentasi dapat mempengaruhi kandungan kimia dan aktivitas antioksidan ekstrak umbi bawang dayak.

Abstract

This research investigates the impact of positive discipline on students’ self-esteem and how it is implemented. A pre-experimental study followed by observation was applied in this research. This research was carried out at an English department of an Islamic University in Salatiga, Indonesia. An English class consisting of 33 students was chosen through cluster random sampling, and an English teacher was the sampler of this research. The pre-post-test was given to 33 students and adapted from Sorensen’s Self-Esteem Questionnaire. The observation was also employed to gather further information on how the teacher implemented positive discipline in the class. Positive Discipline practices in the class are reflected in how the teacher motivates students, praises students’ work, helps students’ problems, and involves students in arranging learning. Further, the mean score of students’ self-esteem questionnaire is decreasing, which means their self-esteem is increasing. Although they are classified in similar levels from 18.42 (severely low self-esteem) to 17.12 (severely low self-esteem), they have improved their self-esteem score. On the other hand, the result of the paired sample T-test represents the less significant positive discipline effect on self-esteem. The paired sample T-test value is 0.092, which is higher than 0.05. Thus, implementing positive discipline over extended periods in EFL learning might significantly affect students’ self-esteem.

Abstract

Self-efficacy and anxiety were two psychological aspects that were influential in improving the students’ speaking skills. This study aimed to investigate the correlation between learners' anxiety and their self-efficacy when they are forced to practice speaking outside the classroom. It involved 30 members of the speaking community, which was offered by the campus to improve students' English capability outside the classrooms. They were given two questionnaires confirming their self-efficacy and their anxiety. Average students were classified into low categories of their self-efficacy and anxiety. this investigation showed the there was no correlation between these two varibles. As the level of significance of this correlation reached 0.007 > 0.005. Thus, students’ speaking anxiety had not proven to be correlated with students’ self-efficacy when they tried to speak English outside the classrooms. A deeper study is needed to accomplish this study in the form of investigating narratively how students’ cope their anxiety and raise their self-efficacy.

Abstract

This research was conducted to improve students’ activeness at structure class by sharing their idea, comment, questions and structure mastery. This research applied slido.com application as the media to teach. It was a classroom action research which had been conducted in two cycles. The subjects of this research were the third semester students of English Education Department of IAIN Salatiga. The writer took one of 3 classes as the sample of the research randomly. The researcher observed the improvement of students’ activeness at structure class by collecting the data through observation and measurement technique. The data were in the form of observation checklist and field notes, documentation, and students’ task. The data which were collected were analyzed to know the description of the class activity and the learning progress. After the cycles conducted, it resulted that there ware improvement in students’ activeness in delivering questions, giving comments, and doing simple task. The description of result was also proven with the students’ mean score improved from 51 in their pre-test into 67 in the second cycle. It can be drawn a conclusion that there is an improvement in students’ activeness in the structure class taught using slido application.

Abstract

Conventional English learning models often emphasize learning on explicit English grammar mastery and the learning process is dominated by the teacher. This happens to English language education students carrying out teaching practice at schools so that the target of learning English at the schools is not achieved optimally. Therefore, the PkM team, which is a collaborative team from Universitas Hasyim Asy'ari Tebuireng Jombang and UIN Salatiga, agreed that students who will carry out teaching practice in schools need to be given training on a humanistic approach in learning English. Participants in this online training were 53 English language education students from two private universities in East Java and one state university in Central Java. This training was carried out for a week online, consisting of material presentations and assistance in making lesson plans based on a humanistic approach. After attending this training, students are increasingly able to understand how to teach in English classes. Students' understanding of the humanistic approach has increased and their lesson plans have also implemented a humanistic approach. In general, this training really needs to be provided as a provision for English language education students in carrying out teaching practices at schools.

Abstract

This study aims to determine the application of the Problem Centered Learning learning model, find out the interpersonal communication skills of students and find out the influence of the Problem Centered Learning learning model on the interpersonal communication skills of grade IV students of UPT SPF SD Negeri Borong. This study uses a quantitative approach with a quasi-experimental design. The subject of the study involved 53 students in grade IV of elementary school, consisting of 27 students in the experimental class and 26 students in the control class using the purposive sampling method. The research instrument consists of observation sheets and questionnaires. The data collection procedures, namely pre-nontest, treatment, and post-nontest, were then analyzed by descriptive statistics and inferential statistics. The results of this study show that: (1) the application of the Problem Centered Learning learning model that was carried out obtained a good category with 3 stages individual problem-solving activities.
