Abstract

The tradition of hijrah seek knowledge often referred to as the ?ilmiyyah rihlah travel or study that has been inherited by those earlier (the salaf al-shâlih) to the current generation. This paper specifically highlights the rihlah ?ilmiyyah tradition among the scholars of Hadith in historical perspective. The presence technological advances and information now that it?s been more advanced, as well as easily accessible online anytime and any where, does not mean rihlah ? ilmiyyah by the time this becomes less relevant again. However, because a meeting directly with the teachers remain necessary in order to keep the scientific ethics and objectivity of scholarship which in turn will generate sustainable goodness value, or in the language of religion is referred to as the ?blessing ? of science. This was the movitasi scholars of classical tradition to keep doing this to perlawatan seeking other areas, despite having to go through the difficulties and obstacles.

Abstract

In the Islamic discourse, the study of hadith is in demand today. This is because the function of hadith is as a source of Islamic teachings which is a necessity in human life in all circumstances and conditions. Therefore, the proper method of understanding hadith through comprehensive approach both textual and contextual is required. The study of hadith also needs methodology enlightenment and paradigm shift. In this case, modification and adaptation of information and methodology elements by a discipline from other disciplines is a natural thing. This integration of various diciplines is then known as interdisciplinary and multidisciplinary approach. Interdisciplinary approach in the study of hadith which use the traditional Islamic science is also done by a number of contemporary scholars of hadith

Abstract

The development of tariqat in Indonesia is historically and sociologically related to the climate and culture of the people who in the past was formed by rural culture. However, in recent developments, in South Kalimantan for example, the assumption is very different. Although, this tariqat is usually described as traditional, backward, and associated with the countryside, it is not entirely true. With its tradisional nature, the tariqat become attractions for scholars. Those with rational thingkings entering this world with diverse motivations. There are two complementary sides. On the one hand, rational intellectuals/scholars enter into the tariqat and give a new baseline. On the other hand, the members of the tariqat also renew themselves. Motivations that drive the interest to this tariqat are doctrinal, rational, moral, and psychological. This motivation does not stand alone; it is intertwined and supports each other, in the internalization of the tariqat into the consciousness of the individual.

Abstract

Muslims researchers make separation between legal traditions (ah}adith al-ah}kam) documented in theliterature traditions; and historical traditions (ah}ad ith al-sira) are summarized in the literature of classicalIslamic historiography. But it turns out in a number of Sirah literature, there are some traditions ofAhk} am found. In contras, in the h}adith literatures, there are also found historical tradition. From here,it can be stated that the tradition has three dimensions at once; historical dimension, categorized ashadith Sirah; juridical dimension, identified as hadith Ahk} am; and historical and juridical dimension aswell. For this latter form, the hadith can be flexible and conditional, in the sense that when it is containedin the literature historiography, categorized as h}adith Sirah, and vice versa, as contained in the Hadithliterature in the form of juridical -dogmatic,- it is categorized as a hadith al-Ah}kam. Therefore, thehadith sira patterned in two functions; justification prophetic treatise (dala’ il Nabawiyya); and juridical -dogmatic arguments (dala’il diniyyah). These two functions are the implications of the concept ofimitation of the Prophet as an integral whole, because its realization as a model of humanity , philosophicallycould not limited by space and time. Life events and behaviors Nabawiyya being operatedfrom childhood until the prophetic, always maintained from disobedience (‘ismah) , in addition to alsoendowed a number of advantages , as a sign that he is a ‘candidate’ prophets and apostles (irhas)

Abstract

The Qurānic Studies have long recognized the conceptual dichotomy of Makkīyah and Madanīyah where verses are classified as either belonging to the period of Makkah or Madinah. This paper suggests that this conceptual dichotomy may also be applied in the study of the science of the prophetic saying (hadīth). We propose that paradigm of the Qurānic Studies concerning the periodical distinction may be borrowed to understand and classify the prophetic sayings along the line of Makkīyah and Madanīyah. The paper however acknowledges this effort is not without methodological difficulties. There are hadīth that may ?in terms of their characteristics and substance- be regarded as Makkī, but may also be considered as Madani because they are narrated by the people of Madinah (the Ansār). To tackle this problem, we propose a double-way strategy. We will first find out which hadīths are regarded as Makk? in terms of their characteristics and substance, and then examine the idea of what many have called the ?argumentation of the prophetic term?. The first is about the thematic study, while the second is about the analysis of the term of a hadīth. The first will involve the consultation of mainly the hadīth authoritative book called Miftāh Kunūz al-Sunnah, while the second will consult those books that employ the personal-encyclopedic approach including books of hadīth, the sciences of the Qurān (tafsīr), the reason of revelation (asbāb al-nuzūl), the reason of decreeing (asbāb al-wurūd), and the autobiography of the prophet (sīrah). The meaning of a hadīth and its appropriation in these books will be analyzed in the light of the science of hadīth. The paper will examine how different scientists of tafsir, hadīth, and so on would understand and interpret the same hadīth.

Abstract

Historically, the study of hadith in Islam emerged as the study of sîrah. Both of these disciplines appear as awareness and concern of the classical Muslim scholars to the purity and preservation of the historical mission of the Prophet Muhammad. The contribution of hadith to the formation of Islamic historiography in general, is not only just limited to the provision of material which is enormous for writing sîrah, but also has implications for the formation of Islamic historiography writing methods, such as the method isnâd as a character of hadith expert, and the chronological method as the character of historians. Al-Tabaqât al-Kabîr by Ibn Sa‘d (w. 230 H.) is considered as a pioneering work that elaborates on two systems. Even when viewed as an integrative, the works of Ibn Sa‘d regarded as the only one pioneering work who elaborates three forms of historiography at once (sîrah, maghâzî, and asmâ’ al-rijâl). Collaborative forms of Islamic historiography in the works of Ibn Sa‘d is certainly a new breakthrough in the classical historiography art which is in previously only in fragmentary form.
