Abstract

Capture fisheries are one of the most contributing sectors in producing fishery products. The fourfinger threadfin (Eleutheronema tetradactylum) is one of the key commodities in the capture fisheries sector of Pasuruan City. The catch yield of this species is influenced by the mesh size of the gillnet used. This study aimed to determine the effect of different mesh sizes on the catch yield of fourfinger threadfin and to identify the most effective mesh size. The research was conducted using an experimental fishing method with a Randomized Block Design (RBD) comprising three gillnet mesh size treatments: 1.75 inches, 2.5 inches, and 4 inches, with nine fishing trips. Data on catch weight and number were analyzed using a One-Way ANOVA followed by the Least Significant Difference (LSD) test. The ANOVA results showed an F-value of 10.083 with a significance level of 0.001 (p-value < 0.05), indicating a significant difference in the catch weight of fourfinger threadfin (Eleutheronema tetradactylum) among the mesh size treatments. This finding suggests that mesh size has a significant effect on catch weight, with the 2.5-inch mesh size being the most effective for catching fourfinger threadfin in the Madura Strait, as it produced the optimal catch weight compared to 1.75-inch and 4-inch mesh sizes.

Abstract

Bluru Kidul Village is an area located near the northeastern coast of Sidoarjo, where its geographical position provides significant benefits for the community. Consequently, the majority of residents work as fishermen and live side by side with the marine ecosystem. Due to the existence of Bluru Kidul Village, Sidoarjo City is often referred to as a fisheries or coastal city. The fish resources in these waters are dominated by small pelagic fish, large pelagic fish, and demersal fish. One of the most widely used fishing gears is the gill net. This study applied treatments with soaking durations of 2 hours, 3 hours, and 4 hours. The objectives of this research were to identify the composition of gill net catches, analyze the effect of different soaking times on gill net catches, and determine the optimal soaking duration for catching Indian mackerel (Rastrelliger) using gill nets. Data analysis was conducted using statistical methods, including analysis of variance (ANOVA) and normality tests to ensure data suitability. To determine whether soaking duration had a significant effect, a further statistical test, namely the Least Significant Difference (LSD) test, was applied to identify which soaking time produced the best catch of Indian mackerel. The results indicated that there were significant differences in catch variables between the 4-hour treatment and the 3-hour and 2-hour treatments, whereas the difference between the 3-hour and 2-hour treatments was not significant. This finding demonstrates that the 4-hour soaking duration resulted in significantly different catch outcomes compared to the 3-hour and 2-hour durations, but no significant difference was observed between the 3-hour and 2-hour treatments.

Abstract

Bungus waters, located in Padang City, are one of the important fisheries centers in western Indonesia with high diversity of demersal and pelagic fish species. Bottom longline is an environmentally friendly passive fishing gear widely used by fishers in these waters. This study aimed to determine the effect of different bait types used in bottom longline fishing gear on fish catch in Bungus waters. The method employed was experimental fishing using a Randomized Block Design (RBD), with three bait treatments, namely tuna, scad, and small squid, each replicated nine times. Catch data were analyzed using Analysis of Variance (ANOVA) followed by the Least Significant Difference (LSD) test. The results showed that differences in bait type had a highly significant effect on fish catch (F_calculated > F_table at the 1% level). Squid bait produced the highest catch with an average of 10.26 kg (41%), followed by scad at 8.1 kg (33%) and tuna at 6.52 kg (26%). The catch composition was dominated by grouper (44%), snapper (18%), threadfin bream (10%), and kurisi (9%). The use of squid bait was proven to be the most effective in increasing the productivity of bottom longline fishing gear in Bungus waters, Padang, West Sumatra.

Abstract

The purpose of this study was to determine the effect of different doses of Lactobacillus in feed on the absolute weight growth of whiteleg shrimp (Litopenaeus Vannamei) doc 50 days. The study was conducted for 30 days at CV. Sukses Indah Prima. The research method used was an experimental method with a completely randomized design (CRD) using 4 treatments and 6 replications. The treatments were as follows: treatment A. without the addition of biolacto probiotics; treatment B. addition of biolacto probiotics 50 ml / kg of feed; treatment C addition of biolacto dose 70 ml / kg of feed; treatment D addition of biolacto probiotics 90 ml / kg of feed. Absolute weight growth data were analyzed using one way ANOVA 5%. The results of the ANOVA test showed that the difference in biolacto doses in feed had a very significant effect on the absolute weight growth of whiteleg shrimp (Litopenaeus Vannamei) doc 50 days and B) Treatment D biolacto dose 90 ml / kg of feed is the optimal dose, providing absolute weight growth of vannamei shrimp with an average of 9.37 grams.

Abstract

Tegal possesses substantial capture fisheries potential, supported by the availability of adequate human resources and appropriate infrastructure. One of the most commonly utilized fishing gears at the Tegalsari Nusantara Fishing Port is the pocket seine net. This study was conducted to evaluate the environmental friendliness of pocket seine fishing gear operated by fishermen at the Tegalsari Nusantara Fishing Port and to analyze the composition of the catch produced by this gear. The research employed a survey method using a questionnaire instrument based on nine criteria for environmentally friendly fishing gear. The respondents in this study were fishermen operating pocket seine net, and the number of respondents was determined using the Slovin formula. Data were processed using descriptive analysis. Meanwhile, the catch composition data were analyzed using the comparative method. The results of the fishing gear friendliness assessment indicate that the pocket seine gear used by fishermen at the Tegalsari Nusantara Fishing Port falls within the environmentally friendly category, with an indicator score ranging from 19 to 27. The catch composition of pocket seine gear comprises 12 species, which are classified into main catch and bycatch. All captured species possess economic value; consequently, no catch is discarded.

Abstract

The purpose of this study is to determine the effectiveness of using light sticks and without lights on catching ribbonfish from the number of catches. The method used in this study is an experimental fishing method with data analysis using the T test. This study was conducted in the waters of Pasongsongan Sumenep. The results of the ribbonfish catch during 16 trips with light sticks totaled 163 fish, while those without lights totaled 67 fish. The type of ribbonfish caught was dominated by the Trichiurus lepturus species. From the catch results, a T test analysis was carried out and the results of the Paired samples test showed a sig. value (2-tailed) of 0.000 <0.05, which means there is a significant difference in the number of catches in the use of light sticks and without lights placed on the fishing hook position. This is because ribbonfish have phototactic properties towards light, in addition to searching for food more dominantly using the sense of sight.

Abstract

The fishing gear operated by fishermen along the coast of Grajagan Beach to catch fish is a bottom gill net, using different mesh sizes of 3, 4, and 6 inches. The method used in this study was the Experimental Fishing method, which involved direct observation over nine repetitions using different mesh sizes. Observations were conducted on the quantity of fish caught, and direct interviews were carried out with fishermen regarding the use of gill nets at Grajagan Beach, Banyuwangi, East Java. The composition of the catch showed that the largest proportion by weight was shovel-nosed ray, accounting for 15%, while lobster represented the highest number of individuals caught, at 12%. To determine whether there was an effect of mesh size on the catch yield, an ANOVA test was conducted and produced significant results, indicating that differences in mesh size significantly influenced the catch. In this study, a follow-up (Post Hoc) test was also performed using Tukey’s Honest Significant Difference (HSD) test. The results of the post hoc test showed that the use of a 6-inch mesh size had a substantial effect on the catch yield.
