Abstract

Covid-19 is an infectious disease that will become a global pandemic in 2020. To reduce the transmission rate, WHO has issued various recommendations for the community, such as the use of masks, regular hand washing, coughing and sneezing etiquette, keeping a distance between people, avoiding crowded places, and others. The existence of public restrictions creates new problems for patients because of difficulties in seeking treatment. Telemedicine is a form of telehealth, which is a health service that is carried out remotely. This technology makes it easier for patients to interact with doctors without having to meet face to face. The purpose of this study was to determine the level of satisfaction of users of telemedicine services at RSIA Stella Maris Medan. The type of research used is non-experimental quantitative with a quantitative analytical study design. The population and samples used were 186 users of telemedicine services at RSIA Stella Maris. The results showed that users considered the features of the availability of options to be able to choose the treating doctor, the confidentiality of medical records, the stability of the internet network, the friendly and ready to help the attitude of the nurses, and the long waiting time for the drug delivery process as the most important features of each service dimension. To improve the quality of RSIA Stella Maris telemedicine services, many features are a priority to be improved, as well as features are maintained.

Abstract

Dengue is a disease caused by dengue virus (DENV) that is transmitted mainly by the female Aedes aegypti mosquito. There are four serotypes of DEN, leading to a possibility that a person may be infected four times by this virus, albeit with different serotypes. Recovery from infection with one viral serotype provides lifelong immunity to the same serotype but not to the other serotypes. Secondary infection by other serotypes increases the risk of developing severe dengue. The pathogenesis of severe dengue involves apoptosis of microvascular endothelial cells that leads to plasma leakage. In addition, there is usually a decrease in platelets and leukocytes and an increase in hematocrit. This study aimed to compare the results of the CD95L examination involved in the apoptotic process and the results of blood tests in primary and secondary dengue patients. This was a cross-sectional study performed in a four months period  (September–December 2019) involving several clinics and doctor's private practices in Medan, Indonesia. Subjects were eighty-four dengue patients, consisting of 18 (21%) patients with primary infection and 66 (79%) with secondary infection. Data collected were tested with the Mann Whitney test with p-value of <0.05 considered significant. A significant difference (p value=0.007) was observed in the lymphocyte counts between primary and secondary dengue patients, but no differences were seen in CDL95 level, platelet count, leukocyte count, and hematocrit. In conclusion, except for the lymphocyte count, there is no difference in CD95L level and blood test results between primary and secondary dengue patients.

Abstract

A. lumbricoides infection is one from 17 neglected tropical diseases in Indonesia. But, Infection of A. lumbricoides in Indonesia often undiagnosed. This is because stool examination with Kato-Katz's method still rarely done. So it needs something alternative examination that more practical and can be routinely carried out. This study was a diagnostic test for blood eosinofil levels in diagnosing A. lumbricoides infection. This research was conducted at a hospital in Medan. This study involved 63 children who had their parents approval. Children stool were examined by Kato-Katz method as a gold standard and blood eosinofil levels was examined as an index in this study. The results showed sensitivity level of eosinofil is 25% and specificity 96,08%, positive predictive value 60%, negative predictive value 84%, positive likelihood ratio 6,38% and negative likelihood ratio 0,78%. The conclusion is elevated blood eosinofil levels cannot be used as an alternative test Kato-Katz in diagnosing Infection of A. lumbricoides.

Abstract

Introduction: The ubiquity of digital devices in the lives of high school students has raised concerns about the potential impact on their visual health. Computer vision syndrome (CVS), a constellation of eye and vision-related problems, has been linked to prolonged digital screen use. This study aimed to investigate the relationship between gadget use intensity and the prevalence and severity of CVS in high school students. Methods: A cross-sectional study was conducted involving a sample of high school students. Data on gadget use intensity (hours per day) and CVS symptoms were collected through validated questionnaires. The Computer Vision Symptom Scale (CVSS) was used to assess the severity of CVS. Statistical analyses were performed to examine the association between gadget use intensity and CVS prevalence and severity. Results: The study found a significant positive correlation between gadget use intensity and the prevalence and severity of CVS in high school students. Students who reported higher levels of gadget use were more likely to experience CVS symptoms and exhibit greater symptom severity. Conclusion: The findings underscore the importance of promoting healthy gadget use habits among high school students. Interventions aimed at reducing screen time and encouraging regular breaks may be crucial in mitigating the risk of CVS and its associated visual discomfort.
