Abstract

This study aims to analyze the implementation of the sustainable tourism concept based on local wisdom in Tomboan Ngawonggo, Malang Regency, East Java. The research focuses on the application of the four pillars of sustainable tourism based on the indicators issued by the Ministry of Tourism and Creative Economy (Regulation No. 9 of 2021), namely sustainable management, socio-cultural sustainability, economic sustainability, and environmental sustainability. This study employs a qualitative descriptive approach using in-depth interviews, observation, and documentation techniques. The informants include tourism managers (Pokdarwis), local community members, and other relevant stakeholders. The findings are expected to provide a comprehensive understanding of the practices, processes, and meanings of sustainable tourism implementation in Tomboan Ngawonggo. From a socio-cultural perspective, mutual cooperation values and the preservation of local traditions serve as the main foundation of tourism management. Economically, the donation- based system and the empowerment of local micro-enterprises reflect efforts toward benefit distribution, although financial sustainability remains a challenge. Environmentally, there is a commitment to conservation through limiting plastic use and maintaining natural vegetation; however, structured environmental management systems are still limited. This study contributes theoretically to the development of community-based sustainable tourism studies and provides practical recommendations for sustainabe destination management.
