Abstract

Presumptive tax policy is implemented internationally in common in order to ease the SME’s tax administration. Firms have an opportunity to respond or not to a certain tax policy in order to get lower tax burdens. There is a presumptive tax policy implemented in Indonesia which affects firms’ behavior in gaining and reporting their incomes. Firms tend to choose to have their incomes below the threshold that has lower tax burdens. As a developing country, Indonesia has certain firms’ charactheristics and systems that differs from developed country’ firms so there is a necessity to know that the responses of Indonesian firms regarding the implementation of presumptive tax policy. This study aims to analyze firms’ responses regarding presumptive tax implementation especially in Indonesia with a certain threshold of IDR 4.8 billion since 2013. This study uses the bunching estimation method dan firms’ tax return data from 2011 to 2016, that differs from other studies in which use survey data. Our study concludes that the presumptive tax implementation based on turnover value induces negative bunching phenomenon in Indonesia due to the lower tax burden for firms whose turnover value is above the threshold. This negative bunching indicated by the results of significant bunching estimation analysis in the period after the presumptive tax policy implemented. In contrast to the developed country’ firms, Indonesian firms tend to stay above the threshold, rather than below, to gain lower tax burden.

Abstract

Indonesia has enormous tourism potential. This potential is spread throughout almost all regions of Indonesia. However, until now Indonesian tourism is only synonymous with Bali. Development of other destinations besides Bali (non-Bali destinations) has begun to take place in almost all parts of Indonesia due to the economic potential of tourism which can drive the region's economy. Although not as many as Bali, foreign tourists have visited non-Bali destinations. This proves that non-Bali destinations also have the potential to be developed due to tourism demand from tourists. This research aims to profile foreign tourists for non-Bali destinations as one of the steps in developing tourism marketing according to the National Tourism Development Master Plan 2010-2025. In conclusion, tourists who visit non-Bali destinations are predominantly male and repeater

Abstract

Various problems regarding the distribution of revolving funds at the Ministry of Cooperatives and SMEs have prompted the government to transfer its management through LPDB-KUMKM (Revolving Fund Management Institution for Cooperatives and MSMEs) for the sake of financial accountability and professionalism. Several improvements have been made, among others, through collateral and service rates that have never been applied before. The service rate was applied first, with a value lower than the bank interest rate. This study examines the impact of collateral and service rates on the loan default rates. This study uses data of loan developments of LPDB-KUMKM partners from the beginning to 2018. The Logit Regression Model is used to support the analysis. This study's results indicate that collateral has a negative correlation with the growth in loan default rates. This study's results are expected to be taken into consideration by the government in regulating financing needs, especially regarding collateral and service rates, so that the accessibility of MSMEs to obtain financing from LPDB-KUMKM will increase.

Abstract

Some previous studies have found that there are positive impacts of the broadband adoption on social change and economic growth. Those findings have prompted the Indonesian government to develop and stipulate the Indonesian Broadband Plan which contains guidelines and directions for national broadband development. However, the efforts are more devoted to the achievement strategy of supply side. Meanwhile, demand side gets insufficient attention. This paper seeks to fulfill this gap by investigating the socioeconomic attributes that explain the LTE adoption, as one of the broadband technologies, among Indonesian society. We also include monthly data consumption and subscription type as explanatory variables to the proposed model. Data collection was carried out through a survey by the Research and Development Center for Post and Informatics, Ministry of Communication and Information Technology in 2016. We utilize descriptive statistical analysis to describe respondents' profile, and binary logistic regression analysis to examine the statistical significance of independent variables against the dependent variable. The study confirmed that gender, education, economic level, and subscription type have a significant role in explaining the adoption of the new emerging mobile broadband service, especially the adoption of LTE based service in Indonesia.

Abstract

This paper focuses on the dynamic of the portfolio flows into Indonesia. The result of Structural Vector Autoregression (SVAR) model reveals that push factors is more dominant than pull factors in explaining portfolio flows into Indonesia. Portfolio flows into Indonesia are positively correlated with regional’s stock market performance and negatively correlated to the federal funds rate. On the pull factors, domestic risk (the Credit Default Swap spread) is more dominant than domestic return (the BI rate) in explaining the flows. Thus, it is important for authorities to have more focus on domestic risk–relative to rate of return–in managing portfolio flows. In addition, the negative impact of the lagged Indonesia stock market index to the capital flows indicates a counter cyclical investment behavior of global investors.

Abstract

The empowerment of Persons with Disabilities (PWD) has recently attracted the attention of the Indonesian government. Several initiatives have been made to empower their life, especially the establishment of Act No. 8/2016 which enhances their right to inclusive economic activities. This study aims to map PWD in Indonesian labor market. Specifically, it analyzes the characteristics of employed and unemployed PWD. It explored Labor Force Survey (Sakernas), which began to concern on disability issue in 2016. The results show that PWD prevalence varies highly among provinces led by West Sumatera, East Nusa Tenggara, and South Sulawesi and that PWD has lower labor participation rate than that of PWOD. It may indicate the significant presence of discouraged workers among PWD.

Abstract

Bank has a vital role as an intermediary institution that can encourage economic growth in countries. However, many banks have started expanding non-interest income activity based on income from fees. This study discusses the factors associated with non-interest income, especially during the banking digitalization era. Banks may rely on non-interest income in dire economic conditions when credit demand drops. However, if banks continue to rely on non-interest income in good economic conditions, they hamper their intermediation function. Therefore, it is essential to know the association between loan to deposit ratio (LDR) as a proxy of intermediation function with non-interest income in good economic and dire economic conditions. This study uses panel data with fixed effect model regression on banks from 10 Asian countries. The estimation result shows that the loan to deposit ratio is negatively correlated with non-interest income in good and dire economic conditions. Thus, there is an indication that banks have more and more shifting to non-intermediation services.

Abstract

This study aims to analyze the demand for food among Indonesian households, consisting of foods prepared at home (FPAH) and food away from home (FAFH). Utilizing longitudinal data from the National Socioeconomic Survey 2011-2013, combined with the Village Potential Statistics, the study estimates the demand with the Linear Approximated Almost Ideal Demand System (LA/AIDS). The results show that both FPAH and FAFH are normal goods, but FAFH is more elastic than FPAH. Additionally, in terms of income elasticity, we found that households show stronger responses in consumption on FAFH, compared to FPAH. We also present heterogeneity analysis on different types of household characteristics.
