Abstract

This research is motivated by the desire to find out the responses of the traineesto the quality of classroom action research (PTK) training conducted by IKIP Budi Utomo Malang. For that reason, the three research questions were proposed, namely first, how are the trainees' responses to the trainers’ competency? Second, how are the trainees’ understandingof the training material? Third, how are the trainees’ responsesto the quality of training? Data collection uses questionnaires, then analyzed by descriptive techniques, and the results are as follows. First, trainees' responses to trainers’ competencyare in Good category. This is evidenced by the average oftrainees’ answers in the range above 70% of interval scale, concerning skills competency, material delivery, giving instructions, and trainees’ responses. Second, the trainees' understanding of the training material is quite sufficient, because it is in the range 40% of interval scale. This is caused by many factors, even though the competence of the trainers have met the standards of feasibility. Third, the quality of the training is included in the Good category, because 71% of 100 trainees stated Good. This shows that the performance of the training has reached a feasiblestandard.

Abstract

The rise of cases of violence against minors causes concern for parents. Sexual violence against children is not only perpetrated by people we do not know, but can occur from those closest to us. Therefore, it is very important for parents to teach sex education to their children from a young age. The objectives of this program were to provide information, understand, and provide experiences about sex education for children at PAUD Al-Ihsan Malang Regency with the parents as the target. This program ran through socialization and training where parents got information about communicating simple sex education for early childhood with materials: seven aspects of children's education in Islam and modern education, the concept of "where do I come from?", and apply simple sex education in daily life. This program had been successfully proven by the parents’ enthusiasm in asking questions, sharing experiences, discussing, and practicing communication

Abstract

Innovation in teaching listening is urgently needed. This study resulted the questionnaire survey of students’ needs of listening subject. These results were compared to the students’ mid-term results and Basic Listening learning outcomes. The survey was completed by 100 first-year English Education students. The analysis and comparison were objected to find out the answers of these questions: what barriers obstructed the progress of the students’ listening skill? And what were the students’ listening skills needs? The study found that there is an interstice between students’ needs and the learning got in relating to listening comprehension. Hence, this study expected that the its findings can help to grant preferable understanding of the students’ needs and developing the curriculum properly.

Abstract

The purpose of this study is to determine the language attitude of the younger generation of Javanese in the city of Malang to the variety of Javanese Krama Madya. Data were obtained from young Javanese aged 17-27 years who live in Malang City with various backgrounds, ranging from students, teachers, government agency employees to traders, by distributing questionnaires, interviews, and direct observations in the field. The data obtained will be analyzed using a tripartite structure of attitudes: cognitive, affective, and behavioral, which are reflected in two language attitudes, namely attitudes towards the language which emphasize a sense of responsibility and respect for language, and language attitudes which emphasize language mastery and orderly use of language. Of the eight indicators used to determine language attitudes, six showed negative attitudes, while only two were positive).

Abstract

The objective of the research is to analyse the students percetion on lectures language style used in daily communication. There are five types of language styles, namely frozen, formal, consultative, casual and intimate. In the world of learning, especially in tertiary institutions, the language style used by a lecturer is one of the determining factors for student success. However, the determining factor for the success of a student in learning can not only be seen from the language style of a lecturer but also from the perceptions of the students. It is because of that the authors are interested in analyzing students' perceptions of the style of language used by a lecturer in class at STKIP PGRI Trenggalek. This research is a descriptive study using a qualitative method in which the population is students majoring in English education at STKIP PGRI Trenggalek in the 2022/2023 academic year. Participants were selected using purposive sampling, while the instrument in this study was a questionnaire. The results of this study in general were that students had a pretty good perception (832.4) of the style of language used by lecturers in class with the highest score in the consultative style of 1274 and the lowest score in the intimate style of 369.

Abstract

This study aims to reveal the use of directive speech acts of multicultural students studying in Malang City in the context of politeness. Qualitative descriptive is the method used in this study. Five tribes are the subject of this research, namely Java, Sumba, Flores, Dayak, and Madura. Data were collected using questionnaires, interviews, and observations. The data obtained were analyzed based on how they used directive demand speech act in different situations in the realm of family, friendship, and school and how they minimized the FTA that might occur when facing different speech partners. The results of this study indicate that from the four aspects that become the parameters of this study, multicultural students in using directive speech acts have the following pattern. In the aspect of direct/indirect speech acts, in three different domains, all multicultural students use direct speech acts and the honorific aspect. The use of hedge aspects is more widely used in the campus domain. Meanwhile, in the aspect of speech level, only Javanese and Madurese students use it.

Abstract

As a product of creativity, slang continuously raises in society used to mark social and cultural differences. This study aims to discover terms of slang used by the community of public transportation drivers in Kacuk Malang, the process of its formation, the meaning it refers to, and the purpose of its usage. Qualitative design is used as the research method by using the following steps in collecting and analyzing data. The observation was done to gain information about using slang in conversation among public transportation drivers and followed up by interviewing ten drivers. The study found that Slang was used for a variety of purposes. Initially, as their code language. As a language for jokes, second. Third, they use Bahasa Jawa (Javanese language) as words or supplementary language to keep the discourse fresh and further demonstrate their Kacuk community identity. Fifth, as a way to get to know one another better. The final one was for their regular discussions.

Abstract

There are various kinds of strategies and methods in language learning. Music is one the strategy that can be applied. The aim of this research is to determine the effect of slow music on students' English listening skills. The method of this research is Classroom action research. The subjects of this research were 27 students of the History and Sociology Department of IKIP Budi Utomo. The results of this research explain that the application of slow music has a significant and positive impact on listening ability for the students of History and Sociology Department of IKIP Budi Utomo. Students' response and activeness in learning is very good, their accuracy in pronouncing the words, understanding native speech, and their English vocabulary have increased. Students become more focused in learning because they participate in the teaching and learning process happily without feeling afraid or burdened.

Abstract

The outbreak of the Covid-19 virus has had an impact not only on the decline of the people's economy but also on the education system in Indonesia. As a result, the learning process is shifted to online learning. The application of online learning is inseparable from various problems, not only concerning facilities and infrastructure but also regarding the goals of education itself. The purpose of this study was to determine the problems of the application of online learning, especially in the affective and psychomotor domains. This research is a qualitative descriptive study. Sources of data obtained through interviews with research subjects in STKIP PGRI Trenggalek. The results obtained indicate that the problems in the application of online learning in the affective and psychomotor domains concern student learning interests, the value of honesty and a sense of student responsibility, and student discipline. Meanwhile, in the psychomotor realm, the problem found is related to the implementation of English lecturer practice or assessment of student skills.
