Abstract

Rice (Oryza sativa L.) is one of important crops in current era because the crop produce staple food for more than half of world population. Rice cultivation has been facing many obstacles to reach the expected yield. One the causes is the attack of rice pests causing damages on vegetative and generative stages of the crop, and these would lead to yield reduction. The purpose of this research was to determine the method of cultivating rice plants and arthropods and the level of pest attack. This research was carried out in May 2021 with a survey method on five different rice fields in Bumi Agung Village by interviewing farmers to obtain information about farmers' behavior in rice cultivation and observing insect pests in rice plantations. The results obtained from field practice were the discovery of three pests in rice plants, namely Oxya chinensis, Acrida cinerea, dan Atherigona sp. The control carried out by farmers in controlling pest attacks is in the form of jajar legowo, technical culture such as land management, fertilization, weeding and others which are included in integrated pest control (IPM).From the observational data analyzed that the application of integrated pest control (IPM) has proven to have an impact on reducing pest attacks where out of 5 paddy fields that were observed, the 5th land belonging to Mr. Agus was found to have few insect pests and weeds in his rice fields with an average of 0%.

Abstract

Pestisida adalah zat khusus untuk memberantas, mencegah atau membasmi gangguan serangga, binatang pengerat, nematoda, cendawan, gulma, virus, bakteri, jasad renik yang dianggap hama yang merugikan. Penggunaan pestisida yang berlebihan dapat menyebabkan resistensi hama, resurjensi hama, munculnya hama sekunder, dan pencemaran lingkungan. Penelitian ini bertujuan untuk melakukan evaluasi penggunaan pestisida oleh petani dalam mengendalikan hama dan penyakit pada pertanaman hortikultura di Kabupaten Bangka, Provinsi Kepulauan Bangka Belitung. Penelitian ini disusun berdasarkan wawancara dan hasil observasi pada lahan pertanaman petani hortikultura. Hasil yang didapatkan dari wawancara dan observasi tersebut menunjukkan bahwa petani masih banyak menggunakan pestisida sintetik dengan tidak bijak dalam mengendalikan hama dan penyakit tanaman yang dibudidayakan. Dalam penggunaan pestisida, petani masih mengandalkan pengalaman pribadinya dibandingkan dengan ilmu pengetahuan. Rata-rata petani belum memahami penggunaan pestisida yang baik dan benar sehingga tidak mengerti mengenai ambang ekonomi dalam menggunakan pestisida. Kesimpulannya, petani masih beranggapan bahwa semakin banyak jenis pestisida yang digunakan, maka semakin cepat untuk mengendalikan hama dan penyakit tanaman. Dengan demikian, perlu adanya penyuluhan tentang penggunaan pestisida pada petani, sehingga petani dapat memahami cara penggunaan pestisida dengan bijak untuk kedepannya. Spesies hama dan penyakit yang menyerang tanaman hortikultura yaitu, 13 spesies hama dan 11 spesies penyakit.

Abstract

Livestock waste becomes a problem and disturbs the community environment. In addition to the odor generated, it causes an unclean environment. Livestock waste is a problem for the people of Jungkal Village, Pampangan District, Ogan Komering Ilir Regency, South Sumatra. Good environmental management must be a priority. Therefore, livestock waste must be utilized to create a healthy environment. The purpose of this activity was to explain the use of livestock waste as a medium to produce bio-insecticides made from the active Bacillus thuringiensis bacteria. The target community was a farmer group in Jungkal Village. Activities were carried out in two ways, namely socialization activities and practical activities to produce bio-insecticide with active B. thuringiensis. Preliminary data showed that farmers were aware that livestock waste causes discomfort. Handling both liquid and solid waste has yielded little results because, so far, farmers have only gotten rid of this waste without using it as a helpful product. After the community service activities were completed, 80% of the participants understood the benefit of livestock waste. With an intensive approach and assistance, farmer groups can receive new directions.

Abstract

Corn (Zea mays L.) is one of the most important food crop commodities in the world after rice and wheat. In some countries, corn is the main source of carbohydrates. However, pests and diseases are the main obstacles to maize production in the tropics and sub-tropics. There are two main diseases that have the potential to reduce maize production, including leaf rust and leaf blight. leaf rust disease can reduce production up to 70% Leaf rust disease is caused by Puccinia Sp. Leaf blight can cause yield losses of up to 50%. Leaf blight is caused by Helminthosporium turcicum. Therefore, combined control is needed to minimize the impact, namely by applying the concept of integrated disease management. This study aims to determine evaluate integrated disease control that has been carried out by several farmers in Suka Menang village, Gelumbang District, Muara Enim Regency. The results of field practice show that most of the corn farmers in Suka Menang Village, Glummbang District, Muara Enim Regency have implemented the concept of integrated disease management. In the implementation process, farmers are not aware that what they are doing is included in the control. There are 2 types of diseases that attack corn plants, namely, Puccinia sp. and Helminthosporium turcicum.

Abstract

In the North Indralaya sub-district, annual crop agriculture, including annuals, melons, and watermelons, relies on conventional cultivation methods using expensive synthetic chemical fertilizers and pesticides to enhance production and combat pests and diseases. This community service initiative aims to educate and implement integrated control practices for sustainable annual crop cultivation while providing knowledge on pest and disease management in Tanjung Seteko Village, Indralaya District, Ogan Ilir Regency. The project, part of Sriwijaya University's integrated community service program, seeks to transform the village into a vegetable center in Ogan Ilir. The activities involve socializing integrated control methods through focused group discussions, practical sessions on biostimulant preparation, and field application. Farmers actively participate, posing questions about optimal annual crop cultivation and integrated control solutions. Preliminary results indicate that combining biostimulants with integrated control effectively manages pests and plant diseases. Continued intensive support aims to enable farmers in Tanjung Seteko village to adopt integrated control practices successfully, contributing to the village's potential as a vegetable center in Ogan Ilir.
