Abstract

Kata kunci: eksplorasi, karakterisasi, aksesi, jagung Manado Kuning Abstract The purpose of this study was to collect and evaluate Manadonese yellow corn cobs and grain based on the morphological characteristics. The study was carried out in two stages, i.e. the exploration for collecting corn cobs Manado Yellow and the evaluation of accession Manadonese yellow corn based on cobs and grain morphological characteristics. The exploration was conducted between late August 2013 and December 2013 in the production centre. The production centre is the area that is traditionally planted corn yellow Manado and the area that used corn as the staple food. The determination of the location was carried out in collaboration with the Department of Agriculture of North Sulawesi and the district/city extension agents. The passport data was made of the results of the cobs data collection. The evaluated morphological characteristics included the arrangement and the number of the seed row, the color and type of seeds. The data was analyzed using SPSS software program to group maize accessions. The exploration resulted in 28 accessions. Based on the morphological characterization of cobs and seeds at the genetic similarity of 75%, there were 2 groups of Manadonese yellow corn. Group I consisted of 6 accessions and group II consisted of 22 accessions. The same as in the initial description, Manadonese yellow corn with flint grain type was grouped itself in 95% genetic similarity, i.e. the group IV that was consisted of 13 accessions. Abstract

The objective of the study was to assess the application of crop cultivation technology and productivity of paddy rice in Dumoga District, Bolaang Mongondow Regency, North Sulawesi Province. The research was conducted from November to December 2022. The research was located in Dumoga District, Bolaang Mongondow Regency, North Sulawesi Province. This research was qualitative research by conducting surveys and interviews with 30 farmers in Dumoga Subdistrict using a prepared questionnaire, including the identity of farmers, farming conditions and cultivation techniques of paddy rice in Dumoga Subdistrict (North Mopugad Main Village, North Mopugad 1, North Mopugad, South Mopugad, South Mopugad 1, South Mopuya, and Amertabuana). The research location was determined by purposive sampling, namely Dumoga Sub-district, Bolaang Mongondow Regency, with the consideration that the area is the center of paddy rice production in North Sulawesi. The data analysis used was a qualitative descriptive analysis technique. The data obtained were then processed and tabulated in the form of tables and diagrams. The results showed that the application of paddy rice cultivation technology carried out by farmers in Dumoga District included the application of land preparation using a hand tractor, a single planting pattern, a direct seed planting system of direct seed planting (Tabela), the spacing used was 20×20 cm, fertilization using fertilizers (Urea, Phonska, TSP and SP36), water sources came from irrigation irrigation, pest control using pesticide active ingredients and harvesting already using harvesting machines, and paddy rice production in Dumoga District reached 4 tons of GKG, with a productivity of 1.6 tons/ha.

Abstract

This research was conducted to clustering Siau nutmeg based on the characters of fruit weight, fruit length, fruit width, flesh thickness, seed weight, seed length, seed width, and mace weight. The research was conducted using the Survey Method. The survey was conducted in nutmeg gardens owned by farmers in the village: 1) Dompas, 2) Kanawong, 3) Tanaki, 4) Deahe, 5) Bahu, 6) Lagaeng, 7) Dame, 8) Batusenggo, 9) Batubulan, and 10) Pangilolong . Determination of village based on harvested area. The data were analyzed in clusters using the SPSS Statistical Analysis Program. The grouping was done using the agglomerative method. The two most similar populations of nutmeg will be grouped into one, then will be grouped again with other populations that are most similar. Based on the character of the fruit, seeds, and mace, Siau nutmeg can be grouped into three groups. Group 1 consists of Bahu, Lagaeng, Dame, and Batusenggo populations. Nutmeg in these villages has a fruit weight of 55.7 g, an average seed weight of 9.9 g and a mace weight of 1.5 g. Group 2 consisted of Dompas, Kanawong, Tanaki, and Deahe populations. Nutmeg in these villages has a fruit weight of 46.2 g, an average seed weight of 8.3 g, and a mace weight of 1.7 g. Group 3 consisting of Batubulan and Pangilolong populations. Nutmeg in these villages has a fruit weight of 35.80 g, a seed weight of 6.6 g, and a mace of 1.04 g.

Abstract

The fall armyworm, Spodoptera frugiperda, is an invasive pest that threatens maize production and can increase dependence on synthetic insecticides, highlighting the need for locally effective biological control options. This study screened 24 local Bacillus thuringiensis isolates for insecticidal activity against third instar S. frugiperda using a maize leaf dip feeding bioassay. For initial screening, maize leaf sections were treated with 1.5 × 10⁷ spores mL⁻¹ and offered to larvae (30 larvae per isolate), with mortality recorded up to 72 h. Isolates producing at least 50 percent mortality at 72 h were advanced to pathogenicity testing. Selected isolates were evaluated at five concentrations (1.5 × 10³ to 1.5 × 10⁷ spores mL⁻¹) to estimate LC50 at 72 h, and at 1.5 × 10⁷ spores mL⁻¹ to estimate LT50; parameters were calculated by probit analysis and reported with 95 percent fiducial limits. Ten isolates met the screening criterion, and isolate ITH produced the highest mortality (93.3 percent) at 72 h. ITH also showed the greatest pathogenicity, with an LC50 of 7.5 × 10³ spores mL⁻¹ and an LT50 of 19.5 h, indicating high potency and rapid action relative to other candidates. The results demonstrate substantial variability among local Bt isolates and identify promising strains for further development. Future work should confirm isolate identity, characterize toxin profiles, optimize production and formulation, and validate efficacy and crop protection performance under semi field and field conditions for integration into maize integrated pest management.
