Abstract

This study aims to optimize services in the laboratory by utilizing information and communication technology for all practicum requiring tools. The goal is to optimize services by developing lending and returning services using information and communication technology software. The method used is research and development by conducting experimental research and distributing questionnaires to students, technicians and educational laboratory administrators (PLP) of the use of information and communication technology. Optimization of laboratory services begins with the use of information and communication technology with the use of management information system software, then testing and applying conventional services compared to information and communication technology software in metalworking engineering laboratories. Furthermore, the service performance that has been applied is recorded and calculated to determine the optimization of changes in conventional services to information and communication technology. The questionnaire was distributed to get an assessment from users, namely students and PLP as materials for developing information and communication technology that had been used. The results of this research are 83.8% of the time efficiency of information tool services from conventional services to information and communication technology for the search for 5 tools. Equipment borrowing efficiency is 45% and tool return efficiency is 48.5%. Thus, the use of information and communication technology is optimal for use in practicum laboratories.

Abstract

The Industry 4.0 revolution has created significant skills gaps between formal education outcomes and evolving industry requirements, necessitating innovative industry-academia partnerships. This systematic literature review analyzes integrated learning models addressing these challenges. Following PRISMA guidelines, we searched Scopus, Web of Science, ERIC, and Science Direct databases (2021-2025) using keywords combinations of "industry-academia partnerships," "integrated learning models," and "vocational education." From 119 initial articles, 42 met inclusion criteria after duplicate removal and quality assessment using MMAT. Thirteen distinct learning models were identified: Competency-Based Training, Work-Integrated Learning, Work-Based Learning, Teaching Factory, Teaching Industry, Production-Based Education and Training, Cooperative Education, Vocational Pedagogy, Simulated Work Environment, Industrial Incubator, Apprenticeship Plus, School-Industry Partnership, and Technopark. Results demonstrate that strategic integration of multiple models creates more comprehensive educational ecosystems than individual implementations. A holistic framework categorizing models into five groups provides practical guidance for contextual adaptation based on institutional capacity and industry needs.

Abstract

Vocational education requires teachers to possess professional competencies that are relevant to industrial developments, including skills in weld inspection. However, most vocational high school (SMK) teachers still face limitations in understanding inspection procedures based on international standards. This condition creates a gap between the teaching process and the needs of industry, which emphasizes weld quality. Therefore, a systematic training program is needed to improve the quality of welding instruction in vocational schools. This activity aimed to strengthen the competencies of vocational school teachers in conducting weld inspections according to the American Welding Society (AWS) standards. The methods included needs assessment, delivery of theoretical materials, practice of visual inspection and non-destructive testing (NDT), as well as process and outcome evaluation. The training was implemented in a participatory manner through a combination of lectures, discussions, and hands-on practice with experienced instructors. The results indicated that teachers gained better conceptual understanding of weld inspection standards. Moreover, their technical skills in visual inspection and the application of NDT methods improved significantly. Process evaluation showed active participation and high enthusiasm among participants, while outcome evaluation demonstrated high levels of satisfaction with the instructors’ competence and the relevance of the materials to school practices. Overall, the training effectively bridged teachers’ competency gaps and enhanced the relevance of vocational learning to industry standards.

Abstract

Abstract

Work-Integrated Learning (WIL) has become essential in vocational education for bridging academic learning with workplace experience. This systematic review analyzes 61 articles on WIL frameworks published between 2019-2024 using the PRISMA protocol. The analysis identifies five main types of WIL frameworks: Competency-Based Framework (focusing on industry-relevant competencies), Integrated Evaluation Framework (emphasizing comprehensive assessment), Industry-Academic Collaborative Framework (developing effective institutional-industry partnerships), Technology-Enhanced WIL Framework (utilizing technology to expand learning experiences), and Field-Specific Pedagogical Framework (tailoring approaches to specific disciplines). Publication trends show significant growth in WIL framework research, with a peak of 17 articles in 2024, reflecting increasing recognition of work-based learning's importance. The review reveals several research gaps, including limited investigation of technology integration's long-term impact, need for multi-stakeholder evaluation approaches, frameworks that effectively combine various WIL modalities, limited understanding of cross-disciplinary framework transferability, and frameworks that systematically incorporate evolving workforce demands. These findings provide direction for future WIL framework development and implementation, Contributing to more effective integration of academic learning with practical work experience in vocational education, these findings provide valuable direction for the future development and implementation of Work-Integrated Learning frameworks.

Abstract

The implementation of the Teaching Factory in Vocational High Schools (SMK) specializing in Machining Engineering is crucial for bridging the gap between schools and industry; however, its application still faces various challenges. This study aims to identify the barriers to Teaching Factory implementation in SMK Machining Engineering programs. The method employed is a Systematic Literature Review (SLR) with a descriptive qualitative approach, analyzing six scientific articles published between 2020 and 2025, selected through the PRISMA protocol. The results indicate that the main barriers lie in managerial aspects (67%), workshop/laboratory facilities (50%), human resources (50%), learning patterns and promotion (33%), as well as products and industry collaboration (17%). Managerial barriers are the most dominant. In conclusion, the implementation of Teaching Factory in SMK Machining Engineering remains suboptimal and requires strengthened management, improved human resources, enhanced facilities, and stronger industry collaboration to support sustainable production-based learning. Therefore, it is recommended to establish a Teaching Factory management team, and develop a data-based evaluation system.
