Abstract

Prospective mathematics teachers must have the characteristics of mathematical science, namely systematic, logical, and critical. This study aims to reveal the analysis of learning obstacles experienced by prospective mathematics teachers in number theory lectures with sub-material of division relations, FPB and KPK. This research uses a qualitative approach method in descriptive form. This research was conducted by collecting data through questionnaires and interviews and validated using the triangulation method. The study was limited to the analysis of ontogenic learning obstacles according to Brosseasu. The results of this study were that 4 out of 6 research subjects experienced the occurrence of ontogenic learning obstacles with details of 37.5% of prospective teacher students experiencing psychological ontogenic obstacles and instrumental ontogenic obstacles, then 25% experiencing didactic ontogenic obstacles. This indicates that students' readiness to take part in number theory courses is still weak. Students are weak in terms of psychological readiness, weak in readiness for complete mastery of related material previously studied and weak in terms of following the thought process needed in this course.

Abstract

This qualitative descriptive study provides a comprehensive profile of scientific academic writing skills among university students enrolled in mathematics education and primary school teacher education programs. Using a self-assessment survey, 110 students evaluated their proficiency across various dimensions of scientific writing, including clarity and coherence, organization of scientific arguments, use of scientific terminology, citation and referencing, critical evaluation of literature, and independent thinking. The data were analyzed using descriptive statistics to identify trends, strengths, and areas for improvement in students' writing skills. The findings revealed that students generally feel confident in their ability to construct clear academic paragraphs and use appropriate vocabulary and tone, but struggle with higher-order writing tasks such as synthesizing information from multiple sources and organizing extended scientific texts. Many students also expressed difficulties in applying proper citation and referencing styles, particularly APA format. Key strengths identified in the study include competence in basic grammar, punctuation, and paragraph structure, while notable weaknesses were found in areas such as critical evaluation, organizing complex arguments, and correct application of citation conventions. These results suggest a need for targeted instructional interventions to help students develop the advanced scientific writing skills necessary for academic success. The study's findings contribute to the ongoing discourse on improving scientific academic writing pedagogy, offering insights for educators to better support students in mastering these critical skills.

Abstract

This research’s purpose is to develop an e-module based on students learning style to increase the numeracy skills of students. The research method used is Research and Development (RnD) method. The RnD model used in this research is ADDIE model. The result of this research is an e-module based on student’s learning style and validated with material validation mean score of 3,770 within very valid category, media validation mean score of 3,631 within very valid category, and language validation mean score of 3,167 within valid category. The validated module is then implemented and is tested based on effectivity and the N-gain score of 0,44 is gotten with the increase category of medium. Hence, it is concluded that the e-module based on students learning style can increase student’s numeracy skills.

Abstract

This study aims to analyze mathematics education students’ mastery of high school mathematical content and their readiness to teach it, as a basis for redefining the design of the Selected Topics in Mathematics Education (Kapita Selekta) course. A quantitative descriptive survey design was employed involving 14 mathematics education students at Universitas Kristen Indonesia who were enrolled in the Kapita Selekta II course. Data were collected using a questionnaire that assessed students’ mastery and willingness to learn and teach 32 high school mathematics topics. Descriptive statistics were used to determine the percentage of mastery and non-mastery for each topic. The findings reveal that only 40.13% of topics were mastered, while 59.87% showed a lack of mastery. Students demonstrated stronger understanding in algebraic and symbolic topics such as sequences, exponents, relations, and matrices, but weaker performance in geometry, trigonometry, and calculus-related topics. Despite these gaps, all respondents expressed a willingness to improve their mastery of mathematical content, with 42.9% being very willing and 57.1% willing to do so. These results suggest that the Kapita Selekta course should not be limited to topic selection based on theoretical definitions. Instead, it should be redesigned to respond to students’ actual mastery profiles and learning needs. By aligning course content with diagnostic data, the program can strengthen students’ mathematical competence and pedagogical readiness to teach effectively at the high school level.

Abstract

Prospective science teachers must master pedagogical knowledge (PK) and content knowledge (CK), commonly referred to as Pedagogical Content Knowledge (PCK), before entering the teaching profession. PCK is essential professional knowledge that supports effective science teaching. This study aims to analyze the PCK readiness of prospective science teachers in Indonesia and the Philippines, with a focus on the CK and PK competencies required for teaching in the ASEAN context. The study employed a mixed-methods approach. Survey data were collected from 110 prospective science teachers undertaking field teaching practice in schools in Indonesia and the Philippines. In addition, in-depth interviews were conducted with 12 participants, consisting of six prospective teachers from each country. The data focused on participants’ understanding and preparation related to pedagogical skills and science subject matter. The results indicate that the overall PCK level of prospective science teachers falls within the “moderately ready” category. However, the proportion of participants classified as “ready” remains relatively low, ranging from 44.9% to 58.5%. These findings suggest a need for strengthening both PK and CK among prospective science teachers. Enhancing PK can be achieved through additional pedagogical education and targeted training programs to improve teaching skills. Meanwhile, improving CK can be supported by providing more specialized science content courses aligned with school curricula prior to teaching practice. PCK readiness plays a crucial role in supporting sustainable development. Beyond integrating pedagogy and content, PCK enables prospective teachers to effectively convey scientific concepts related to sustainability issues: climate change, natural resource conservation, environmentally friendly technologies.

Abstract

This paper aims to provide an overview of trend issues regarding writings related to web-based learning (WBL) in the scope of mathematics education. This paper comes from 51 writings taken from the Scopus data base for the last 10 years, namely 2013-2023. The method used is bibliometric analysis using the help of Vosviewer and Mendeley. Based on the results of this paper study, it was found that writing about WBL in mathematics education is still low. There were 26 participating countries but the largest country, the United States, only produced 13 writings. In addition, collaboration between countries is still very low. Not only the linkage between countries, the relationship between keywords and WBL in mathematics education is also still few and tenuous. The keywords that are rarely used in writing related to web- based learning are about problem-based learning, high school, academic achievement, course design, flipped classroom, personalized learning, Moodle creativity, which are things that are closely related to learning approaches or methods. This is expected to be an opportunity and challenge in building novelty in future research.

Abstract

Indonesia is projected to achieve its golden era by 2045, necessitating significant adaptation and transformation in cultivating high-quality human resources through education. However, the persistent issue of low mathematics achievement and the predominance of Teacher-Centered Learning (TCL) approaches at SMAN 14 Jakarta highlights the need for educational innovation. This study aims to design and develop an interactive electronic module grounded in constructivist pedagogy by incorporating Edgar Dale's Cone of Experience to enhance students' proficiency in the topic of counting principles. Key challenges include limited conceptual comprehension among students, inadequately aligned learning resources, and assessment strategies that fail to reflect instructional objectives. Employing a Research and Development (RnD) methodology, this study adopts the ADDIE model (Analysis, Design, Development, Implementation, and Evaluation) for systematic module development. The findings demonstrate that the module exhibits excellent validity, with mean scores for content, media, and language validation of 3.6, 3.9, and 3.8, respectively. The module further demonstrates substantial effectiveness, achieving a 70% improvement rate based on the n-gain test, which highlights a statistically significant enhancement in students' learning outcomes. Additionally, the practicality assessment yields high practicality, with an r-value exceeding the r-table and a practicality percentage of 92%. This study concludes that the developed module is highly effective in improving mathematical achievement, exhibits practical utility in instructional settings, and possesses robust validity for educational implementation.

Abstract

This comparative study investigates the Technological Knowledge (TK) readiness of mathematics pre-service teachers in Indonesia and the Philippines. Using a structured online survey, data were collected from 136 participants in Indonesia and 93 in the Philippines. TK readiness was categorized into three levels: Ready, Moderately Ready, and Not Ready, with demographic factors such as age, sex, and school type examined as potential influences. The results indicate that Indonesian pre-service teachers demonstrate higher TK readiness compared to their Filipino counterparts. No statistically significant associations were found between TK readiness and demographic variables in either country. The findings suggest a need for targeted interventions in teacher education programs to enhance TK competencies and ensure effective technology integration in mathematics classrooms. Implications for curriculum design and future research are discussed.
