Abstract

Indonesia ranks third in the Islamic Economy Indicator Score according to the State of the Global Islamic Economy Report 2024/25. In line with this achievement, the Indonesian government, through the Badan Penyelenggara Jaminan Produk Halal (BPJPH), ensures that food products are certified as halal. This policy requires all food business manufacturers to obtain halal certification for their products. The objective of this study is to analyse potential risks in halal food products among Small and Medium Enterprises (SMEs) to ensure the quality and integrity of halal food products. This study employed a quantitative research approach and was conducted through a case study of food SMEs in Batam City, Indonesia. The Failure Mode and Effects Analysis (FMEA) method was utilised to identify risk factors and analyse their causes, thereby preventing potential contamination that could compromise product quality and halal compliance. Primary data were collected through interviews and direct observations of production processes, while secondary data were obtained from production reports. The findings of this study indicate that 15 risks were identified in the production process. The highest risk factor was found at R04 with a Risk Priority Number (RPN) of 75, which obtained a level 1 rating and fell into the 'Very High' risk category. This risk pertains to the preparation area for the main raw ingredients for making doughnuts, which is conducted on the floor, thus posing a potential for contamination from dirt/dust. As for the recommended suggestion, it is to provide a separate storage area for the preparation zone, distinct from the dough-mixing area, so that dirt, dust, or other contaminants do not contaminate and enter the doughnut dough. This way, the halal integrity and quality of the doughnuts can be maintained

Abstract

Administrative employees at PT McDermott Indonesia perform prolonged computer-based tasks, which increases the risk of musculoskeletal disorders due to the use of a non-ergonomic workstation. The existing desk is too low, the monitor position is misaligned with eye level, and the working posture tends to be forward-bending, leading to significant physical discomfort. This study aims to redesign an ergonomic workstation by utilizing anthropometric data and assessing postural risk using the Nordic Body Map (NBM) and Rapid Upper Limb Assessment (RULA) methods. Data were collected through field observations, interviews, documentation, NBM questionnaires, postural angle measurements, and body dimension measurements. The NBM assessment shows that all administrative employees fall into the high-risk category, with scores ranging from 78 to 81. The RULA analysis yields a final score of 6, indicating that immediate corrective action is required. Based on the anthropometric data, an ergonomic desk design is proposed with dimensions tailored to the majority of users, including adjustable height and optimized monitor placement. The redesigned workstation is expected to reduce musculoskeletal risks, improve comfort, and enhance productivity among administrative employees at PT McDermott Indonesia.

Abstract

IKM pillow maker ABC is a business that produces various types of pillows, mattresses, and sofas using different fillings such as dacron, cotton, and foam. The pillow production station currently employs 6 workers: 1 worker for cotton grinding, feeding cotton into the machine, and packaging, 2 workers for filling cotton into the pillows, 2 workers for sewing, and 1 worker for final inspection. Based on observations, one of the main problems identified is that the demand level is significantly higher than the average daily production capacity. As a result, the current workforce is unable to complete production tasks on time, leading to delays in meeting customer orders. To address this issue, it is necessary to calculate the workload and determine the optimal number of workers required to achieve the production target. This study applies Workload Analysis and Workforce Analysis to determine the ideal workforce allocation. The results indicate that the optimal number of workers needed includes: 1 worker for cotton feeding and grinding, 10 workers for filling cotton into pillows, 11 workers for sewing, 3 workers for quality inspection, and 3 workers for packaging. By increasing the number of workers in these key areas, the company is expected to significantly improve its productivity and meet customer demand more effectively.

Abstract

Pak Sarno Tofu Factory is a small and medium enterprise (SME) in Batam City that stillapplies a semi-manual work system, particularly in the tofu whey sedimentation process. The manual scooping and handling of tofu whey using ladles and buckets potentially causemusculoskeletal complaints and reduce work efficiency. This study aims to identify the levelof Musculoskeletal Disorders (MSDs) using the Nordic Body Map (NBM), analyze workposture risk using the Rapid Entire Body Assessment (REBA) method, and design anergonomic work facility using the Ergonomic Function Deployment (EFD) method. Theresults indicate that workers experience musculoskeletal complaints in the neck, shoulders, lower back, waist, arms, wrists, and lower limbs, with the highest complaint level occurringin activities classified as high risk. REBA analysis shows that ergonomic risk levels rangefrom moderate to high, with the highest REBA score of 9 occurring during the activity ofcarrying buckets filled with tofu whey, which is classified as a high-risk activity. Based on theEFD method, an ergonomic sedimentation tool was designed in the form of a 250-literstainless steel drum equipped with a faucet system, a roller-supported table, and dimensionsadjusted to workers’ anthropometry. This design is expected to reduce physical workload, minimize MSDs complaints, and improve production efficiency.

Abstract

Welding activities at PT KTU Shipyard Tanjung Riau are carried out in a work environmentwith relatively high exposure to heat and noise, which may potentially cause work fatigueamong welders. This study aims to determine the working environment conditions in termsof temperature and noise levels, analyze the level of work fatigue. The research method wasconducted through measurements of temperature and noise levels in the work area. Theresults showed that the working area temperature obtained an average score of 33 with apercentage of 66%, and the noise level obtained an average score of 31.6 with a percentageof 63%, indicating that welders were exposed to heat and noise conditions. The level of workfatigue was in the moderate category with an average score of 78.8 and a percentage of53%. The results of multiple linear regression analysis showed that the working areatemperature did not have a significant effect on work fatigue with a significance value of0.904 (> 0.05), while the noise level had a significant and positive effect on work fatigue witha significance value of 0.0001 (< 0.05). Therefore, noise level is the dominant factor affectingwork fatigue among welders.

Abstract

Occupational Safety and Health (OSH) is not only important in industrial or office environments, but also in households that have the potential for accidents and health problems. One group that is vulnerable to these risks is housewives, who carry out daily activities at home. The lack of understanding of safety principles at home (safety house) has the potential to cause accidents, such as burns while cooking, slipping while washing, or exposure to household cleaning chemicals. This Community Service Activity (PKM) was carried out in RT 04 RW 13, Tanjung Riau Village, with the aim of increasing housewives' knowledge and awareness regarding the implementation of K3 at home. The methods used were socialization, interactive counseling, and group discussions on the concept of safety house and practices for preventing household accidents. The results of the activity showed an increase in participants' understanding of the importance of risk management at home, as demonstrated by increased enthusiasm, critical questions, and awareness to apply simple preventive measures in daily activities. Thus, this program made a real contribution to building a culture of safety at the household level, especially for housewives as the front line in maintaining the safety and health of their families.
