Abstract

Students represent a crucial resource for higher education institutions, carrying immense potential to contribute to a wide range of academic fields. As the demand for highly skilled graduates intensifies, particularly within health education, the Indonesian government has introduced policies focused on improving educational quality through a comprehensive quality assurance framework. A key component of this initiative is the introduction of the National Competency Examination (UKN), designed to ensure that graduates in health fields such as nursing, midwifery, and medicine meet national competency standards and are well-prepared to compete in the global job market. This qualitative research focuses on implementing Competency Tests for nurses and midwives, with study locations covering Regional IV in Makassar and Regional II in Jakarta, providing a descriptive analysis of the findings. The results reveal that the implementation of the UKN has not yet reached the desired level of success. Challenges such as insufficient commitment from implementers and financial constraints have hindered the effective delivery of the National Competency Examination in the health education sector.

Abstract

Umbilical cord infection significantly contributes to neonatal morbidity and mortality in border areas, with risky traditional care practices still commonly performed in Sanggau Regency. Objective: This study aimed to compare the effectiveness of interactive video education with health cadre approach in improving umbilical cord care behavior. The research design used an open-label randomized controlled trial with subjects of third-trimester pregnant women with gestational age more than thirty-seven weeks. Samples were taken using total sampling with forty-three initial respondents, then dropout occurred resulting in forty-two respondents divided into video group twenty-one people and cadre group twenty-two people. Before randomization, stratification was performed based on education and parity using simple random sampling with Excel RAND function. The video group received education through validated interactive videos, while the cadre group received lectures and demonstrations. Assessment was conducted on knowledge, attitudes, and practices using valid and reliable structured instruments from postpartum until umbilical cord separation. Data were analyzed using Mann-Whitney U, chi-square, and multiple logistic regression. Interactive video was significantly more effective in improving knowledge with odds ratio thirteen point six times greater, but no significant difference for attitudes and practices. Multivariate analysis showed education variables had significant effect with prediction accuracy of eighty-one percent. No single method was superior for all behavioral aspects, so combining both methods could be an optimal strategy to comprehensively improve umbilical cord care behavior Interactive video was more effective in improving knowledge, while the cadre-based approach had a stronger influence on shaping attitudes and practices, although the results were not statistically significant.

Abstract

The background of this study focuses on improving the quality of midwifery services at Dr. Abdul Aziz Regional General Hospital (RSUD Singkawang) through the adoption of the Professional Nursing Care Management (MAKP) case method. Research Methods: This study used a qualitative approach and a case study design to explore the application of this method in the delivery room. Research informants included the Head of the Delivery Room and midwives on duty at Dr. Abdul Aziz Regional General Hospital (RSUD Singkawang) as many as 16 midwives. Data collection used in this study included interviews, observation, and documentation. Thematic analysis was used for data analysis. This thematic analysis process resulted in a list of themes from the coding results. The results showed that the head of the room acts as a first-line manager, responsible for planning, organizing, directing, and supervising, which is delegated to BP4 or BP3 midwives when needed. The service ratio is set at 1 midwife to 1:3 patients, in accordance with the midwife's clinical authority. Shift scheduling is flexible, with a minimum of one BP3 midwife per shift. The process of admitting new patients and handovers is carried out with a 1:1 patient-to-midwife ratio. Discharge planning is carried out collaboratively with the patient and the healthcare team. There are two types of documentation, electronic and manual, completed by the midwives. The conclusion of this study indicates that the MAKP case-based method can be implemented in the delivery room by considering the midwife's clinical authority in accordance with the specified authority details.

Abstract

One of the most prominent issues among adolescents is reproductive health. This is closely related to biological changes and the maturation of reproductive organs, as well as preparing adolescents for the next stage of development, namely reproduction. One strategy with the potential to have a significant impact is the promotion of health among adolescent girls, which includes health education and health screening. This community service activity was implemented using a persuasive and educational approach, including reproductive health education through booklet media, peer group discussions, and health examinations involving 30 adolescent girls. The results showed an increase in knowledge among adolescent girls, as indicated by an improvement in the average knowledge score from 56.33 before the intervention to 88.67 after the intervention. This finding indicates that reproductive health education delivered through booklet media and peer group discussions is effective in improving adolescent girls’ understanding of adolescent reproductive health. Furthermore, the results of the health examination revealed that although most participants were not anemic and had normal nutritional status, some still experienced mild to moderate anemia. In addition, variations in body mass index were identified, including underweight, overweight, and obesity, as well as a risk of chronic energy deficiency (CED) among some participants. These findings indicate that nutritional problems and anemia among adolescent girls remain a concern and require continuous prevention and management efforts. Therefore, integrating health education and adolescent health services in schools is expected to be an effective, sustainable intervention model for improving the health status of adolescent girls.
