Abstract

This article is the ethnographic notes on leutik Hajat Solokan, aritual ceremony of farmers in Babakan Dago, Rancakalong district,Sumedang West Jawa. This ceremony reflects wisdom values, such asprotecting and maintaining ecological systems which supports their mainjobs, cultivating rice fields. This article provides empirical evidence aboutculture system which packing religious values in order to make it sturdyand stay longer. The writer also found acculturation among some religiousvalues, Hinduism, Chinese, and Islam.

Abstract

The core of Wayang stories (Mahabharata, Bharatayuda, Ramayana) is the reflection of human that is always continuously in crisis and emergency situations and conditions. Tragic. Wayang stories raise humanity problems so that the existences of human conception experience the perpetuity of dehumanization, existential instability and ambiguous. The killing of the essence of the human existence purpose on earth. It is an issue fundamentally of anti-human.Shadow play perspective does not rest on human understanding or Knight  (Pandawa, Kurawa, Rama, Giant), the heaven God (Bathara Guru), and/or Prabu Khresna, incarnation of Wisnhu God. Wayang stories evoke Togog and Semar angle. Liyan. Grassroots. The general public. Amorphous: No Man is not a knight instead of a brahmana is not god instead of giant.Arises a question that is closely related to the presence of Togog and Semar. Why do shadow play stories present the figure of the them, while the authentic story of the Mahabharata and Ramayana India version does not exist at all? Are Togog and Semar truly actualization of post-human aesthetic and post-human anthropology ideas?The substance of this writing ask us to discuss regarding the idea of Togog and Semar in shadow play into the realm of post-human discourse as a result of dehumanization signs in the frame of shadow play stories. The main focus of the discussion focused on the position of Togog and Semar as the figure as linuwih or great beyond human (knight) and god. Study restriction on the context of Purwa Java Gagrak Jogja and Solo wayang; similarly in East Java, Sunda and Bali, there are also those two figures.

Abstract

The dancers whose totally use their body and gesture explore their art-life experiences as well as to visualize their art form are always interrelated with the relation of knowledge and power. It is inclution whereas the dancers are belong to. This paper will focus on the issue of feminism in the field of the anthropological discourse as one of the Indonesian dances approach analysis. Even though it is not directly explaining how to operationalize feminism in analyzing the dances rather than serving an alternative perspective toward an older perspective in which tend to very masculine perspective.

Abstract

ABSTRACTThe realm of art just as a society is so full of conflict seized control of the course of history. Debate arises from the habitus of the dualism dichotomy. However, the current context with commodification influences the original dualistic shift of habitus to polysemic, polymorph, and polivocal. Commodification encourages the occurrence of cultural explosion so that live fragments of culture or sub-culture. This article utilizes the concept of community self-production, habitus, and commodification to answer the research question why is there an art resistance movement? The conspiracy of the interests of actors scattered in various agencies has undermined the aesthetic regime. keyword: the self-production of society, habitus, commodification ABSTRAKRanah seni seperti halnya suatu masyarakat begitu sarat konflik dalam rangka pegang kendali terhadap proses jalannya sejarah. Perdebatan muncul akibat adanya habitus dikotomi dualisme. Namun demikian, konteks terkini dengan hingar-bingar komodifikasi mempengaruhi pergeseran habitus yang semula dualistis menjadi polisemi, polimorf, dan polivokal. Komodifikasi justru membuka peluang terjadinya peledakan kebudayaan sehingga tinggal serpihan-serpihan budaya atau sub-budaya. Artikel ini memanfaatkan konsep produksi-diri masyarakat, habitus, dan komodifikasi untuk menjawab pertanyaan riset kenapa senantiasa muncul gerakan perlawanan seni? Persekongkolan kepentingan aktor-aktor yang tersebar dalam berbagai keagenan telah meruntuhkan rezim estetis.  Kata Kunci : masyarakat produksi, habitus dan komodifikasi

Abstract

ABSTRAKPenelitian ini bertujuan untuk melihat kedudukan ritual numbal dalam posisisnya dari keseluruhan upacara ruwatan bumi. Hal tersebut menyebabkan penulis berkeinginan untuk mengkaji mengenai ritual numbal dengan permasalahan sebagai berikut: 1) bagaimana memahami ritual numbal yang terdapat dalam upacara ruwatan bumi sebagai tinjauan gejala liminalitas?. Adapun metode yang digunakan dalam penelitian ini yaitu metode kualitatif, dengan mengambil lokasi di Kampung Banceuy Desa Sanca Kecamatan Ciater Kabupaten Subang. Teknik pengumpulan data yang digunakan adalah observasi non partisipan, wawancara tidak terstruktur, dan dokumentasi. Analisis yang digunakan adalah sebagai berikut: 1) reduksi data, 2) penyajian data, dan 3) kesimpulan. Penelitian ini menggunakan teori liminalitas dari Victor Turner, masyarakat Kampung Banceuy mengalami kegelisahan yaitu “taun kolot kudu dingorakeun deui” (Tahun tua harus dimudahkan kembali). Hasil penelitian menunjukkan bahwa, 1) Ritual numbal dapat mengatasi kekhawatiran masyarakat Kampung Banceuy, 2) ritual numbal memiliki kedudukan yang penting yaitu sebagai inti dari pelaksanaan upacara ruwatan bumi. Kata Kunci: Numbal, Ruwatan, liminalitas  ABSTRACTThis research aims to see the position of numbal ritual in its position on the entire Ruwatan Bumi ceremony. This causes the writer wishes to study the numbal ritual with the following problems: 1) how to understand the numbal ritual contained in the Ruwatan Bumi ceremony as a review of the symptoms of liminality. The method that been used in this research is a qualitative method, located in Banceuy Village, Sanca Village, Ciater District, Subang Regency. The techniques that been used to collect data in this research were non-participant observation, unstructured interviews, and documentation. The analysis that been used in this research are as follows: 1) data reduction, 2) data presentation, and 3) conclusion. This research used the theory of liminality from Victor Turner, the people of Kampung Banceuy are having a concern of “taun kolot kudu dingorakeun deui” the (Old years must be made young again). The results showed that, 1) numbal ritual can overcome the concern of the people of Kampung Banceuy, 2) numbal ritual has an important position as the core of the Ruwatan Bumi ceremony. Keywords: Ritual, Ruwatan Bumi, Liminality

Abstract

ABSTRAK Artikel ini berisi hasil penelitian mengenai perilaku konsumtif yang dilakukan masyarakat buruh tani saat menyelenggarakan hajat pernikahan di wilayah pedesaan Kecamatan Haurgeulis. Penelitian ini dilakukan menggunakan metode deskriptif kualitatif dengan pengumpulan data menggunakan wawancara, observasi, dan studi dokumen yang kemudian akan di analisis hingga mendapatkan kesimpulan. Teori konsumsi Baudrillard menjadi pisau bedah dalam penelitian ini. Masyarakat buruh tani yang konsumtif saat hajat pernikahan dilakukan karena perasaan gengsi dan ingin setara dengan masyarakat lain. Pendapatan buruh tani yang tidak seberapa tetap ingin agar acara pernikahan yang dilakukan berjalan meriah dan mewah untuk menutupi kondisi ekonomi rumah tangga buruh tani yang tergolong rendah. Maka dari itu masyarakat buruh tani akan memaksa dengan cara berhutang untuk keperluan hajat pernikahan agar terhindar dari gunjigan dari masyarakat lain.Kata Kunci: Buruh tani, Konsumtif, Hajat PernikahanABSTRACT This article contains the results of research on the consumptive behavior of the farm laborer community when holding a wedding ceremony in the rural area of Haurgeulis district. This research was conducted using a qualitative descriptive method with data collection using interviews, observation, and document study which will then be analyzed to get a conclusion. Baudrillard consumption theory becomes the scalpel in this study. Farm laborers who are consumptive during a wedding ceremony are held because of their sense of prestige and want to be equal with other communities. The income of farm laborers is insignificant still want the wedding to be carried out in a festive and luxurious way to cover the low economic conditions of farm laborers households. Therefore, the farm laborer community will force by way of debt for the purposes of marriage in order to avoid gossip from other communities.Keywords: Farm Laborer, Consumptive, Wedding Celebration

Abstract

ABSTRAK Permasalahan penelitian ini ialah bagaimana proses terbentuknya mitos baru yang berupa dua-belas motif batik Lebak dari sisi historis menjadi ikon bagi identitas daerah Lebak. Tujuan penelitian adalah menjelaskan proses pertanda yang bersifat ikonik yang berwujud motif batik sebagai identitas sebuah daerah yang merupakan mitos baru menurut perspektif semiotika pos-struktural. Manfaat teoretisnya adalah mengembangkan penelitian antropologi tentang batik dalam pendekatan semiotika. Manfaat praktisnya berupa pengetahuan mengenai batik sebagai sebuah identitas daerah Kabupaten Lebak. Metode penelitian adalah kualitatif dengan teknik pengumpulan data melalui studi pustaka, wawancara, dan dokumentasi. Populasi penelitian adalah empat belas orang masyarakat Kabupaten Lebak yang dibagi sesuai jenis pekerjaan. Variabel penelitian meliputi ikon, mitos, dan identitas. Hasil penelitian menemukan bahwa kedua-belas motif batik Lebak yang terinspirasi dari potensi kekayaan daerah dianggap sebagai cermin dari Kabupaten Lebak. Berkaitan dengan itu, Pemerintah daerah Kabupaten Lebak juga membuat kebijakan perihal dua-belas motif batik yang dijadikan ikon bagi identitas Kabupaten Lebak.Kata kunci: Batik Lebak, Identitas, Ikon, Mitos ABSTRACT The case of this study is to analyze how the process the new mites was formed which is in the form of twelve Batik Lebak design from the history, and it has been an icon of Lebak region identity. The purpose of this research was explain about the process that is iconic which is Batik design formed as an region identity that is the new mites according to semiotics perspective post-structural. The benefit of the theory is developing anthropology research about batik in the term of semiotics approach. Another benefit is a science that related to Batik as an identity of Lebak Regency. The method of this research is qualitative by collected of the data through references, interview, and documentation. The population of this research took fourteen people from Lebak Regency which is divided according to their Profession. The variables of the research are icon, mites, and Identity. The result of the research found out that twelve Batik of Lebak which was inspired of region wealth as an reflected of Lebak Regency. Because of that the Government of Lebak Regency made a policy about twelve Batik design as an Identity of Lebak Regency.Keywords: Batik Lebak, Identity, Icon, Mites

Abstract

ABSTRAK Upacara tradisi ngaras dan ngibakan merupakan suatu tradisi yang dilakukan sebelum pelaksanaan hari pernikahan. Upacara ini, dilaksanakan oleh masyarakat Sunda termasuk pada masyarakat Sunda di Kota Bandung sebagai suatu cara yang dipercaya agar prosesi pernikahan dapat berjalan lancar. Dalam perkembangan era globalisasi, tradisi tersebut mengalami perubahan diakibatkan masyarakat Kota Bandung yang mudah mendapatkan arus globalisasi sehingga masyarakat lebih menyukai produk jasa yang lebih efisien dan praktis sebagai ciri masyarakat modern. Hal ini berdampak pada munculnya penyedia jasa yang memodifikasi tradisi ngaras dan ngibakan dengan mengikuti permintaan pasar untuk mendapatkan nilai komoditas maksimal. Tulisan ini, merupakan deskripsi analisis dengan menggunakan metode penelitian kualitatif. Adapun teori yang digunakan, yaitu komodifikasi. Penelitian ini, bertujuan untuk menggali sejauh mana proses komodifikasi serta dampak yang ditimbulkan terhadap masyarakat Sunda Kota Bandung itu sendiri.Kata Kunci : Komodifikasi, Upacara Tradisi, Ngaras dan Ngibakan ABSTRACT The ngaras and ngibakan ceremony is a tradition that is carried out before entering the wedding day. This ceremony, carried out by the Sundanese people in the city of Bandung as a trusted way for the wedding procession to run smoothly. In the development of the era of globalization, the tradition has changed due tothe people of the city of Bandung who are easy to get the flow of modernization so that people prefer service products that are more efficient and practical. This has resulted in the emergence of service providers who modify the ngaras and trap traditions that follow market demand to get maximum commodity value. This research, is a description of the analysis using qualitative research methods. The theory used is the Commodification. This study aims to explore the process of commodification and its impact on the Sundanese people of Bandung.Keywords: Commodification, Tradition Ceremony, Ngaras and Ngibakan

Abstract

ABSTRAK Permasalahan penelitian adalah bagaimana pengetahuan seorang dukun terhadap suatu penyakit, mengklasifikasi tipe dan jenis penyakit berikut penanganannya dan bagaimana seorang dukun dapat memperoleh pengetahuannya. Tujuan penelitian adalah menjelaskan pengetahuan dukun terhadap berbagai klasifikasi jenis dan tipe penyakit sekaligus menjelaskan tentang cara seorang dukun memperoleh pengetahuannya melalui laku ngelmu. Metode penelitian adalah kualitatif dengan teknik pengumpulan data melalui studi pustaka, observasi, dan wawancara. Populasi penelitian adalah dukun, pegawai kantor desa, ketua dusun, dan warga. Hasil penelitian menemukan adanya sistem ngelmu yang ditempuh untuk memperoleh pengetahuan supranatural. Pengetahuan yang telah digapai dapat menentukan berbagai jenis penyakit seperti pelet, tenung, dan gangguan roh jahat. Sehingga pengobatan dilakukan dengan cara komunikasi transedental kepada makhluk gaib yang dilaksanakan pada suatu ruangan khusus. Simpulan dari penelitian ini adalah seorang dukun dapat mengetahui suatu penyakit non medis yang diderita oleh pasien dengan menggunakan pengetahuanKata Kunci: dukun, pengobatan tradisional, etnosains, ethnohealingABSTRACT The study discussed about a shaman’s knowledge on diseases suffered by a patient, classification of diseases, their treatment and also how a shaman obtained his knowledge through ngelmu. The research objective is to elaborate the knowledge of the shaman on various classifications and types of diseases and how he procured his knowledge through ngelmu practice. The research method is qualitative with data collection techniques through literature study, observation, interviews and documentation. The results of the study found that there is an exist of the ngelmu system which was adopted to acquire supernatural knowledge in an invisible form as an empirical experience. The knowledge that has been acquired can determine various types of diseases that are not caught by the five senses like pelet, tenung, and gangguan roh jahat. This study concludes that shaman can knows non-medical diseases suffered by patients by using the knowledge gained through the process called ngelmu.Keywords: Shaman,traditional medicine, etnosains, etnohealing

Abstract

ABSTRAK Permasalahan penelitian adalah mengapa wacana tentang pendalungan dimunculkan berulang-ulang dan bagaimana efek kuasa/pengetahuan dari sisi lain wacana pendalungan. Tujuan dari penelitian ini bermaksud untuk menjelaskan kuasa/pengetahuan dalam rangka pembentukan identitas orang Jember melalui pewacanaan pendalungan dan menjelaskan efek yang timbul dari wacana. Manfaat teoritisnya dalam mengembangkan kajian antropologi tentang konsep identitas berkaitan pendalungan beserta efeknya, khususnya dalam pembentukan identitas dengan pendekatan wacana kuasa/pengetahuan. Manfaat praktisnya sebagai masukan kepada masyarakat dan pemerintah dalam melakukan pengembangan tentang identitas warga Jember. Metode penelitian adalah kualitatif menggunakan instrumen studi pustaka dan wawancara. Populasi penelitian adalah seniman, akademisi dan sejarawan. Variabel penelitian berupa identitas, imajinasi dan multikultural. Hasil penelitian menemukan bahwa identitas bukan lahir dari sebuah situasi yang harmoni dan keseimbangan, melainkan pergulatan,kontestasi, benturan, beradu argumen dan wacana, pergesekan, dinamis dan produktif. Berkaitan dengan itu, simpulan penellitian ini bahwa identitas bukan suatu hal yang tetap melainkan bersifat lentur dan cair atau beragam.Kata Kunci: Pendalungan, imajinasi, identitas, wacana ABSTRACT The research problem formulated within this study is the question of why the pendalungan discourse was repreatedly surfaced and how is the influence of power/knowledge from the other side of this very discourse. This study seeks to unfold the essence of power/knowledge in forming the identity of the people of Jember through the pendalungan discourse as well as to provide an elaboration of the resulted effect from said discourse. The theoretical implication of this study would be the development of anthropological studies concerning the identity and influence of pendalungan, particularly on the formation of identity through the approach of power/knowledge discourse. As for the practical implication, the outcome of this study could serve as a form of valid recommendation both for the people and government in pursuing the development of the identity of Jember people. Drawing upon artists, academics, and historians as the population, this study made use of qualitative approach as the main method as well as literature review and interview as the instrument. A number of variables involved within this study were identity, imagination, and multiculturalism. The result of the study revealed that identity is not to be regarded as an entity born from a harmonious and balanced situation, rather, from an atmosphere that is full of struggles, contestation, clashes, conflicts of arguments and discourse, frictions between parties, dynamics, as well as productivity. From this point, this study embarked upon a conclusion that identity is not something that is fixed or rigid, but flexible and diverse.Keywords: Pendalungan, imagination, identity, discourse
