Abstract

The study aimed to explore EFL new university students’ challenges and strategies to cope with academic writing in the online learning process. This study focuses on how EFL students in higher education adapt and adjust to the academic situation by exploring their challenges and strategies to write for academic purposes, especially in the online learning process. The study involves freshmen in the English Language Education department of a private university in Jakarta, Indonesia, who are taking English writing skills courses. This study was conducted using a qualitative approach, to know the challenges and strategies used by university students. This study used purposeful sampling, by choosing the participant that matches the requirements. The data collection of this study used a questionnaire with an open-ended question, and semi-structured interview to investigate the students' experience of writing for academic purposes in online learning. This study revealed that EFL new university students have various difficulties and faced some challenges in learning writing for academic purposes in online learning. However, it is found that EFL new university students have their own strategies of writing for academic purposes in online learning. Keywords:  Academic Writing; EFL New University Student; Writing for Academic Purposes

Abstract

Abstract: Implementation Of The Kampus Mengajar Program At The Nurani Private Elementary School Jakarta. Kampus Mengajar is part of the program Merdeka Belajar Kampus Merdeka (MBKM) aims to help elementary schools affected by the COVID-19 pandemic. One of the schools targeted by this program is the Nurani Private Elementary School Jakarta.The purpose of this research is to find out and analyze how the implementation of the Kampus Mengajar Program is in the target schools by referring to the theory of implementation of David C. Korten and its relation to literacy, numeracy, technology adaptation, and administration activities in the target schools. The method used in this research is descriptive qualitative with data collection in the form of interviews, observations, and documentation. The results of the study explained that the implementation of the Kampus Mengajar Program at SDS Nurani went well. This is reviewed based on the aspects of the suitability of the program with the target, the program with the implementer, and the implementer with the right target. Literacy activities carried out by students are helping students in reading and writing. In the field of numeracy, students teach students various forms of mathematical calculations and their solutions. The technological adaptations carried out by students at SDS Nurani are to help teachers create interesting learning media and help use various online applications for learning. In terms of administration, students assist teachers in correcting student assignments and exams, supervising exams for grade 6 students, and helping fill out e-reports.Keywords: Implementation, Kampus Mengajar Program, SDS NuraniAbstrak: Implementasi Program Kampus Mengajar di Sekolah Dasar Swasta Nurani Jakarta. Kampus Mengajar merupakan bagian dari program Merdeka Belajar Kampus Merdeka (MBKM) yang bertujuan untuk membantu sekolah- sekolah dasar yang terdampak pandemi COVID-19. Salah satu sekolah yang menjadi sasaran program ini adalah Sekolah Dasar Swasta Nurani Jakarta. Tujuan penelitian ini adalah untuk mengetahui dan menganalisis bagaimana implementasi Program Kampus Mengajar di sekolah sasaran dengan mengacu pada teori implementasi David C. Korten dan keterkaitannya dengan kegiatan literasi, numerasi, adaptasi teknologi, dan administrasi di sekolah sasaran. Metode yang digunakan dalam penelitian ini adalah deskriptif kualitatif dengan pengumpulan data berupa wawancara, observasi, dan dokumentasi. Hasil penelitian menjelaskan bahwa implementasi Program Kampus Mengajar di SDS Nurani berjalan dengan baik. Hal ini ditinjau berdasarkan aspek kesesuaian program dengan sasaran, program dengan pelaksana, dan pelaksana dengan sasaran yang sudah tepat. Kegiatan literasi yang dilakukan mahasiswa adalah membantu siswa dalam membaca dan menulis. Dalam bidang numerasi, mahasiswa mengajari siswa beragam bentuk perhitungan matematika beserta penyelesainnya. Adaptasi teknologi yang dilakukan mahasiswa di SDS Nurani adalah membantu guru membuat media pembelajaran yang menarik dan membantu penggunaan berbagai aplikasi daring untuk pembelajaran. Dalam hal administrasi, mahasiswa membantu guru-guru untuk mengoreksi tugas dan ujian siswa, mengawasi ujian siswa kelas 6, serta membantu mengisi e-raport.Kata kunci: Implementasi, Program Kampus Mengajar, SDS Nurani

Abstract

Perubahan iklim telah menjadi isu global. Hal itu ditandai dengan adanya berbagai forum yang membahas penanggulangan dampak perubahan iklim dan berbagai aksi nyata untuk mencegah efek peubahan iklim yang makin besar. Seluruh penduduk dunia dari berbagai latar belakang dapat berpartisipasi, termasuk para guru. Untuk menumbuhkan kesadaran akan perubahan iklim dan mempromosikan aksi perubahan iklim, sebuah forum diskusi secara daring (webinar) telah dilaksanakan. Tema yang diangkat adalah Education for Sustainable Development (ESD). Webinar diselenggarakan oleh salah satu universitas swasta di Jakarta dengan mengundang tiga pembicara di bidang masing-masing, salah satunya adalah akademisi bidang pendidikan bahasa. Dalam penyampaian materi terkait bidang pengajaran bahasa dibahas mengenai upaya untuk mengintegrasikan materi mengenai perubahan iklim ke dalam pengajaran Bahasa Inggris.  Penyampaian materi dilakukan dengan metode ceramah, diskusi cuplikan video, dan tanya jawab. Peserta webinar yang terdiri dari mahasiswa, guru, dosen dan masyarakat umum tersebut memberikan respon positif melalui interaksi dengan pembicara di kolom chat dan sesi tanya jawab langsung. Dari kegiatan tersebut dapat diketahui bahwa para peserta memiliki kesadaran akan pentingnya aksi perubahan iklim. Sebagian peserta bahkan telah berupaya melakukan aksi perubahan iklim sesuai dengan peran kapasitas masing-masing dalam kehidupan sehari-hari. Guru dan calon guru memiliki pengetahuan baru mengenai penerapan isu dan aksi perubahan iklim di kelas Bahasa Inggris.

Abstract

This study investigated the sources of teaching anxiety experienced by EFL student teachers and their strategies to overcome their teaching anxiety. The study used a qualitative research design with close-ended questionnaires and semi-structured interviews to collect the data. The obtained data were categorized and transcribed to be analyzed qualitatively. The findings revealed seven main factors that caused teaching anxiety including; evaluation, students’ behaviors, self-confidence, fear of making mistakes, time management, lesson delivery, and teaching preparation. Student teachers implemented several strategies to overcome EFL student teachers’ anxiety including; humor and positive thinking, good planning and preparation, building a good relationship, practicing mindfulness, creating fun English learning activities, and giving a reward. The results provide important implications for further research development in educational practices, specifically in managing teaching anxiety among prospective teachers.
