Abstract

To make a good classroom environment as students’ stimulation, that will make the students active in the teaching and learning process. Understanding the students’ learning styles helps the teacher to teach about the student’s specific favorites. Understand the kind of learning styles can help the teacher developing and also delivering the educational programs. It also will motivate and stimulate students’ in gaining the knowledge. This research pursues to answer two research questions; (1) To know the kind of learning styles used by the students of English Department of Tidar University. (2) To know about the most common learning style used by the students of English Department of Tidar University. Qualitative research is used in this research. This research aims to distinguish the most common used of learning style and used the questionnaire reproduced by O’Brien (1985). The population of this research was the English Department students of Tidar University. However, the researcher used 70 samples from all of the students of English Department of Tidar University.

Abstract

The aim of this study was to analyze the specific vocabulary in the Indonglish phenomenon that the Tidar University students use in the educational environment at Tidar University, the meaning that exists in Indonglish at Tidar University, and the impact of Indonglish usage in the use of Indonesian is good and right in the environment education in universities at Tidar University in a signification effort Indonesian. Indonglish is a term often used for English language which is nuanced by Indonesian culture. Indonglish study focuses on environmental education, particularly in higher education that is not only limited to the academic setting but also non-academic one. The researchers used qualitative research. The data of this research were a wide range of speeches acquired in an educational environment, especially in Java, in which there are forms of language linguistically mixed Indonesian and English. Locational data source of this research were the perpetrators of students at Tidar University. The result is the 5th semester students produced 35 Indonglish vocabulary and the 7th semester students produced 31 Indonglish vocabulary. The basic assumption for determining the locational data sources was the consideration that the students, faculties, and staff had a varied background of social, economic and culture so that it was expected to describe the condition of society. The data analysis was conducted by applying the distributional method that was commonly done in linguistics. The method of analysis was done after the data were collected and properly classified. Furthermore, the interpretation of the data was done. Then, the interpreted data were presented informally.

Abstract

This study aimed to find out the kinds of figurative language in the selected poetry of Maya Angelou, entitled Still I Rise. The focus of this study is figurative language which involves: Metaphor, Personification, Hyperbole, Simile, Metonymy, Synecdoche, Irony, Antithesis, Symbolism, and Paradox. Qualitative approach with design of content analysis was used in this study. The researcher acted as the main instrument since he was the one who analyzed the figurative language. Moreover checklist was also used to support his data collection. The data was analyzed through three stages; 1). Data reduction, 2). Data representation, 3). Conclusion. The result of his study showed there were 14 sentences that containing figurative language in Still I Rise Poetry of Maya Angelou. They were; Metaphor (7 sentences), Personification (1 sentence), and Simile (6 sentences). The researcher conclude, if the figurative language used by Angelou to compare, or even symbolize the sentences to bring the meaning come up with beautiful language. Mostly of her poetries told about her experience in the past that rooted to history of the discrimination of American-African.
