ABSTRACT Popular known as PPL stands for Praktik Pengalaman Lapangan, the pre-service teacher education program in Indonesia is at critical condition, as it is seen from the pre-service teacherâs mastery content knowledge, inquiry, collaboration/ partnership, and accountability. By using a comparative study, I give direct comparison PPL to PDS. PDS or Professional Development School is a program facilitates the pre-service teacher candidates to have teaching experience and develop their professionalism. I try to uncover the principles of PPL and PDS and exemplify how these principles are implemented in practices. In this paper, I propose a new PPL model by evaluating the PPL practice, adopting PDS principles and restructuring toward PPL model in order to improve teaching quality in Indonesia.

The present study focuses on the implementation of traditional diagnostic test for speaking skill in the form of an interview with no specific set of corrective procedure. However, it triggers more increasing worries on the significance of standardized test such as not being able to unlock students’ speaking potential. This study highlights on Dynamic Assessment (DA) based on the Vygotsky’s Sociocultural Theory (1978). Fundamentally, DA inserts mediation process such as prompts, hints, and leading questions in its interview process. This study compares the efficacy of Dynamic Assessment (DA) and the standardized diagnostic test/Non-Dynamic Assessment (NDA) in diagnosing and unlocking their potential. Using a quasi-experimental research with non-equivalent group design (NEGD), this study focused on four micro speaking skills including pronunciation, vocabulary, grammar, and fluency. The results suggested that the use of DA was able to identify their current speaking performance and uncover their speaking potential even if some were claimed to have the similar speaking level. While, the standardized test (NDA) emphasized only on the current performance and was not able to elicit their potential.

The paper aims to describe the implicature used by President Joko Widodo in his speech on international forums. This study employs a pragmatic analysis approach to identify the implicative meanings of his speech. The data were the videos and texts of the transcription of President Joko Widodo's speech at the APEC CEO Summit Summit in Beijing on November 10, 2014 and the Asian-African Conference in Jakarta on April 22 2015. The data were analyzed by using note-taking techniques comprising two stages, (1) classifying linguistic data that contains implicatures and (2) interpreting the meaning behind the implicature used, based on the context of the situation and the background of the relevant discourse. Based on the results, President Joko Widodo‘s speech was dominated by several implicatures including influencing, insinuating, convincing, threatening, complaining, clarifying, and governing.

This study reports a case study research in Writing Blended Learning Environment for higher education that enriched digital environment study especially in the pandemic of Covid-19. It examines the students’ writing apprehension and their performance as perceived by a selected group of EFL students who enroll in Professional Writing class. Questionnaires were administered to three writing lecturers and fifty students of the English Department, Universitas Tidar. The obtained data were analyzed quantitatively using descriptive statistics, while those obtained from the interview were analyzed qualitatively using Miles, Huberman, and Saldana’s model (2014). The findings show that there are many challenges faced by both the teachers and the students when they implemented this writing blended learning environment. Though, some challenges give not only the pitfalls but also positive contribution to the students’ learning progress in their writing. The study found that students need specific and intensive instruction, practice, and feedback for improving their writing skills. It is also found that learning writing through writing blended learning environment is somehow interesting and also challenging in some covered topics and activities, while lecturers still have their instructional and pedagogical roles in a blended learning environment.

In the last two decades, women’s issues have been attracting public attention, particularly for those who see and study women from male world of construction. In the literature framework, the existing problems are not limited to the women’s involvement in the creation, criticism, and as readers only. However, the growth of the creation of female poets has opposed to men's superiority towards women. The role of gender and institution of marriage, which have been the symbol of hegemonic masculinity, has become a deconstruction and parody. The aim of this study is to dismantle the gender dictions in the Dorothea’s poem, which reflect the hegemonic masculinity. The object of this research is the poetry collections entitiled ‘Nikah Ilalang’ by Dorothea Rosa Herliany. Technique of data collection used was notetaking. In analyzing the data, Dorothea's poetries are studied by using heuristic and hermeneutic techniques. In using hermeneutic technique, this study used semiotic approach and potential/actual hypogram in order to find a proper model as matrix actualization.
