Abstract

The learning of physics is often considered one of the most challenging subjects for students, as it requires a deep understanding of concepts and strong analytical skills. Difficulties in comprehending the material can affect students' motivation and learning strategies, which may ultimately impact their level of learning independence. This study employs a quantitative method with a simple linear regression approach. The sample consists of 30 students from SMPN 01 Singkawang, selected using a random sampling technique. Data were collected through questionnaires measuring students' learning difficulties and learning independence. The analysis results indicate that Learning Difficulties do not have a significant effect on Learning Independence, with a p-value of 0.1531, which is greater than the significance level of 0.05. The coefficient of determination (R²) value of 0.0715 suggests that only 7.15% of the variation in Learning Independence can be explained by Learning Difficulties, while the remaining portion is influenced by other factors.

Abstract

This study aims to: 1) describe the metacognitive awareness profile of students in physics learning, 2) describe the science process skills profile of students in physics learning, and 3) analyze the relationship between metacognitive awareness and students' science process skills in physics learning. This research used a quantitative approach with descriptive data analysis techniques and a causal research design. The population of the study consisted of 120 students from SMP Negeri 20 Singkawang, with a sample selected using saturated sampling techniques. Data collection was performed using two instruments: the Metacognitive Awareness Inventory (MAI), which includes 45 statements, and a science process skills test consisting of 14 multiple-choice questions designed to evaluate core cognitive competencies. The findings of the study indicated that: 1) the metacognitive awareness of students in grades VIIIA, VIIIB, VIIIC, and VIIID was categorized as high, 2) the science process skills of students in grades VIIIA, VIIIB, VIIIC, and VIIID were also categorized as high based on overall performance metrics, and 3) there was no significant relationship between metacognitive awareness and students' science process skills. Based on these results, the hypothesis test concluded that there is no significant relationship between metacognitive awareness and science process skills, suggesting that the correlation between the two variables is low. This study contributes to understanding the profiles of metacognitive awareness and science process skills in physics learning, as well as their lack of correlation, which can serve as a basis for further research and the development of innovative strategies to improve both aspects in future physics education.

Abstract

This study aims to: (1) analyze the profile of science literacy ability of junior high school students in general; (2) analyzing the learning style of junior high school students; and (3) analyze the science literacy abilities of junior high school students based on their learning style tendencies. This type of research is survey research with a descriptive approach. The data analysis technique used is quantitative descriptive analysis, where the data results will be presented in the form of pie charts and tables to facilitate the interpretation of the information obtained. Respondents in this study were selected through cluster sampling techniques, with a population consisting of all students of SMP Negeri 1 Singkawang. The data collection technique uses two main instruments, namely the science literacy ability test and a questionnaire to measure the tendency of students' learning styles in physics learning. The learning styles identified refer to the VARK (Visual, Auditory, Reading/Writing, and Kinesthetic) model, as well as the grouping between unimodal and multimodal learning styles. The results showed that the multimodal learning style was more dominant (61%) compared to the unimodal learning style (39%). Among the multimodal categories, the quadmodal learning style (using all four aspects of VARK) occupies the largest portion. In addition, it was found that 1 in 3 students had a complete VARK learning style tendency, making it the most common type. Based on further analysis, students with multimodal learning styles—especially quadmodal—have higher average science literacy skills compared to students who have only one type of learning style modality. These findings show that the diversity of learning approaches can have a positive impact on the mastery of science literacy.

Abstract

This study aims to (1) determine the level of learning motivation among students at MTs Muhammadiyah 1 Singkawang, (2) identify the physics learning achievement of students at MTs Muhammadiyah 1 Singkawang, and (3) examine the influence of learning motivation on students’ physics learning achievement. The research employed a survey method with simple linear regression analysis, which is used to model the relationship between one dependent variable and one independent variable. The population consisted of all students at MTs Muhammadiyah 1 Singkawang, and the sampling technique applied was total sampling. Data were collected through a student learning motivation questionnaire and documentation of students’ physics grades.Descriptive analysis results indicated that the learning motivation variable had an average score of 85, which, based on the categorization criteria, falls into the very high category. In terms of physics learning achievement, data analysis revealed that the highest frequency was within the score interval of 30 < X ≤ 70. Specifically, 39 students (34%) were categorized as medium achievers, while 35 students (30%) were categorized as low achievers. These findings indicate that overall, students’ physics learning achievement can still be considered high, although a significant proportion remains in the medium and low categories. The results of simple linear regression analysis demonstrated a positive influence of learning motivation on physics learning achievement. This suggests that higher levels of learning motivation are associated with better physics performance among students. The findings highlight the importance of fostering and maintaining high learning motivation levels to enhance academic achievement. Therefore, educators are encouraged to design and implement learning strategies that not only improve students’ understanding of physics concepts but also stimulate and sustain their motivation to learn.

Abstract

The purpose of this study is to determine the influence between student learning motivation and gender on students' science process skills in physics learning. This study is included in the type of survey with a comparative design and uses a quantitative approach to analyze the relationship between variables. The population in this study is all grade IX students of SMP Negeri 4 Singkawang, data was taken using saturated sampling techniques. The instrument used in this study was a learning motivation questionnaire consisting of 22 statements and science process skills test questions consisting of 10 expanded multiple-choice questions. The data analysis technique used in this study is the two-way ANOVA Test. The results of the hypothesis test show that. (1) There is no difference in students' science process skills based on learning motivation in physics learning. (2) There is no difference in students' science process skills based on gender in physics learning. (3) There is an influence of student learning motivation and gender on students' science process skills in physics learning. With a sig value > 0.05 for hypotheses (1) and (2), while a sig value < 0.05 for hypothesis (3). From the explanation above, it can be concluded that individually, learning motivation and gender do not affect students' science process skills. But the combination of these two variables affects students' science process skills in physics learning.
