Abstract

One of the exciting topics in the socio-scientific issue is cloning. This issue is seen as a debatable issue in religion and science. In the practice of science learning in class, Biology teachers are required to be able to present this topic proportionally. This research aims to study how the arguments of Biology teachers in Islamic organization-based senior high schools in Indonesia face the cloning issue of sacrificed animals. This research was conducted in three Islamic organization-based senior high schools. This research uses the qualitative method by observation process on the learning of cloning topic in the class, questionnaire, and an in-depth interview with Biology teachers of XII grade from the three different schools in Banten Province, Indonesia. Results of the research show that related to the cloning issue of sacrifice (Qurban) animals is not only related to the religious aspect; there is the existence of specific argumentation patterns in the mind of the teachers. The designs are presented in the frameworks of economic (Organization A), social humanity (Organization B), and knowledge (Organization C). These three frameworks of organization give the primary colors for each teacher's argumentation. Thus, further studies must explore the effects of Islamic organizations on the arguments and the practice of cloning topic teaching at Islamic organization-based senior high schools.

Abstract

Due to its significance in fostering 21st-century skills, Science, Technology, Engineering, and Mathematics (STEM) education has rapidly evolved across the country. However, designing effective and meaningful STEM-based lessons is still challenging, especially at the elementary school level. Thus, future elementary teachers should be trained to develop integrated STEM-based lesson plans. This research aims to explore the quality of STEM-based lessons designed by pre-service elementary teachers. This study analyzed six STEM-based lesson plans created by 32 preservice elementary teachers as a final group project in the STEM Learning in Elementary School course. Employing a descriptive analysis method, the study evaluated the lesson plans using STEM Integration Curriculum Assessment (STEM-ICA) indicators to shed light on the lesson design quality. Findings reveal varying scores across STEM-ICA indicators, emphasizing ideal science integration but indicating room for improvement in mathematics integration within the lesson. Assessment alignment and the need for stronger connections in engineering design activities are highlighted. This contributes to discussions on enhancing preparation programs for high-quality STEM educators in elementary schools.

Abstract

Critical thinking skills are very necessary in the 21st century, several studies still show that students’ critical thinking skill in Indonesia are still low. This study aims to determine the effect of applying the Jigsaw type Cooperative Learning model assisted by Eco-pop media on the critical thinking skills of fifth-grade elementary school students. The research method used was a pre-experiment with a one group pretest-posttest design. The research subjects consisted of 20 fifth-grade elementary school students, namely 8 male students and 12 female students at an elementary school in Purwakarta. Data collection was carried out through test instruments in the form of pretest and posttest questions, each consisting of 10 essay questions that measured students’ critical thinking skills. Data analysis used parametric inferential statistics with the help of the SPSS application. The normality test results showed that the data were normally distributed, with a pretest significance value of 0.071 > 0.05 and a posttest significance value of 0.155 >0.05. The results of the Paired Sample T-Test showed a significance value of0.000 < 0.05, confirming a significant difference between critical thinking skills before and after treatment. Thus, it can be concluded that the Jigsaw Cooperative Learning model assisted by Eco-pop media has a significant effect in effectively improving the critical thinking skills of fifth-grade elementary school students and is recommended for use in the classroom learning process.

Abstract

Primary school students' understanding of science concepts remains low due to teacher-centered learning and minimal use of supporting media. This condition indicates the need for a learning model that can increase active participation and facilitate meaningful inquiry activities. This study aims to determine the effect of the PhET Simulation-assisted Problem Based Learning model on the ability to understand science concepts in energy change material. This study used a quantitative method with a One Group Pretest Posttest Design involving 22 fourth-grade students at an elementary school in Purwakarta. The research instrument was a multiple-choice test based on seven concept comprehension indicators. The data were analyzed using descriptive statistics, Shapiro Wilk normality test, Wilcoxon test, and N Gain calculation. The results showed an increase in conceptual understanding after the learning model was implemented, as indicated by an increase in the average pretest score to the average posttest score and an N Gain score of 0.73 in the high category. The Wilcoxon test confirmed a significant difference between the initial ability and the ability after the treatment. These findings confirm that PhET Simulation-assisted Problem Based Learning is effective in supporting science concept comprehension and has the potential to be a more interactive and meaningful learning alternative for elementary school students.

Abstract

Science literacy among Indonesian elementary school students remains below international benchmarks, while locally grounded instructional approaches that integrate sustainability education are still limited. This study investigated the effect of the Pancaniti learning model, a five-stage pedagogical framework based on Sundanese values, combined with flashcard media and a simple biogas project, on fifth-grade students’ science literacy. A one-group pre-test–post-test quasi-experimental design was conducted with 32 Grade 5 students at SDN Purwamekar selected through purposive sampling. Science literacy was measured using three PISA-aligned indicators: identifying scientific problems, explaining scientific phenomena, and using scientific evidence. Data analysis employed the Wilcoxon Signed-Rank Test due to non-normal post-test data. Results showed a significant improvement in science literacy, with mean scores increasing from 6.44 to 8.44 (Z = ?4.112, p < .001) and a large effect size (r = 0.727). The overall N-Gain was 0.58 (moderate), with the highest gain in using scientific evidence (0.72; high). These findings indicate that the Pancaniti model effectively enhances elementary students’ science literacy.

Abstract

Livestock are routinely exposed to environmental, nutritional, managerial, and infectious stressors that challenge the neuroendocrine and immune systems. Dysregulation of this integrated axis is increasingly recognised as a principal driver of reduced health resilience and productive performance. This systematic literature review characterised the molecular mechanisms underlying neuroendocrine–immune homeostasis in livestock, identified major disruption categories triggered by stressor exposure, and synthesised evidence-based mitigation strategies. Forty-one peer-reviewed articles from 2020–2026 were retrieved from Scopus, Web of Science, and Google Scholar and analysed through data reduction, display, and conclusion drawing. Findings indicate that chronic HPA axis over-activation triggers six inter-related disturbances: periparturient immunosuppression, Th1/Th2 imbalance, reproductive hormone dysregulation, pro-inflammatory cytokine dysregulation, heat-stress-induced endocrine disruption, and negative energy balance collectively heightening susceptibility to mastitis and metritis while suppressing reproductive efficiency and growth. Effective mitigation requires adaptive housing, precision nutrition, and evidence-based welfare practices to sustain livestock productivity in tropical systems.

Abstract

Through an analytical synthesis comparing similarities and differences across various studies, this literature review identifies research trends dominated by qualitative approaches among Grade XI students with a focus on acids and bases, as well as multilevel diagnostic instruments for student misconceptions in chemistry. The review highlights research gaps in the integration of multilevel chemical representations, acknowledges the limitations of prior studies that remain largely descriptive without comprehensive conceptual mapping, and proposes future research directions in the form of evidence-based pedagogical interventions to address student misconceptions about acids and bases. This situation is further compounded by the dominance of rote-learning methods that neglect deeper understanding at the submicroscopic level. Therefore, the instructional approach recommended is the integration of guided inquiry, which is capable of bridging students' understanding from the macroscopic to the submicroscopic perspective through technology-based simulations and laboratory experiments.
