Abstract

The purpose of this research is to describe the relevance of reading materials in the “Bahasa Inggris” textbook for Vocational High School students in the XI grade, as well as the good textbook criteria proposed by Pusat Perbukuan, the Ministry of National Education, in terms of content, presentation, language use, and readability. The research used a descriptive qualitative study with a content analysis design. The instruments used to collect the data were a document study and observation in the form of checklists. The results demonstrated that the textbook "Bahasa Inggris" fulfilled the Pusat Perbukuan's recommendations for good learning materials. Because the average fulfillment score is 82.1 percent, the textbook is rated a "good" textbook. The textbook appeared adequate for use in the teaching-learning process, but it could be improved. Keywords:  Reading Materials, Textbook, Pusat Perbukuan Criteria

Abstract

This study aims to help overcome the problems that exist in class VII B students of SMPN 1 Jabiren Raya, Pulang Pisau Regency, Jabiren Raya District. A total of 30 students were the subjects in this study. After conducting a pre-observation, a problem was found, namely related to the vocabulary that students still have a little. Therefore, to overcome this problem, the researcher used Crossword Puzzle printed on HVS paper as a method to help improve students' vocabulary. This research uses Classroom Action Research (CAR) method. This research design uses collaborative classroom action research. This study collaborated with the English teacher of SMPN 1 Jabiren Raya as a collaborator and observer. The model in this study uses the Kurt Lewin Model where the stages in each cycle begin with the stages of Planning, Action, Observation, and Reflection. This study consisted of two cycles in which in each cycle there was 1 meeting with a duration of 3 subject hours. To collect data, researchers used research instruments: Vocabulary Test, Interview, and Questioner. After the implementation of this research, there was an increase in students’ vocabulary. It can be seen from the increase in each cycle, namely in cycle 1 students got 53.3% classical completeness and increased in cycle 2 to 90% after conducting vocabulary tests through multiple choice. Therefore, based on the research that has been conducted, the Crossword Puzzle method can improve students' vocabulary.

Abstract

This service activity aimed to provide training to Madrasah Tsanawiyah teachers in compiling scientific papers in the form of Classroom Action Research. Apart from that, it trains teachers to carry out research activities in the classroom to develop their profession. The participants in this activity were 25 teachers at MTs Negeri 2 Palangka Raya. This activity was held in the Meeting Room of MTs Negeri 2 Palangka Raya on December 15 2023. Material was provided by Sabarun, M.Pd. which relates to guidelines for preparing scientific papers which consist of procedures in classroom action research and learning models that can be used in the teaching and learning process. This activity produces a draft proposal for Classroom Action Research using appropriate cycles. During the activity, participants were enthusiastic and produced PTK proposals with various titles. It could be showed that this service activity was running well and obtaining maximum results.

Abstract

The study's aims are to examine the improvement of process text writing ability with Make-a-Match technique and to discover the benefits and drawbacks of using Make-a-Match technique in increasing procedure text writing ability at SMPN Satu Atap 1 Jabiren Raya's Ninth Grade. Twenty students participated in the study. The study's instruments included interview questions, an observation list, a pre-test, and two post-tests. This was an action research study. The study was completed in two rounds. There were four steps in each cycle: planning, implementation, observation, and reflection. The findings demonstrated that students' learning outcomes increased after using the Make-a-Match type cooperative learning approach. The average score in the first cycle test was 54.55, with a post-test score of 70.95, and an average score of 84.45 in the second cycle. In cycle I, 35% of students met the target, while in cycle II, 90% of post-test I and II findings showed an improvement in student learning outcomes.
