Abstract

Asian Economics Community ( MEA )  has  big  influence for everyone in the world. This agreement will attract more and more people from other countries to come, stay dan work in Indonesia. Therefore, people need to communicate with more than one language in multilingual culture. This study is sociolinguistic which aimed to find out the form of code switching and code mixing are used by people, to know the purpose and influence of code switching and code mixing that found in tourism industry of Karawang toward daily conversation. The data are taken from Delonix Hotel in Karawang by using observation and interview of Japanese, English, Indonesia, and Sundanese people which analyzed about code switching and code mixing as holmes’s theory (2013). Data interpretation provides that the form of code switching and code mixing are occurred in their conversation in Delonix Hotel in Karawang. The result of interpretation shows that code switching and code mixing is determined by social, cultural, and individual factors.

Abstract

This research was aimed at finding whether or not the use of digital storytelling and dictionary can improve students’ vocabulary mastery. To get the answer of the defined research questions, the researcher used quantitative approach and quasi experimental design. The research had been done in SMPN 1 Cilamaya Wetan, and took two classes as sample, namely, 8G and 8H with 40 respondents in each class. There were three steps in this research, namely pre-test, treatment, and post-test. Pre-test was held in both classes to know students’ vocabulary mastery before the treatment. After doing pretest, treatment was held in experimental class by using digital storytelling and dictionary, that used the technology such as infocus, projector, speaker, and LCD in which the materials were taken from youtube, while control class only  used song lyrics. In the next step, posttest was held in both classes to know the improvement after the treatment in experimental class. The data of the study were analyzed by using SPSS version 22 for windows. This research findings showed that experimental group had higher vocabulary score than control group. It can be seen from the posttest mean of experimental group was 74.75 , while the mean of control group was 60,62. Meanwhile, the average of normality gained in experimental group was 0.37  and the average of normality gained in control group was 0.075. Thus, the improvement of students’ vocabulary mastery by using digital storytelling and dictionary in experiemental group is greater than using song in control group. It can be concluded that digital storytelling and dictionary improves vocabulary mastery of eight grader of SMPN 1 Cilamaya Wetan.Keywords: vocabulary mastery, digital storytelling, dictionary

Abstract

The objective of this research is to find out that think pair share technique in improving students’ reading comprehension. The research method used in this research was quasy experimental method. This research conducted at eighth grade students of SMPN in Karawang. The procedures of research in experiment are giving pre-test, treatment, and giving posttest. The data gathered in this research was through pre-test and post-test. The result of this research showed that there was differences between teaching using think pair share technique and conventional method. In analyzing data, the researcher used independent T-test in SPSS version 22 at the level of significance 95% (α 0,05), and compared with T-table. The researcher got7.641. This obtained T-value exceed the critical values for two tiled test under p= 0,05 (1, 668).The conclusion in this research, there is improving of think pair share technique for readingcomprehension

Abstract

AntPConc is the software that facilitates an unlimited data recognizing the frequency and collocation in order to get categorization of its context. Solidarity issue is concerned by BBC News and the Jakarta Post in delivering Rohingya issues. It is qualitatively aimed to identify the representation of Rohingya’s issue through grammatical meaning in both of media. As limitation, I employed the analysis as van Leeuwen framework (2008) and semantically (Saeed: 2016). To comprehend the result, the data is obtained in a week period that inputted to AntPconc. The data can identify representational meaning of Rohingya’s issue specializing grammatical meaning through frequency and collocation. The findings reveal that both of media have high solidarity toward Rohingya issues. Even though, BBC News is more explicit about raising the actor. Moreover, corpus linguistic also has the contribution to CDA-semantic study especially recontextualization meaning.

Abstract

Concordance is one of the software based corpus linguistics which aims to analyse the unlimited language data. This software helps deliver lecturing comprehensively and is understood easily by students. Regarding to this application, it will make easier the student to learn, identify, and analyze the data in order to determine English word class within various texts. This study is concerned about how the process of teaching English word class using concordance software is conducted, and the students’ responses toward teaching English word class using concordance software. The corpus is taken from the British National Corpus (BNC). It is used to analyze word class categories (further discussed in Thomas, 1993). Concordance is available to be used both in English language teaching or linguistics field.

Abstract

The current study is intended to explore the language evaluation of vaccination of covid-19 news of post-pandemic era in the corpus of the Jakarta post as Indonesian newspapers through the study of Systemic Functional Linguistics, hereafter SFL, by considering interpersonal meaning. To view and evaluate a comprehensive purpose, the corpus and appraisal analysis are deployed. The study revealed that the journalist, as media representation, tended to reflect a positive value corroborating with desirable attitude and preferred to show a good judgment through the news to society but the functional meaning should be depended with the whole context. The result also emphasized that media which realized by journalist engaged the society in persuading vaccination of Covid-19 to normalize all of human’s life aspect either healthy, economic, or other factor after the disruption era although as functionally it convey with a negative attitude. The study has implication for journalist that attitude rules are required to reach an effective interpersonal discourse of target community perspective in reporting and persuading a vaccination of covid-19 for the new normal era.

Abstract

ABSTRACTConcordance is the software that facilitates an unlimited data recognizing the frequency and collocation. It can be used for learning and teaching. This study is qualitative and aimed to know the contribution of corpus tool in teaching CDA and the students’ responses through the use of corpus tool, named concordance software, in one of the University. The method in this research is qualitative descriptive with the content analysis. Thus, I employed the frequency and collocation in order to get its sociocognitive contained into three levels of analysis: microstructure, superstructure, and macrostructure couched within critical discourse analysis framework of Van Dijk (2008) through 2 articles taken from different newspaper that has been collected into concordance software. The data can be represented to be mediator in learning and teaching CDA in the class to find out the ideology through frequency and collocation. The findings reveal that concordance has the contribution to the learning and teaching especially in linguistic course. It is questioningly proven by the students’ responses that the students seemingly motivate and enthuse to learn CDA through corpus linguistics. Concordance is effective and can help the teacher in their teaching.

Abstract

This research aims to focus on attitudes as a sub of appraisal system. The purpose of the study is to find out what types of Attitude are most commonly found in students’ writing Recount text through Web-blog and the students’ responses in writing recount text through web blog. This research uses a qualitative method, with the descriptive case study as the research design. This research was conducted in the eighth grade of senior high school in Karawang. The researcher uses observation, Interview and documentation to collect data. 6 learners participated in writing Recount text and interview. The learners' writing are conducted from web blog. The study results found that the student's recount writings, it was found to affect 17, judgment 6 and appreciation 6. Then, based on the results of interview data that has been conducted on students, it can be concluded that the use of web blogs as a medium for writing recount text can be responded well and positively by students.

Abstract

Writing ability is very important for every student in learning English. Many students have difficulty in the writing process. Based on the 2013 curriculum, which emphasizes collaborative and student-oriented learning where students can develop their thinking and knowledge skills by themselves. Based on the 2013 curriculum, there are four recommended learning models to be applied in learning English, one of which is Problem Based Learning. Problem based learning is the right model to solve students' problems in writing, especially in writing procedure text. This research is a qualitative research with a descriptive case study research design. This study aims to investigate the implementation of Problem Based Learning in teaching writing procedure text and to investigate students' responses to teaching writing procedure text through Problem Based Learning. In this study, the subjects used were 21 twelfth graders. This study uses observation and interviews in data collection and research instruments. This study conducted observations for two meetings and conducted interviews with four students. Data were analyzed using thematic analysis. The result of this research is that the teacher implements Problem Based Learning in accordance with the existing stages. Another result is that students have a positive response to the implementation of Problem Based Learning, including Problem Based Learning (PBL) makes students feel comfortable, not bored, and having difficulties, Problem Based Learning (PBL) makes students more active, Problem Based Learning helps in developing students' thinking skills, and Problem Based Learning (PBL) helps students to write procedure text. Problem Based Learning model can be implemented in teaching writing procedure text. Problem-Based Learning as a learning model, able to motivate students to contribute to the learning process in class and able to invite students' interest in writing.
