Abstract

Abstract East Java Province is an area endemic diphtheria from 2000 to-2012., Every year is always an increase in cases (KLB), despite a high rate of immunization coverage.  Common cases in both children who have been immunized or not immunized  with mortality rate is quite high. The purpose of this study was to assess the knowledge and attitude of management personnel in managing vaccine vaccines in the health service in the area of East Java. The method used is a design study using cross-sectional design, which was done in the study in six districts / cities in East Java, with a long 11-month study period is the month of January to November 2011. The dependent variable is the quality of the vaccine used and the independent variable is how the Human Resources (HR) managers vaccines and vaccine observed score management. The results found that the training of administer vaccines officer was affecting  the accuracy in vaccine management in the health service. Keywords: management, vaccines, diphtheria.

Abstract

Cystine tellurite blood agar (CTBA) medium is a selective medium for Corynebacterium diphtheriae culture. The presence of tellurite is a selectivity of this medium to inhibit the others bacteria. Others medium were used as a selective medium for the culture of Corynebacterium diphtheriae were tinsdale and Hoyle medium, but was recommended by the World Health Organization (WHO) were CTBA and hoyle medium. However, information about the selectivity of medium was recommended by WHO is still limited. The aims of study to determine the selectivity of medium against a number of others species bacteria on CTBA. A number of 24 isolates contains of different species Corynebacterium spp and others species were regrown, then all isolates were cultured in CTBA medium, incubated for 24 – 48 haours at 37°C. The growthing of colony in CTBA were observed. The results showed that 7 isolates for Corynebacterium species can grow well on medium CTBA, 5 isolates from different species showed growth in CTBA medium including Staphylococcus aureus, Streptococcus pneumoniae, Enterobacter sakazakii , Klebsiella pneumoniae and Candida albicans. Meanwhile the rest 12 isolates showed no growthing on CTBA medium. Therefore it can be concluded that the selectivity of the CTBA medium has limited capabilities

Abstract

Infant formula is the nutrient source for some babies who were not breastfed. Risk factors for infection in infants less than 6 months old who consume formula are greater than those who were breastfed. This is due to the baby's immune system is not well formed. Therefore, it is important to supervise formula safety more strict than adult’s food. Total plate count (TPC) is one of the factors considered in the infant formula. The aim of this study is to define safety of infant formula based on total plate count within infant formula distributed in Indonesia in 2011. The study was a cross sectional study. The samples were representative of infant formula distributed in 23 province. Total plate count method and interpretation were conducted based on ISO/TS 22964. The TPC of each samples were examined three times. The TPC of all infant formulas were below of SNI breakpoint, which is less than 104cfu/gram. TPC ranged from

Abstract

The growing AMR issue affects the current antimicrobial therapy recommendations, particularly for broad-spectrum antibiotics, like third-generation cephalosporins (3GC) and fluoroquinolones (FQ). Actually, the inappropriate use of both antibiotics in clinical and community settings increase the resistance of extended-spectrum beta-lactamase-producing Escherichia coli (ESBL-Ec). Although ESBL-Ec is used as a surveillance indicator of bacterial resistance, but currently studies related to 3GC-FQ co-resistance among clinical and community (including human and wastewater samples) based ESBL-Ec isolation, have not been widely carried out. The objective of this study was to analyze the possibility and mechanism of 3GC-FQ co-resistance among ESBL-Ec, in human clinical and communal isolates from previous published research. Out of 257 articles screened, four studies in accordance with our study are included in the analysis. The result indicated that ESBL-Ec derived from all sample sources had 3GC-FQ co-resistance. According to two studies reviewed, blaCTX-M was the most predominant ESBL gene, while the FQ-associated resistant gene dominated by qnr family genes. Resistant genes and co-resistant ESBL-Ec can be spread rapidly through plasmids.
