In addition, they meet in an open and lively exchange with other students from all over the world. Over 10,000 young people from PASCH partner schools in over 120 countries have completed German courses for children and young people as well as German exams. During the course, they not only learn German, but are also familiarized with everyday life in Germany. In addition, they also do other joint activities, such as trips/excursions, sports, etc. The present work deals with the emotions Indonesian students experience during the PASCH youth course and in which situations or events these emotions arise. Abstract

Since 2008, the Goethe-Institut has organized PASCH-Jugendkurs for students from partner schools around the world through the initiative of “Schools: Partners of the Future” (PASCH). One of the main objectives of PASCH-Jugendkurs is to improve students' language skills. During the three-week youth course, scholarship holders have the interesting experience of learning German in the international learning community. They learn with many friends from many different cultures and countries. This gives participants the opportunity to be friends of the same age and to exchange ideas with other participants from different countries. Most of PASCH-Jugendkurs participants from Indonesia made significant progress after participating in PASCH-Jugendkurs. 77.73% of all participants showed an improvement in their German language skills. When interacting with participants from various countries, they sometimes encounter obstacles especially in communication. Language barriers, cultural differences, differences of temperament and character and age differences are the reasons given by the participants and the inhibiting factors they face when communicating with friends from different cultural and language backgrounds. However, the positive impressions they receive in the PASCH-Jugendkurs will definitely bring them back to their home country.

Abstract

Writing skills in a foreign language such as German are the most complicated skills compared to other language skills. When someone writes, they must pay attention to various aspects, namely: orthography, grammar, semantics, stylistics, pragmatic communication, and text patterns (Grimm et al., 2006: 23). According to previous studies, German teachers still have difficulties in teaching writing skill in senior high schools. In this article, we will describe creative writing training for German language learning in high school. The training participants were German teachers who are members of the Association of Indonesian German Language Teachers (Ikatan Guru Bahasa Jerman Indonesia/IGBJI) of Malang, East Java, with a total of 24 participants. The result of the training shows that German teachers in Malang got various interesting ideas for practicing writing skill in learning German. These ideas are Du hast nur 3 Wörter (You only have 3 words), Vergiss die Verben (forget the verbs), Der Superlativ (The superlative), Was wäre wenn… (What if), and Führe einen Blinden (Write for a blind person). The participants thought that they could apply these writing ideas in their learning activities in their classes.

Abstract

The increasing demand for Indonesian workers with professional competence and high competitiveness in the international job market, particularly in Germany, requires individuals to be well-prepared in drafting application documents that meet global standards. Pratiwi & Mutmainah (2021) emphasize that career readiness is not only focused on individual aspects but also has a broader social impact by empowering communities to access better job opportunities. However, there remains a gap in understanding how to create an effective Curriculum Vitae (CV), especially in the context of German recruitment requirements, which demand a specific structure and format. In response to these challenges, the CV Masterclass workshop was designed to train participants in drafting and improving their CVs to make them more attractive, professional, and aligned with German standards. This activity aimed to help participants understand the key components of an effective CV, provide practical skills in writing and designing CVs, and boost their confidence in job applications. The methods used included direct training sessions, mentoring by two lecturers from the German Language Education undergraduate program at Universitas Negeri Malang (UM), and the distribution of questionnaires to measure the effectiveness of the activity. The workshop was held on May 20, 2024, at the Self Access Centre German Corner, Universitas Negeri Malang (UM), with 14 participants. The results showed that participants successfully created more competitive CVs relevant to the demands of the German job market. Additionally, they reported increased confidence in the job application process. This workshop also had a broader social impact by providing better access for Indonesian workers to secure jobs in the formal sector and participate in specialized programs in Germany, such as Ausbildung, Au-Pair, and professional employment in various fields. Through a follow-up mechanism, participants uploaded their CVs to Google Drive for review by facilitators, receiving valuable feedback to improve the quality of their CVs. The long-term impact of this activity not only enhances individual readiness to compete globally but also contributes to community empowerment. As more Indonesian workers possess high-quality CVs that meet international standards, their chances of securing employment in Germany increase significantly. Moreover, this training is expected to become part of a sustainable community service initiative, supporting broader economic and social growth.

Abstract

This research aims to find out the various positive and negative emotions experienced by students, and the factors that cause these emotions to appear in the context of learning. The method used in this research is descriptive qualitative, with data collection techniques using a questionnaire adapted from the Achievement Emotions Questionnaire (AEQ) and interviews. The results of this study show that most students tend to feel positive emotions when learning in class and receiving grades/results. Meanwhile, they dominantly feel negative emotions when facing exams. The focus of this study is on students taking Sprachkompetenz Deutsch II, which has not received much attention in previous studies. However, this study has not explored academic experiences in other courses, which may give rise to different emotional dynamics. The findings of this study contribute to understanding the role of students' emotions in Sprachkompetenz Deutsch II and can serve as a reference for teachers to design teaching methods that are more sensitive to students' emotions.
