Abstract

Penelitian ini mengungkapkan sejarah pemerintahan daerah Provinsi Riau. Batasan awal penelitian ini dimulai dari tahun 1957, karena pada tahun tersebut keluar Undang-Undang mengenai pembentukan Daerah Tingkat I. Keluarnya Undang-Undang ini dengan demikian Riau resmi keluar dari Sumatera Tengah, dan berdiri sebagai sebuah Provinsi. Batas akhir penelitian tahun 1985, ditandai dengan timbulnya sebuah peristiwa yang merupakan gerakan perlawanan terhadap hegemoni pemerintahan pusat yang berlangsung pada saat Orde Baru dan ABRI (TNI) Tengah berjaya. Penelitian ini termasuk dalam penelitian kualitatif dengan menggunakan metode sejarah yang dibagi dalam empat tahap yaitu heuristik, kritik sumber interpretasi, dan penulisan sehingga berbentuk tulisan sejarah yang bersifat ilmiah deskritif dan analisis. Hasil penelitian menunjukan bahwa keadaan Riau pascakeluar dari Sumatera Tengah sama saja ketika berada di bawah kekuasaan pemerintahan Sumatera Tengah. Hanya terjadi peralihan kekuasaan dari Pemerintahan Sumatera Tengah ke tangan pemerintahan pusat yang sentralistik. Tuntutan masyarakat Riau masa tahun 1950-an untuk dipimpin oleh putera daerahnya juga tidak terwujud setelah Riau berdiri menjadi provinsi sendiri. Pemerintahan pusat sangat berperan dalam pengambilan keputusan atas pengangkatan Gubernur Riau. Gubernur Riau yang menjabat didominasi oleh orang di luar Riau (bukan putra daerah) dan juga sebagian besar berasal dari militer.

Abstract

Doenia Baroe Magazine (1930) is a press media of Peranakan Chinese that contains a lot of literature from various genre. The purpose of this study is to explain themes, forms and orientation of Peranakan Chinese’s literature, so that might explain author’s idea of literary works.Literature from Doenia Baroe Magazine has become the overview of history of literature that written by Peranakan Chinese that use historical methodology. Chinese literature in Doenia Baroe Magazine are influenced by the identity tendency as Chinese people which brings out rendering literary works. Literature from Doenia Baroe Magazine are adaptive to the modernity of colonial environment without needed to remove their ancestral heritage. Literary works in Doenia Baru Magazine has various genres such as short story, feuilleton and poem that implicitly show the author’s new world. Peranakan Chinese’s literature has not just become the social reflection but also implies political identity of the era.The result of this study, the beginning of chinese’s literature is relevant with mentality of the era that affects the author’s idea.

Abstract

This article aims to know some problems of children of Purus, a coastal area in Padang city, especially related to factors leading to literary poor imagination of ‘Kelompok Purus Menulis’ members. The experience in manage of children Purus could became guidelines to develop the future of Mentawai's children.  They have attended training and mentoring programs in three years organized by Universitas Negeri Padang. But their quality product likes poem is still poor. They tend to imitate others’ works. Few are confident and stand out of box. Why? Data for this article are based on district document, and interview during the training and mentoring activities. After collecting the data, the analysis and written report for the result of research will follow. The analysis will show the poor imagination of Purus children. There are three reasons for that. First, the writer will have an extensive knowledge from reading, observing, and discussing with others. But Purus children rarely read and write. Second, family supporting. Some children of the community come from poor family background and lower level of education that hinder them from growing any better. Third, social environment. The children live in market and tourist area.  It makes the children less focus on study.

Abstract

Objek penelitian ini adalah Radio Jam Gadang FM, salah satu radio swasta di Bukittinggi. Radio ini lahir untuk mempertahankan dan memperkuat identitas Minang ketika gencarnya aliran globalisasi dan modernisasi yang banyak disiarkan media massa pada awal reformasi. Pengumpulan data menggunakan metode wawancara, dokumentasi, arsip dan observasi lapangan. Sumber dan informasi yang didapat dari studi pustaka dan wawancara dikritik lalu diinterprestasikan, kemudian dilakukan penulisan sejarahnya. Hasil penelitian ini mengungkapkan bahwa radio Jam Gadang telah menyuarakan identitas Minangkabau di kota Bukittinggi. Seluruh program-program yang disajikan pada radio Jam Gadang memiliki tujuan sebagai wadah untuk melestarikan kesenian Minangkabau di tengah masyarakat urban. Abstract

Penelitian ini menjelaskan bahwa munculnya majalah Berita Koerai tidak dapat dilepaskan dari berkembangnya pendidikan, ekonomi dan infrastruktur di Nagari Koerai. Majalah ini memiliki isi yang mengarah kepada hubungan masyarakat Koerai, kampung halaman, dan daerah rantau. Berita Koerai merupakan media penghubung bagi perantau dengan yang menetap di kampung untuk saling bertukar informasi sekaligus menjalin hubungan silaturahmi dan juga sarana komunikasi paling efektif dalam membangun hubungan antar-urang awak, misalnya, memberitakan alamat orang-orang darek di daerah rantau, berita sosial budaya, hiburan, dan agama. Kata kunci: Berita Koerai, darek, rantau, kolonial

Abstract

There are two problems faced by the actors of culture of periphery, both power of capitalisms tend to follow market and dominate the power of discourse in center of politics. Thus, the consequences of these problems are stagnation of artists’ creativity at periphery area. Although the actors at periphery express their ideas with some innovations, they are not touched or do not want to be touched. As far as the Indonesian history centralizes or refers to Jakarta, as a consequence, the actors of art-culture at periphery are eliminated. Therefore, the expression of periphery area (Sumatera) is filtered by central dominator of culture who has lived in center of the state. The Actors in periphery are defined, influenced but can not be influenced and do not have freedom in creating arts. The actors at periphery are forced to express the pressure of ideology and market that available in center of power. This paper is aimed at elaborating the condition of artists in Sumatera in the last two periods. How did they response to the centralistic and dominate power? What were changes of orientation and activity style of Sumatera artists community life?

Abstract

Penelitian ini membahas tentang ruang poligami dalam budaya Minangkabau dengan tinjauan historis. Penulisan ini akan menggunakan metode sejarah yaitu heuristik, kritik, interpretasi dan historiografi, serta menggunakan ilmu-ilmu sosial lainnya sebagai alatnya. Penelitian ini dilakukan dengan tujuan untuk melihat apakah dalam budaya Minangkabau dapat memberi peluang untuk poligami. Hasil penelitian ini mengungkapkan bahwa sistem sosial dan budaya Minangkabau telah memberi peluang untuk orang berpoligami serta pihak-pihak yang berpoligami. Hal ini disebabkan oleh dua faktor, pertama karena laki-laki dalam adat Minangkabau setelah menikah hanya berstatus sumando, di mana tidak boleh menetap lama-lama di rumah sang istri. Laki-laki yang berstatus sumando hanya untuk tujuan biologis/keturunan atau menghasilkan keturunan. Jadi tidak bisa menetap  lama-lama  di  rumah  sang istri. Faktor kedua yaitu karena kebutuhan ekonomi. Faktor kedua ini, biasanya untuk kedudukan laki-laki yang berstatus penghulu atau datuak. Hal ini untuk menaikkan prestise penghulu, di mana memiliki istri lebih dari satu menjadikan posisinya makin tinggi di dalam masyarakat.

Abstract

The Kampia craft, a traditional weaving of pandan leaves from Jorong Kuok III Koto, Nagari Matua Mudiak, faces sustainability threats due to modernization. This community service program aims to revitalize Kampia art by enhancing artisans' capacities, marketing innovations, and intergenerational education. The program was structured into three phases: preparation, implementation, and mentoring. The first phase included field surveys and the development of a roadmap. The second phase encompassed training in design innovation, product diversification, and branding and marketing strategies. The last phase ensured sustainability through ongoing monitoring and support. As a result, artisans had successfully created innovative products, and the Kampia community has emerged as a collaborative and marketing platform. Workshops and the Kampia Festival effectively showcased and sold 21 products developed from the training sessions. By adopting an integrative approach that combines cultural preservation and creative economy principles, Kampia has the potential to become a cultural icon and a premier local product.

Abstract

This research aims to examine the progression of Minangkabau women during the 20th century as reflected through modern education represented in the women's press. As historical research, this research uses the historical method, which includes heuristics, source criticism, interpretation, and historiography. The focus is on the progress and development of Minangkabau women as represented in Asjraq magazine, published in Padang, West Sumatra. Asjraq was one of the women’s magazines actively advocating for the advancement and empowerment of Minangkabau women. The exploration of women’s ideas consistently colored every issue of Asjraq, presenting concepts that contributed to redefining women’s roles in an evolving modern world. These ideas also provoked reactions from Minangkabau society. Elements and expressions of modernity found in Asjraq include education, participation in associations and mass media, as well as artistic expression.
