Abstract

One of the diseases that often found in sorghum plants is anthracnose disease caused by Colletotrichum sp. The purposed of this study was to determine the effect of adding micro fertilizer and the use of several sorghum genotypes on the intensity of anthracnose disease. The study was conducted in Sukanegara, Tanjung Bintang, South Lampung in April 2017 - February 2018 and at the Laboratory of Plant Diseases and Pests, Faculty of Agriculture, University of Lampung. The treatments were arranged using a randomized block design in a split plot design (3 times replications), the main plot was micro nutrients (with micro addition and without micro addition) and 15 subgroups of sorghum genotypes (Numbu, Samurai 1, GH3, UPCA, GH4, P / I WHP, GH6, Super 2, GH13, P / F 51-93-C, Super 1, GH5, Mandau, GH7, and Talaga Bodas). The results showed that the addition of "ZincMicro" micro fertilizers to sorghum plants did not affect the intensity of anthracnose disease, however there were differences in the intensity of anthracnose diseases between sorghum genotypes. Numbu Genotype, GH 3, and GH 13 were relatively more resistant to anthracnose disease than the other genotypes.

Abstract

Abstract

Rice productivity faces challenges due to soil degradation and nutrient deficiencies. This study aims to evaluate the effects of zinc (Zn) biofortification through foliar spray on growth, yield, potassium (K) uptake, and zinc (Zn) content in rice grains. The study also assesses the response of different rice varieties to zinc application and analyzes the interaction between zinc and varieties in enhancing productivity and zinc content, which could potentially support stunting prevention efforts. The research was conducted in the rice fields of Maja Village, Pesawaran Regency, Lampung, from July to October 2024, using a split plot design. Zinc treatments included seed priming and foliar spray at the vegetative and generative stages. The results showed that zinc application significantly increased plant height, productive tillers, flowering time, number of grains per panicle, percentage of filled and empty grains, 1,000-grain weight, as well as harvest dry grain (HDG) and dry unhusked rice (DUR). Treatment P4 (priming and zinc application at both vegetative and generative stages) showed the best response, with an average increase in zinc content in rice grains of 56% compared to the control. Nutri Zinc variety showed the highest potassium uptake and zinc content. The interaction between zinc and variety had a significant impact on 1,000-grain weight and HDG. This study highlights that zinc biofortification can improve rice production and increase zinc content in rice, supporting stunting prevention.

Abstract

Abstract:Food crop farmers in Sidodadi Village, Teluk Pandan District, Pesawaran Regency, Lampung Province, who are members of the Rejotani Farmers Group, have been actively cultivating rice for a long time. However, their seed needs were met by purchasing seeds from agricultural stores or using part of their own rice harvest. This was due to the farmers' lack of knowledge about the techniques for producing quality, certified rice seeds. This extension program aimed to explain the techniques for producing quality, certified rice seeds to provide farmers with this knowledge and motivate them to produce quality, certified rice seeds in the future. The extension program was held at the Village Hall of Sidodadi Village, Teluk Pandan District, Pesawaran Regency, Lampung Province, on October 1, 2025, using lecture and discussion methods. The extension results showed that a) farmers strongly recognized the importance of quality, certified rice seeds, and b) farmers who were initially unaware (70%) and curious (30%) about the techniques for producing quality, certified rice seeds became all farmers (100%) who wanted to produce quality rice seeds themselves.
