Abstract

Background : Suitability test for light collimation are tests to ensure that x-ray aircraft meet radiation safety requirements and provide precise and accurate diagnostic or diagnostic information. Suitability test for light collimation is carried out on x-ray aircraft at Al-Islam Bandung Politeknik. Methods: The research method used in quantitative experimental method. The suitability test was carried out with a collimator test tool and beam alignment test tool placed on the tape then performed an experiment using an exposure factor of 75 Kv, 200 mA and 8 mAs with FFD 100 cm.Results: Based on the tests that have been carried out, it is known that there is a discrepancy in the width of the collimation beam. The large discrepancy between the light field area and the radiation field area, that is, the edge X₁ 0.3 cm, the edge X₂ 0.5 cm, the edge Y₁ 0.5 cm, the edge Y₂ 0.1 cm. So the value of ∆X is 0.8% FFD, the value of ∆Y is 0.6% FFD, and the value of ∆X + ∆Y is 1.4% FFD. While the deviation of the central point is less or right than 3⁰. These results indicate that the discrepancy in the width of the light beam collimation and center point deviations is still within the tolerance limits. Conclusions: There is a discrepancy between the X-ray light field and the collimated light field, but it is still within the limit of the test value to the passing value of the predefined test.

Abstract

Cancer is a non-communicable disease that is still a health problem in the world, including Indonesia. About 50 percent of cancer treatments worldwide are performed using radiotherapy. In its implementation, radiotherapy includes several stages, one of which is treatment planning. This study aims to assess the difference in dose received by PTV and OARs in planning using IMRT and 3DCRT techniques in cervical cancer patients. The method used in this study is scanning using a CT simulator, delineating PTV and healthy organs around the tumor (OARs), and planning using treatment planning system software. The results showed that in OARs, 3DCRT planning resulted in a dose of 4000 cGy by hitting 58.28% of the buli volume, and a dose of 5000cGy by hitting 17.76% of the rectum volume. While planning IMRT, a dose of 4000cGy hits 31.50% of the buli volume, and a dose of 5000cGy hits 12.29% of the rectum volume. In PTV, the doses produced by 3DCRT and IMRT planning were 4750cGy and 4750 cGy, and hit 95.18% and 98.71% of PTV volume, respectively. This study concludes that planning using IMRT is better than planning using 3DCRT in cases of cervical cancer. This is shown by the dose that covers the target tumor (PTV) and a significant dose reduction in OARs.

Abstract

X-ray radiation in the medical field offers substantial diagnostic benefits but also poses potential risks to both patients and medical personnel. This study aims to evaluate the effectiveness of bioplastic made from cassava starch and lead acetate as a radiation dose absorber in femur radiographic examinations. The examinations were conducted using Anteroposterior (AP) and Lateral projections with portrait and diagonal detector positions. Image processing utilized the Gaussian High Pass Filter (GHPF) method with cut-off frequencies of 5, 10, and 15 Hz. Image analysis was performed using Contrast to Noise Ratio (CNR) and Peak Signal to Noise Ratio (PSNR). The results indicated that the use of bioplastic reduced CNR and PSNR values compared to examinations without bioplastic, although the image quality remained within acceptable clinical limits. For instance, in the AP diagonal projection with a 5 Hz cut-off, the CNR value for the proximal femur was 22.86 (with bioplastic) versus 21.95 (without bioplastic), while the corresponding PSNR values were 11.1 and 11.6, respectively. Additionally, radiation dose attenuation was supported by increased Mean Squared Error (MSE) values, indicating effective shielding by the bioplastic. Cut-off frequencies of 5 and 10 yielded the best image quality in both conditions.

Abstract

X-ray radiation plays a vital role in medical diagnostics but carries potential risks for both patients and healthcare workers. This study evaluates the effectiveness of cassava starch–based bioplastic combined with lead acetate as an absorber of radiation dose during femur radiographic examinations. The tests were performed using Anteroposterior (AP) and Lateral projections with both portrait and diagonal detector positions. Image processing applied the Gaussian High Pass Filter (GHPF) method at cut-off frequencies of 5, 10, and 15 Hz. Image quality was analyzed through Contrast to Noise Ratio (CNR) and Peak Signal to Noise Ratio (PSNR). Results showed that the use of bioplastic slightly decreased CNR and PSNR values compared to examinations without bioplastic; however, the quality remained within acceptable diagnostic standards. For example, in AP diagonal projection at 5 Hz, CNR reached 22.86 (with bioplastic) versus 21.95 (without), while PSNR values were 11.1 and 11.6, respectively. Increased Mean Square Error (MSE) values confirmed radiation attenuation, supporting effective shielding. Optimal image quality occurred at 5–10 Hz cut-offs, while 15 Hz produced misleading impressions of osteoporosis. Overall, lead-based bioplastic effectively reduces radiation dose while preserving diagnostic value, offering a safer and eco-friendly alternative in radiographic imaging.
