Abstract

Background. Good health services will greatly affect health improvement and treatment. One of the health service facilities is the mosque health service. The number of visits to mosque health services from 2016- 2018 decreased by 49.1%. Purpose. This study aims to determine the factors that influence the worshipers of the mosque in the utilization of mosque health services in Surabaya Ittihad mosque. Method. This study design used descriptive method with cross sectional research design. Population and samples were the entire worshipers of the Ittihad mosque. The number of samples 123 respondents with sampling techniques conducted by means of purposive sampling. Data was collected by interview using a questionnaire. Data analysis used Chi Square test. Results. This study shows that the sex of mosque worshipers (p = 0,604), age (p = 0,617), education (p = 0,690), occupation (p = 0,243), knowledge about mosque health services (p = 0,999), mosque health service Tariff (p = 0.645), and access to information (p = <0.001). Conclusion. It can be concluded that the factors that influence the utilization of mosque health services are access to information provided by the mosque and mosque health services.

Abstract

Background: There has been a universal rising in knowledge and awareness regarding the bio-medical waste management and the hazards related to it. Purpose: aims to determine and asses the knowledge as well as the awareness towards the management of bio-medical waste among senior undergraduate and specialist dental students in the Faculty of Dental Medicine, Universitas Airlangga, Surabaya - Indonesia. Materials and Method: The study was carried out by using a close-ended survey. The Population of the study consisted of 743 students. However, the taken sample was based on Lemeshow method that includes 130 senior undergraduate and 62 specialist students making a total of 192 participants. Statistical analysis was performed via descriptive statistical analysis and chi-square test. Results: This survey was shown that around 192 questionnaires were distributed of which (86%) returned and analyzed. It was seen that (58.7%) of senior undergraduate students and (87.1%) of specialist students, were having average knowledge of bio-medical waste management system in dental clinics. According to the Chi-square test analysis, it was seen there is a statistically significant P-value (p?0.05). Conclusion: Within the limitation of this study, we affirmed that there is a good level of knowledge and awareness of bio-medical waste management. In this present study, highly needed for continuing education and training programs to be conducted in dental teaching curricula in the Faculty of Dental Medicine

Abstract

Background: Almost all faculties of dentistry have implemented Evidence Based Dentistry (EBD) curriculumto improve students ability to provide the best treatment for patients supported by the best research evidence,but there is still little data to show evaluations in their use. Objective: The aim of this study was to determinethe association between sex, knowledge, and education level of evidence-based dentistry behavior amongdentistry students. Method: The study was a cross sectional survey and has received ethical approval. Selfadministrated questionnaires distributed to second, third and fourth year students of the Faculty of DentalMedicine, Universitas Airlangga, Surabaya. Contingency Correlation analysis was performed to determinethe association between sex and behavior, Spearman’s correlation analysis was performed to determine theassociation between knowledge, education level and behavior. All data were analyzed with a significancelevel of 95%. Result: A total of respondents filled out and returned the questionnaire were 221. Eightyfive percent of respondents were females. Based on statistical analysis, there is association between sexand behavior of the implementation of EBD with 0,000 significance value, there is association betweenthe knowledge and behavior of the implementation of EBD with 0.008 significance value, and there is noassociation between the level of education and behavior of the implementation of EBD with a significancevalue of 0.458. Conclusion: There is association between sex and with behavior, but there is no associationbetween the level of education of dentistry students with evidence-based dentistry behavior.

Abstract

Background: One of the preventive efforts that can be performed to avoid dental and oral health problemsis by maintaining oral hygiene. Currently, there are various tools for maintaining dental and oral hygienethat are sold in the market. Purpose: To reveal the knowledge, attitude, action, Ability to Pay (ATP), andWillingness to Pay (WTP) of young adults in fulfilling the need for maintenance of oral hygiene. Methods:This research was a descriptive research type. The sample size was determined as 100 people, targeting thegroup of young adults aged 20-29 years who have worked or earn. A cross tabulation test was conductedbetween the ATP and WTP variables with demographic characteristics, namely age and work experience.Results: Based on the age frequency of ATP sufferers, those aged 20-29 years are able to meet the needs oforal hygiene at most at a cost of Rp. 51,000- Rp. 100,000, and the age frequency with the most WTP at a costof Rp. 141,000 - Rp. 160,000.Based on the length of time working with the ATP, most of the oral hygieneneeds are Rp. 51,000-Rp. 100,000. Meanwhile, the frequency of working with WTP is the maximum cost ofRp. 141,000 - Rp. 160,000. Conclusion: According to the research results, it can be concluded that the levelof knowledge, attitude, and action of young adults in fulfilling the needs for maintenance of oral hygiene isgood.

Abstract

Background: Oral health problems, including periodontal tissue problems, are important issues that need attention because they can affect a person’s quality of life and performance. The prevalence of the periodontal disease in all age groups in Indonesia is 96.58%. Purpose: This study aims to determine the effect of periodontal disease on adolescent physical performance. Method: This research was conducted in an analytic observational manner. The population of this research is adolescents aged 12-14 years in junior high schools in Surabaya, East Java, Indonesia as many as 101 students. Data collection used the Modified Gingival Index (MGI) method and the International Physical Activity Questionnaire (IPAQ). The data analysis used was the ETA correlation test. Result: In the distribution of dental health knowledge, most of the respondents had a low level of knowledge of 88.1%, low physical activity of 44.6%, and good gingival health based on the Modified Gingival Index of 52.5%. Conclusion: There is a significant difference in the level of respondents’ Modified Gingival Index based on the respondent’s experience of getting dental and oral care and the last time he received dental and oral care.

Abstract

Latar belakang: Masalah media yang digunakan pasien dalam mencari informasi di fasilitas pelayanan kesehatan. Tujuan: Artikel ini bertujuan untuk mengetahui bagaimana perilaku pasien dalam mencari informasi tentang fasilitas pelayanan kesehatan di RSGM X. Metode: Pengumpulan data dilakukan melalui survei dengan menggunakan total sampling. Hasil: Mayoritas pasien mencari informasi terlebih dahulu mengenai fasilitas pelayanan kesehatan gigi dan mulut yang akan dikunjunginya. Simpulan: Penelitian ini menyimpulkan bahwa dalam pencarian informasi pelayanan kesehatan pasien menggunakan media pencarian Google dilanjutkan dengan pencarian informasi melalui media sosial yaitu instagram.

Abstract

Background: Previous research involving 100 children in the East Surabaya area reported a caries prevalence data of 89.5% with a Decayed, Missing due to carries, Filled Teeth index (DMFT) value of 5.42 (high category). In January–June 2018, only 373 out of 4,072 school-age children visited the Keputih Public Health Center. The dental visits were motivated out of dental health problems only. Parents, especially mother, should pay attention to their child's dental and oral health because they are in the primary tooth period, which will significantly affect the growth of their permanent teeth. Purpose: The illustration book in Surabayan dialect was the means to disseminate information on dental and oral health for children and parents, particularly mothers, to motivate regular dental visit and prevent dental caries. Methods: The parents received the illustrated book, and they were given some time to read and answer the questions. After that, the mothers were asked to assist their children in filling out the illustration book. The targets were improved understanding on the subject matter, which is dental and oral health, and to motivate the parents and children to have regular dental visit. Results: There was > 75% increase in understanding of the subject matter before and after the intervention. Conclusion: The intervention successfully improved the parents' understandings in the subject matter, and it was expected to motivate parents and their children to have regular dental visits in Keputih Public Health Center.
