Abstract

Pesticide use amongst farmers remains high in Bali. Pesticide use causes acute- to chronic- health effects. This study focusses on assessing the use of protective gear amongst farmers using pesticides and measuring their hemoglobin level. This was a cross-sectional study in 71 male farmers in the village of Riang Gede, Penebel, Tabanan, Bali. Data was collected by interview and blood test. Analysis was performed using SPSS 18.0.Mean age of farmers was 51,2 years and mean body mass index (BMI) was 21,5 kg/m2. Most of the farmershad an education level of primary school. Use of full protective gear was low for mask, boot, eye-protection, and gloves. Hemoglobin level was abnormal in 49,3% of farmers with a mean hemoglobin level of 12,2 g/dl which was lower than that of the normal population. This study showedthat the use of appropriate protective gear is low and that pesticide use might contribute to the lowering of hemoglobin level.

Abstract

An energy audit is needed to find out energy saving opportunities (PHE) so that it will reduce the amount of electricity bills at the Denpasar Art Center which is used as a cultural performance center in Bali. A more specific location in this research is the Ksirarnawa Art Center Denpasar Building in the lighting section. The energy audit in this study is combined with an IoT-based electrical energy monitoring tool so that electricity usage can be monitored in real time. This IoT-based electrical energy monitoring uses Arduino Nano as a data processor as well as sending data to a site service called Thingspeak to record and display data from sensors. The sensors used are the ZMPT101B voltage sensor and the YHDC SCT 013-000 current sensor which are integrated with the NodeMCU as a module to connect to a wireless network. The results of the energy audit at the Denpasar Art Center got a potential Energy Saving Opportunity (PHE) of 33.6% with suggestions to related parties being to replace lamps using LEDs and to regularly set on/off times.

Abstract

Indonesia as a maritime country has great potential in utilizing seawater as a renewable energy source, one of which is through seawater battery technology. This study designed and built a battery with seawater-based electrolyte from Kedonganan Beach and Cu-Zn (copper-zinc) electrode pairs for lighting needs. The battery was assembled in a 50×12×8 cm acrylic container, consisting of 20 cells connected in series to produce a total voltage of ±12 V, with each cell having a voltage of 0.8 V. Each cell contains five pairs of 6×5 cm electrodes spaced 4 mm apart and separated by paper as a separator. The test results showed a no-load voltage of 16.23 V and a voltage with a 5 watt load of 7.7 V with a current of 0.0018 A. At a 10 watt load, a voltage of 7.75 V and a current of 0.0023 A were achieved. The battery capacity reached 34.56 mAh during the 12-hour test. The depth of discharge (DoD) was recorded at 70.56%.
