Abstract

Objective: Of this study was to determine the effect of color differences in elastomeric ligatures on the adhesion of streptococcus mutans in salivary fluidMaterial and Methods: Type of research used was laboratory experimental with cross sectional study, using elastomeric ligatures 10 pieces of orthodontic elastomeric ligatures dark clear fruits. The samples were then divided into 2 groups. Each group of samples was each immersed in 100 cc of artificial saliva pH 4 which had been given each cc of streptococcus mutans and cultured in the media to see the number of colonies attached to elastomeric ligatures. The results of calculating the number of colonies were then analyzed using the SPSS version 24 program and using the Independent t test with a significant value of 0.05.Results: The results showed that there are significant differences between the ligatures elastomeric orthodontic dark and elastomeric ligatures clear. Conclusion: Elastomeric ligatures darker color have more adhesion to streptococcus mutans when compared to adhesion streptococcus mutans to elastomeric ligatures clear.

Abstract

Objective: To knows comparison of the level of knowledge of parents of bad habits and the severity of malocclusion children at school with a different social level, namely Elementary School of Kera-Kera Settlement (SD Inpres Kera-Kera) and Al-Biruni Intgrated Islamic Elementary School of Makassar City (SDIT Al-Biruni Makassar). Material and Methods: The sampling method used is purposive sampling. Measurement of the level of parental knowledge using a questionnaire, the severity of children's malocclusion using the Occlusion Feature Index (OFI) method. Results: In the SD Inpres Kera-Kera, the level of knowledge of parents with Low criteria of 63.6%, the severity of malocclusion of children with a very mild OFI score of 2.3%, mild criteria of 34.1%, medium criteria 59, 1%, and the weight criteria are 4.5%. SDIT Al-Biruni assessment of the level of knowledge of good parents as much as 81.4%, the severity of malocclusion with an OFI score of very mild criteria as much as 5.1%, mild criteria as much as 49.2%, medium criteria 42.4%, and severe criteria as much as 3 4%. Conclusion: There is a difference in the knowledge of parents of SD Inpres Kera-Kera and SDIT Al-Biruni parents. Parent’s knowledge of bad habits and malocclusion at SDIT Al-Biruni Makassar is far better than that of SD Inpres Kera-Kera

Abstract

Background: Malocclusion is one of the important issues in the field of dental health, especially in Indonesia. The results of Riskesdas 2013 in South Sulawesi showed number of dental-mouth problems in the age group of 10-14 years was 36.9% and 15-24 years was 37.4%, with the population having abnormal dental function as much as 3.26%, and 60% received orthodontic treatment, especially in Barru District about 40%. This situation is the base of researchers to conduct research on the relationship between orthodontic treatment needs and the quality of life of high school students in Barru District. Objective: To find out the relationship between orthodontic treatment needs and quality of life in adolescent high school students in Barru District. Method : An observation alanalytic study with across-sectional design using subjects was high school students in Barru District aged 15-17 years with the sampling technique was purposive random sampling of 200 students. An examination of the need for orthodontic treatment was carried out using an IOTN index and an assessment of quality of life using the OHIP-14 index. Results: This study shows that the level of orthodontic treatment need has a significant relationship based on the Spearman IOTN-DHC correlation analysis (p<0.05), while the IOTN-AC shows no significant relationship between care needs and quality of life (p>0.005). Conclusion: The need for orthodontic treatment has a significant relationship with adolescent quality of life in a positive correlation (r=0.490) which means that the higher the value of IOTN-DHC, the higher the person's discomfort.

Abstract

Anchorage control is one of the most important-key to obtain successful in clinical orthodontic. Mini-implant orthodontic as known as miniscrew or temporary anchorage devices (TAD) created absolute anchorage. Miniscrew anchorage has greatly ex-panded the limit of clinical orthodontics. Even without patient compliance, miniscrews can provide stationary anchorages for various tooth movements and even make it possible to move the tooth in directions which have been impossible with tradition-al orthodontic mechanics. Orthodontic miniscrew have high mechanical retention with some advantage include adequate anchor-age against uncooperative patient, minimal surgical invasive, allow insertion and removal procedure and no expansion effect re-latively. Application of miniscrew in orthodontic treatment need much attention for some aspects like type and part of mini-screw, indication and contraindication, clinical procedure include insertion and removal of miniscrew moreover unpredict-able complication. Miniscrew is one type of TAD that widely used in orthodontic treatment in providing absolute anchorage

Abstract

Orthodontic relapse can be defined as the tendency of teeth to return to their original position after tooth movement, this is an undesirable outcome of orthodontic treatment. The relapse rate after orthodontic treatment is about 70-90%. In general, ortho-dontic relapse prevention is attempted mechanically by using retainers. Prevention of orthodontic relapse can also be done pharmacologically with medications such as bisphosphonates, although bisphosphonates cause unwanted effects in patients. One of the natural ingredients that can be a solution to this problem is golden sea cucumber (Stichopus hermanii). This review discusses the role of golden sea cucumber in preventing orthodontic relapse in a systematic review. Articles were searched through Pub Med and Google Scholar databases which were then analysed and the result was that golden sea cucumber plays a role in preventing orthodontic relapse by increasing osteogenesis and periodontal ligament remodelling. It is concluded that Stichopus hermanii can be an option to prevent orthodontic relapse because it increases osteogenesis and periodontal liga-ment remodelling through its ingredients such as flavonoids, heparan sulfate, chondroitin sulfate, collagen, and hyaluronic acid.

Abstract

Patients with cleft lip and palate have complex disorders and require long-term care. The treatment of CLP requires orthodontic and surgical treatment as well as an interdisciplinary approach to provide them with optimal aesthetics, function and stability for a better quality of life. This review discusses the stages and types of orthodontic treatment in patients with CLP. This article is for-mulated based on a collection of books and published literature. It is recognised that patients with CLP should ideally be treated under the supervision of a multidisciplinary team, starting at the pre/postnatal stage and continuing into adulthood when cranio-facial bone development is complete. It was concluded that the management of CLP care depends on the extent of the cleft de-fect. Patients may experience complex problems related to facial appearance, mastication, airway, hearing and speech. In CLP patients, the malocclusion is related to soft tissue, bone or dental defects, so the orthodontist's role in the timing and sequence of treatment in terms of multidisciplinary team management is essential.

Abstract

ABSTRACT Two-thirds of Indonesia's territory is mostly waters. The United Nations Convention on the Law of the Sea in 1982 stated that the area of Indonesian waters is 5.8 million km2 and there are 27.2% of all flora and fauna species. Algae is one of the most abundant biological resources in Indonesian waters, which is about 8.6%. In Indonesian waters, there are about 28 species of brown algae from six genera including Dyctyota, Padine, Hormophysa, Sargassum, Turbinaria andHydroclathrus. Brown al-gae have a large alginate content in their cell walls, approximately 40% of their dry weight. The alginate contained in brown al-gae canbe used in industrial fields, such as the dental impression material industry. The main active ingredients in the manufac-ture of irreversible hydrocolloid impression materials are sodium alginate, potassium alginate, and triethanolamine alginate. Sodium alginate and potassium alginate can be extracted from brown algae species such as Sargassum sp.
