Abstract

Batang Air Dingin Watershed is one of the watersheds in Padang City which is located at 00050’12,5” to 00050’22,5” South Latitude and 100023’35,85” to 100022’42,84” East Longitude has changed its function. Land in the area around the river flow results in greater surface runoff, which has the potential to cause erosion. Runoff that occurs in Batang Air Dingin Watershed area causes the river to shrink during the dry season causing the local residents’ wells to be drought, while in the rainy season the river discharge value used is obtained. Through the calculation of the hydrograps discharge using the HSS Nakayasu and HEC-HMS methods whose values are validated by the field flood discharge. Hydraulic modelling using HEC-RAS software with discharge from HSS Nakayasu method. The retention pond plan is based on the amount of runoff that cannot be accommodated by the original storage capacity of Batang Air Dingin Watershed during 100 year return period was 1212, 94 m3/second with large river storage capacity is 1205,317 m3/second. The debit that can be deducted by making a retention pond is 30,5%.

Abstract

River is a natural and man made watercourse in network of river flow and its water. The use of water in upper catchment will reduce the opportunity in using it downstream the catchment. Pollution in headwater would result in sosial cost in the downstream area. In turn if the society in the upper catchment preserve the river, the society downsteam the catchment will be benefit from it. Water is a natural resouces to fulfill life need of the society. Therefore, it needs to be preserved to benefit life of man as well other living matters. To preserve or attain water quality which can be used sustainably by the society with acceptable water quality level, there needs to preserve and control water by with preservation and mitigation of river pollution.

Abstract

Batang Agam River is a river that flows along Bukittinggi City, Agam Regency, Fifty Cities Regency, Tanah Datar Regency, Payakumbuh City and empties into the Batang Sinamar River. The Batang Agam River, which crosses the residential area, is mostly used for agriculture, fisheries, tourism, mining and other activities. Community activities in the area of the Batang Agam River have resulted in a decrease in the function of the river which is characterized by narrowing, silting and pollution of the river. In addition, it is influenced by the ever-changing river water discharge, land conditions and changes that occur in the river channel. In addition, the negative behavior of the community and all their activities around the river basin also triggers damage to the river. This research was conducted to determine the value of land erosivity towards changes in land use area in the Batang Agam watershed, in this study using land cover in 2010, 2014, and 2019 using the Soil and Water Assessment Tool (SWAT) model and manual calculations were carried out using the USLE method as ratio. The analysis consists of four processes, namely watershed delineation, formation of a Hydrologic Response Unit (HRU), formation of climatological data, and finally the simulation process. The results of the HRU analysis showed that the Batang Agam watershed became 7 sub-watersheds, the dominant HRU was primary forest. In the case of Batang Agam, it was found that the level of erosion hazard was in the light category and the erosion value decreased in each review year.

Abstract

Sedimentation at estuary river have potency to cause floods because the narrowing of estuary as outlet. Sedimentation process can be caused by the so small river discharge at dry season so that cannot to flushing the sediment that happened at estuary mouth. When the rains arrive, river discharge which starting to big shall no long castaway to sea freely, so that causes floods in headwaters. Numerical simulation by using finite different method with Preissmann implicit scheme conducted to see ability of river discharge in early the rains to flushing the sediment in estuary mouth. Simulation was done at river with sediment elevation at + 4.00 m in estuary mouth. Boundary condition in the form of discharge hydrograph in early the rains at upstream boundary and also critical water surface elevation in sediment top and sea level at downstream boundary applied at model to see behavior of sediment transport and change of profile at bottom channel that happened. Simulation result show with 24 hours floods charge in early the rains, sediment volume of flushed equal to 20,52 %, with elevation reside at + 3,179 m. Sediment will fully under sea-water face after 9 days simulation. Change of upriver discharge and tidal elevation at downstream will influence to speed of stream that happened. By the end of simulation, the bottom profile of channel influenced of tide.

Abstract

Batang Kuranji is one of six rivers that flow in the city of Padang, and is the main source of water for residents of Padang City to meet the raw water which is then processed into clean water and the needs of Mt. Nago irrigation water. The increase in population causes the population to move to a higher area (green zone). Batang Kuranji watershed has experienced a reduction in the area of forest land due to changes in land use activities by the population movement. As a result, land that was not watertight at first became watertight, the mainstay discharge or expected discharge is always available, always increasing during the rainy season and decreasing during the dry season. This study was conducted to determine the extent of land use change in the Batang Kuranji watershed, also to determine the main discharge that occurred in 2009, 2011, and 2017 using the Soil and Water Assessment Tool (SWAT) model. The analysis consists of four processes, namely watershed delineation, formation of a Hydrologic Response Unit (HRU), formation of climatological data, and finally the simulation process. HRU analysis results obtained by Batang Kuranji watershed into 9 sub-watersheds, the dominant HRU is protection forest by 62%, soil type with depth (solum) level A and B, runoff coefficient of 0.3 and NS value obtained by 0.6. This shows that the SWAT model can predict the hydrological process in the upstream Batang Kuranji watershed. The most influential land use on surface runoff is land use for settlement.

Abstract

Muntei is one of the villages in South Siberut, Mentawai Island Regency. The Mentawai Island located in West Sumatera and are outside the territory of the island of Sumatera, including one of the outermost islands in this Province. Mentawai is one of the areas in West Sumatera that is frequently shaken by earthquake. So, the implementation of earthquake resistant building standars is an important factor that must be considered in efforts to reduce disaster risk, considering that West Sumatera is one of the areas with a high earthquake risk. The implementation of earthquake resistant building standards should have started during the planning process. As one of the outermost province Mentawai is also lagging behind in infrastructure development, so sustainable development needs to be carried out to make Mentawai come out of being behind compare to other district in the West Sumatera. The review design of the site foundation of the SDN 12 Muntei school building aims to ensure the carrying capacity of the foundation. To obtain maximum axial value of the building, modeling was carried out using the sap2000 application. From the modeling and data analysis can be concluded that the foundation does not meet the requirements and is unable to carry the maximum load of the building. The allowable capacity of foundation permit for the SDN 12 Muntei is 12.96 Tonenes, while the maximum load on the building is 34.57 tonnes. The result of this analysis show that the foundation is not good and must be repaired.

Abstract

Since early 2023, Mount Marapi has shown its activity, even until 2024 Mount Marapi has erupted 170 times. Until Monday morning, April 29, 2024, at 06.00 WIB, Mount Marapi remains on Alert status (Level III). This indicates that a lot of landslide material due to volcanic eruptions has accumulated around the peak and upper slopes, which at any time can cause rain-induced lava floods. Related to the activities of Mount Marapi, a map of hazard-prone areas has been issued, including rivers that originate from Mount Marapi which are susceptible to rain-induced lava floods. The research was carried out by identifying river network patterns, hydrological characteristics, river morphology, and land use changes. The river network was analyzed using the Digital Elevation Model (DEM) from ASTER GDEM with a resolution of 8 m. Field validation for the river network was carried out using GPS Mapping at the Xakapa location. The hydrological and hydraulic profiles of the watershed were modeled using HEC-geoHMS and HEC-geoRAS to map the relationship between rainfall intensity, river discharge, and water level elevation along the river. From the modeling results, it can be seen that the rainfall intensity that has the potential to cause flooding is 142 mm/hour, using HEC-GeoHMS with a discharge of 1818 m3/second with a rainfall time of 6 hours causing a flood height of 0.81 m at an elevation of 379.9 with a wet cross-sectional area of 471 m2 in Xakapa.
